well I finished watching the show some time ago.

I thought the ninth season was by far the worst and the good episodes were few and far between. there was probably only 2 or 3. (if that)

the final episode wasn't the best either. which was disappointing. I guess they didn't go for the spectacular ending, or the resolution, which is fine but it still probably could've been done a little better.

anyone else agree that the ninth season was the worst?

I didn't have any problem with the actors/characters in it but most of the episodes were more unrealistic/stupid than usual and not written nearly as well as the others. they were more a case of getting through the ninth season and finishing the show off.

great series though. the cast were all great. no one I didn't enjoy watching.

LOL it was a great show (although it kinda lost a bit of it's edge when Duchovney left) ..
Cigarette Smoking Man was my fave, just so damn creepy and manipulative, but also deep down a coward, a great, well-written character.

BTW anyone got the spin-off series (only one season) of the Lone Gunmen ?
That was also a pretty good show, esp for fans of the lone gunmen ..
Melvin Frohike would have to be my fave of the lot, just seems the most pompous out of them all !!! :D

Yeah loved The Lone Gunmen! Too bad it flopped..

The X-Files is in my top 3 all time shows probably just below Star Trek.

And I agree it lost a lot when Duchovny left..still a good show but nowhere near it's peak.

Re the cancer man..i saw a doco on UFOs and govt conspiracies recently and he was the host..how apt:)

Great show; well written, acted and directed with very few exceptions. Should've finished just a bit earlier than it did though (not missing out Season 7 though, that had some good episodes).

I loved the 'funny' episodes like Bad Blood and X-Cops, good stuff.

a real blast from the past!

after i watched six feet under i couldnt really care for this show too much any more!

one of the underrated things they did really well on this show was getting a really great camera shot of gillian anderson. she was a hugely popular tv star back in her day - and shes not anything special or anything: she was short, and her pallid complexion would make her group in well as a goth in today's "cool culture". and she isnt the prettiest girl you would ever see, but much like how they used kim raver when raver was on 24 - she was one of those actresses that wasnt too young, but not too old kind of actress, she had enough interesting features on her face that showed up well on camera for the tv show makers to make a camera shot deemed a worthy rewatching of a tv episode, just to see that certain camera shot again.

mind you, Homer Simpson was onto something in that episode of the simpsons they were on, where he said that if he wasnt married he'd be onto agent scully like *bang* (THAT!)

I own all 9 seasons on DVD. Greatest show ever lolz.

Set a new standard for writing and production quality!

Right up there for me with Twin Peaks.

Favourite episodes are: "Unusual Suspects", "Triangle", "The field where I died", "Musings of a cigarette smoking man" and the "Sein und zeit"/"Closure" double.

"Triangle" is great, its the partially comic episode where Mulder gets trapped in a time warp on the Queen Anne and is composed of several Long Shots or uninterupted takes.

The quality peaked around season 5/6 though 7 was still great.

For me I'd have Star Trek(TOS/TNG) just in front of The XFiles ..but only just.

Too many great eps but I have a soft spot for Little Green Men,not the best by a long shot but a very enjoyable episode.
