I was thinking about this when reading the other body size thread on this board and wondering how we felt about it. As a backlash to "traditional" beauty standards there is a growing trend in the media to promote "women of all sizes". However the majority of the time these women of all sizes happen to be on the larger side because being thin isn't what real women do. According to posts prevalent on social media "real women have curves" or "real men go for curves only dogs go for bones" and other such nonsense.

It goes beyond this. I see many larger women trying to force food onto my very slim wife because "you can afford to eat it". Yes maybe she can gain a kilo or two without it being a big deal. However this does not mean that she has to be a disgusting glutton.

Self help and positive image websites will constantly tell us all that big is beautiful but do you know what isn't beautiful? Obesity. I'm sick of seeing people who are genuinely obese championed as standing up for real women whilst naturally thin women are demonised. This is thin shaming it is in my opinion worse than fat shaming because thin people are far more likely to be healthy than those being fat shamed.

SG will have a field day with this thread.

My opinion- how about everyone mind their own ****ing business and just worry about themselves. Am truly astounded people "force" food onto the OPs partner. Tell them to get ****ed.

lol Pizza Hut ad comes up for me in this thread.

Yeah people can be a bit too judgmental on size alone - sure the picture above, and Karen Carpenter toward the end are two examples of unhealthy sizes. But people can be petite or a little large and still be pretty healthy.

Healthy eating?

People can be overweight for a variety of reasons and those reasons can be far too complex, then just telling someone to eat less.

The only advice I would give is eat a nutritional balanced diet.

Also- there's only one type of people that can force food onto people and that's Grandmas. Wog grandma's in particular ;)

(RIP my yia yia)

Having eaten garbage in my life at one time, it just wreaks havoc with your internal organs all the fat and grease.

How people eat for example a deep fried mars bar is beyond me.

I think there's a problem with a lack of resilience among people these days. I couldn't give a **** what other people think of me, so it isn't possible for them to 'shame' me. This year there's been an explosion of fat shaming, thin shaming, **** shaming, men shaming, feminist shaming, short hair shaming, SAHM shaming, working mum shaming, bottle feeding shaming blah blah blah. JUST **** OFF.

Who cares? Have the courage of your convictions and then people can't shame you.

Overweight people, who have no other reason for overeating except for gluttony should be shamed. It costs the Govts billions.

As mostly males in this thread, we probably have no right to talk about it womens body issues.

Now, trying being a lean bodied fella who isn't interesting in getting a 24hr gym membership in this day and age, and you'll find equality is definitely here, in the way of body image bullying.

Why don't men have a right to talk about women's body issues? They presumably have mothers, sisters, wives, daughters...

Do you even lift bro?

I love how it's always the Chrissy Swann types saying "real women have curves".

Here's a little tip to help translate fat woman talk back into proper English.

Anorexic = skinny
Skinny = normal
Normal = chubby
Curvy = fat
Big beautiful woman = obese
