We all came into this year expecting Zaharakis and Melksham to really kick on this year and be a big driving force behind our teams improvement. Three rounds in though, other than Zaharakis' second half against North, they've had little impact on the field. What's even more worrying is that they don't seem to be putting in too much effort when they haven't got the ball, particularly Melksham with his chasing.

If we're going to challenge the top four sides, these two are the ones that really need to lift. They're probably lucky that we do have so many injuries at the moment, otherwise they may be in danger of being dropped.

Melksham must have an injury. No other excuse for such an insipid performance.

Zaharakis is beginning to look like a real down hill skier. Seems to take forever to get into a game and too easily shut out.

Just because the team wins doesn't mean the team is immune from criticism. Melksham in particular deserves a lot.

Yeah I know.

That close up shot of Melksham giving a pathetic chase was embarassing for a third year player.

I think that it will take a while for the young players to get used to the bulk that they have put on over summer. Melksham has certainly lost a yard of pace over the summer but thats to be expected if you put on 5 kgs. Its just going to take time for them to adjust

All talk no walk with Melksham. I have more hope for Colyer than I do for him. It's not a "omg it's only round 3, sif measure season performance on current form" ... it's an attitude thing. And his attitude hasn't changed in 12 months.

Zaka should just watch the replay of that game with just Ablett's possessions. He's got to figure out that great midfielders can't just be outside runners... they've got to have the ability to get the ball for themselves and the elite players consistently do that.

This is a good point.

always been lazy defensively. There's a moment in the Geelong game last year that really displays it. I'll upload it some point tonight. I suppose, thinking about it, that example is more just not being aware of what he should be doing, but in any case I think being lazy and not particularly aware about his defensive responsibilities are related.

so anyway this is it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qHgebaSpzA

Maybe not as bad as I hyped up or anything, but I've seen it about 1000 times (;)) so I always think about it when I think of Melksham. It's just a really poor effort. Completely unaware where Enright is, and then not much of a chase. He just doesn't seem to care much for the defensive side of things at this stage of his career

Zaharakis has to cope with being tagged - Loved his game against the kangaroos - disappointing the last 2 weeks.

Melksham has just been going. Issues with the defensive side of his game.

They are both tracking along OK for a third and fourth year player.
