I still have to go in as I teach in a specialist school. If I have to go in a do remote classes on site with dodgy department internet and close to 100 staff on site, like the end of term 2, the union have shown what a weak spineless body they are.
We had one sent home at the end of last term and the mum accused the teacher of racism because the student is Asian. The teacher was distraught.I still have to go in as I teach in a specialist school.
Our school nurses are going to be inundated now we have to do temp checks. Parents have been annoyed we are sending them home with runny noses and coughs etc. Good luck now with temp requirements being below 37.5
For some parents, this is their respite so when we have tried to call some we haven't been able to get through or they have just said they can't pick them up till 2pm or later (after calling at 10am).We had one sent home at the end of last term and the mum accused the teacher of racism because the student is Asian. What is fair should be irrelevant right now. My wife will be required to go in as she works with special needs kids. She works in one of the original lockdown postcodes. She gets it then I get it and chances are I spread it to my school in the eastern suburbs and the spread continues. I can completely understand the mentality that it doesn't work for kids with additional needs/in a special school setting. But already some of my colleagues have been questioning why we have to go back when mainstream don't and the fact that the department don't care for them. Also some of these kids have low immune systems/medical conditions so sending them on a packed bus to school can be just as for them.
I think that is also one of the big concerns with my staff. What is fair should be irrelevant right now. My wife will be required to go in as she works with special needs kids. I work at a P-9 school. We are onsite this week and next week for sure. At the moment our Principal has stated we shall continue to work onsite from week 3, pending the number of students that attend school for remote learning. What about you? What are school’s doing with staff in regards to remote learning in metropolitan Melbourne?
Also onsite this week providing care/supervision for those that need it and preparing for remote learning. We haven’t been told whether we’ll be delivering it onsite or from home yet.I work at a P-9 school. We are onsite this week and next week for sure. The problem was the government stated that working from school was the default position, then it would be up to each individual school as to whether they'd allow staff to work from home.I’m getting the impression that we will be working onsite which goes against the government’s message regarding working from work.
I don't really agree. What pressure? Send your staff home, create a roster of on site once a week for supervision and prioritise safety. A no brainer. The problem was the government stated that working from school was the default position, then it would be up to each individual school as to whether they'd allow staff to work from home.
Far too much pressure on individual principals in my opinion. Government should have directed that staff work from home unless they need to teach a class or be rostered on to supervise.
I'm not upset about going in to work though. We have plenty of free classrooms to distance or isolate from others.
It sounds sensible. So I can't see many prins doing it.I don't really agree. What pressure? Send your staff home, create a roster of on site once a week for supervision and prioritise safety. A no brainer.
I've got massive concerns for kids from low socioeconomic backgrounds. My absolute concern is how far some students are falling behind during remote learning. The longer it goes, the greater the implications. All the way fr Prep through to year 10.
I'm in at school 3 days a week and am totally comfortable with going in to supervise. I've been wearing a mask since last Monday, including when I am in a class with students. I'm doing my best to social distance from staff.
Find someone who did it last year and copy theirs with a few modifications. It's a load of bureaucratic bullshit anyways.Anyone recently completed their VIT registration? As in moving to full registration.
I have selected an inquiry question but I am finding it really difficult to get started. The lady at our school whose job it is to oversee the registration process is recently new to the job and unfortunately just directs me to the VIT website whenever I have a question.
Any tips? I guess I am finding it hard without a structure or process to follow.
Legitimately what Deliverance said. I did mine end of 2018 and it was very rushed in the sense that I may have manufactured a few student 'responses' and graphs. Used a few colleague's ones too and adapted to suit question. I looked at purpose statements.Anyone recently completed their VIT registration? As in moving to full registration.

Yep, considering we pay over $90 a year to renew our registration to do something we spent 4 years+ at university studying.VIT can go and fu** themselves.
I teach in the SE, in a low socio-economic area (albeit it’s moving toward medium) and I fear that my 12s and to a certain extent my 11s will just give up. They’ve said it to me in class. Most of the parents are essential workers.Students are resilient. Academics will be a big catch up for primary. Secondary will be a worry if parents cannot assist their child to do remote learning, but it is also up to Parent's to push them to do it.
