Pro sport for women is still in it's infancy really so many of these sort of issues are untested. You could argue that pro sport is not like a normal work environment, and some form of discrimination against pregnant women is desirable for the safety of both mother, and baby.

even in a normal workplace, I dare say most organisations would want to know who is injured, pregnant and elderly to assess the risks, discuss the issue with the person and then consider what "light duties" means for the role.

As the Phil Hughes incident reminded us, cricket isn't really like the normal job. There is a physical risk there and the potential for some complications from a pregnant batsmen getting hit basically justify the position.

Though I'd imagine that most pregnant women who wanted to have the baby would follow the advice from their Doctor and not play professional cricket anyway.
