About

After overcoming a career-threatening hamstring injury in 2005, the inspirational Collingwood skipper spent more time up forward in 2006 and played all but two matches, and finished ninth in the best and fairest voting. Buckley booted 26 goals, including a career-best six goal effort in his 29-possession, 13-mark outing against the Brisbane Lions at the MCG in round 10, and became the club's most capped skipper when he led the Magpies for the 154th time in the thrilling round 21 victory over Port, a game in which he also starred with 26 touches and two goals. Notched up his 250th game for Collingwood in the round 17 Friday night victory over Hawthorn, and by season's end had played 275 AFL games. Turned 34 during season 2006 and showed that when fit and at his best, he is still one of the most damaging players in the competition.

Despite all the brilliant games he has had, and despite the absolute devastating machine he was in his prime....

The way I will remember him, is from a match where we had basically no bench, players were dropping like flies at the hands of our nemesis who were roughing us up. We had the early lead, but they were storming ahead, kicking goal after goal, and took the lead. We seemed helpless. Enter the great one. He is moved forward, and single-handedly gets us over the line with 29 pinpoint possessions, 6 goals, 13 marks and 3 tackles. And of course his amazing leadership. This game of course, was just last year against Brisbane in round 10. Despite everything I've seen this man do at his peak, winning a norm smith in a losing GF etc., an aging Nathan Buckley pulled a crippled Collingwood over the line against a raging opponent. That is how I will always remember him.

Remember the game, and it is typical of so many, 02 GF dragged the rest of the team along with him to scare the bejesus out of Brisbane, so much so that I remember Voss saying the year after that they wanted to make amends for that day. Other teams can say what they want about their 'aging champs' but Buckley is the original and best, gotta laugh when supporters say "if only he had stayed at Brisbane", if only he had stayed at Brisbane he would be associated with the thug Voss and the roid muncher himself as forgotten stars in a football backwater. Will have a statue next to Bob Roses one day. Can't wait until sat night to see him back in. Who saw Caroline Wilson on Insiders yesterday trying to start a Buckley v Malthouse rift? Pathetic Caroline, pathetic.

Its a shame for him (not trolling) that he couldnt have won an AFL premiership because he deserves 1

Although he would take pressure off list management by retiring at year end, if the body is willing, I would like him to go around once more to give it one more crack.... that is if we don't win it this year:rolleyes:

in case u dont know...he hasnt retired yet..dont know why theres about how we are going to remember him

That's what i thought too but on one of the footbalkl shows either Afl teams or on the couch they were going through the motorcade for this years grandfinal and had buckleys name in amonngst the retirees and then they said "and thers two weeks left who knows there could be a few names added to that list still" which confused me. I think he will retire and in a way i hope he does it sucks to see the champion that he is struggle so hard just to get out there and you really want his career to end on the ground rather then out with injury.

That said if he plays on and we play finals theres a hope we could snag 1 for him (i think every1 in the football world would love that) theres also the chance of him pkaying his 300th which he deserves

He will have to pissbolt from the motorcade to put his boots on and line up in the forward line for us!

Don't forget, finals are a whole different ballgame to the H&A season, Cam Mooney hasn't got one just yet either ;)

Actually, I think you'll find Mooney has won a flag... for the Kangas back in 1999... had only played about 7 or so games at that point and he hardly got a touch... but like Glenn Freeborn, he'll always be a premiership player...

It annoys me seeing some first year player win a premiership medal, when guys like Bucks and Harvey never win one.

Has Bucks said that he will not play next year?

Considering how much effort he has made to get back to full fitness this year if all goes well physically he might (read: I hope he does) decide that another year is not out of the question.....

If he plays the next two weeks and one Final then he would be able to play his 300th game in the later rounds next year...followed by his second premiership???

I know this is a bit of a fantasy, but wouldn't it be great.....we can only hope.:D:D:D:D:thumbsu::thumbsu:
