Just the primary difference is that I could see both these players being able to break into the lineup at some point in 2010, while I don't think Cook or Corrie will which is why I bring up this discussion.

All we ever hear about the coming draft is that is will be dominated by GC17 and apart from the chance we could lose required players not covered by contracts there is no value to be had from it t all.
One of the aspects of the coming 2010 "nightmare" draft which I think is always overlooked is the fact that all other clubs are seriously looking at their lists and pruning, not necessarily poor players, but peripheral, redundant or duplicated players. These players will not be protected by contract extension, signalling their availability to GC17 and any other club thereafter. The wheat will no doubt go in the draft by pick but many will not and I think we will see an unprecedented Trade Week and PSD this year.
After GC17 have picked the eyes from the new and truly valuable players they have access to there is going to be a feverish surge from the other clubs to offload players they deemed to not warrant a "protective" contract who have not been picked up in the Draft.

Collingwood could be in a better position to take advantage of and "profit" from this situation having Cook and Corrie as additional barter than without.

Just a theory, but I stand by the "unprecedented" Trade Week idea.

With GC coming out and saying that they will be targeting KPD, I wonder if Mckenna will have a crack at any of Reid, Goldsack and Dawes. I wouldn't really want to lose any of them.

Their individual contract status would be a good guide of the clubs thoughts on each.
Anyone enlighten us on the contract status of these three?

If Cook improves his kicking, he'll be AFL standard. He's got the athletic attributes and runs hard enough to get the footy.

If Corrie attacks the ball harder and improves his kicking he'll be AFL standard, as he is good athletically and knows where to go to get the footy.

People are putting lines through these guys too quickly.

It always happens.....it is a case of the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

Cook is a quality VFL player, he has played some OK AFL games for us as a tagger, must be a good clubman for him to stay around. If a bloke like Toovey goes down he can step right in and do a job. His body is well developed and is now a legit depth player.....if need be he can come in and do a job....we are going for a flag now, not in 2014 so we need mature bodies on the list.

Corrie, im more meh about.....he was getting regular games for Brisbane, yet struggles for opportunity as we have a fleet of quality creative smalls.

Both are solid, yet people want to drop them to pick up some other clubs rejects.......if a bloke cant get a game at West Coast, he wont improve our list!

I am not advocating dropping either just pointing that at the end of next season if they are "not required" players then they may get more value than if we delisted them this year or traded like for like just for the sake of it.

Dawes I would not be opposed to trading, if he develops this season then that would only increase his trade value. I'm certainly not a Dawes hater and would like to see him retained at seasons end without a doubt regardless of whether or not he breaks into our side as a regular, but if he was to be traded it would have to be a fair and equitable trade (2nd round pick or better)

Likewise Goldsack who I would possibly consider unnecessary and quite a good trading chip really. He is a quality young player but with our backline packed with other medium sized backman I see him as potentially tradeable at the right price (Late 1st round to early 2nd round I would be demanding as a minimum)

Reid I would not trade. While being a 1st round pick I see him being important to our backline structure alongside N.Brown. This will likely be Prestigiacomo's last season and L.Brown is not young either, so ultimately we need a combination who will be able to hold down our key position defence posts for many years to come. Only having N.Brown and L.Brown as our only key position defence options would not be a good list management position to be in at all! Regardless of the quality of pick/ player you get in return!

Wellingham is probably another name I would look to fish around. To me he is becomming an unnecessary midfielder to some extent. For now I would consider him a depth player for Collingwood due to our upgrades with Ball and then with the development of the young unit including Beams and Sidebottom. Wellingham I would probably look to trade for a minimum early 2nd round pick.

None of these players I would necessarily be looking to trade, but at the right value (the value I have placed on them on this page) I would then, and only then look at it.

But Reid is a definate no.

I may be wrong but I thought Corrie was already contracted so no real option from cap point of view than keep him

This is true. If Collingwood delisted him and drafted another player, they would be paying two salaries for one spot.

Also given the recruitment of Luke Ball and Darren Jolly, Collingwood would surely be right on the salary cap limit.
