Movie Thor

Watched it yesterday. I thought it was pretty average to be honest, however im not a big fan of the whole fantasy thing. I would of like more fight scenes to take place on earth. Movies like Dark Knight, even Spiderman are way better then this. Hemsworth did alright and portman looked good as always. Overall i would prob give it 6.5/10.

I quite enjoyed the movie but I think that's the last time I watch a 3D movie while glasses are still needed, absolutely killed the colour and brightness to a point where the movie was less enjoyable.
I was also a bit confused by the DoP's desire to have the camera in a Dutch Tilt throughout much of the movie.

Saggers that will end up with stretch marks.
They'll probably end that way but right now they are :thumbsu:

Yeah that was an odd choice.

I loved it though. A lot of fun, just what I want out of a superhero movie. It's all about Sif though

I must have had high expectations going in cause I was overly disappointed coming out.

Iron Man 1 & 2 leave this film for dead. I just hope Captain America, and The Avengers are much much better.

am getting hard.

anyway, TOF_08, i have a feeling that captain america might disappoint. personally i dont like the look of him (looks a bit camp). but i guess its set in the what 40s or something?

i hope i am proved wrong.

It is. :thumbsu:

But, this..

According to producer Avi Arad: "The biggest opportunity with Captain America is as a man 'out of time', coming back today, looking at our world through the eyes of someone who thought the perfect world was small-town America. Sixty years go by, and who are we today? Are we better?"

Yep... disappointing for my expectations... but definitely watchable for other casual viewers.

PROs
- Hemmsworth as Thor was brilliant
- Hopkins was great
- Actors playing Loki and elderly scientist were good
- special effects (Asgard and Jotunheimr) were great
- comic 1-liners were well placed
- dramatic scenes between Thor, Odin and Loki all top notch.

CONs
- Thor's lack of time on Earth
- Natalie Portman (who I like) was poor
- Portman's and Hemmsworth's chemistry was poor
- SHIELD scene's and sequences were "run of the mill" type stuff
- the Destroyer was cool in Asgard but underwhelming on Earth
- why New Mexico... and always in the USA???

Summary...
I wanted to see less of Thor's adventure's across the cosmos, plus less of his buddies mopping around Asgard and more of Thor on Earth. On top of that Thor's time on Earth was basically a weekend in some small hickville town in the middle of New Mexico. Then we're expected to cop that Thor learns humilty and discovers love during that short stay??? Around this are lengthy scenes about Thor's Asgardian friends lazying about and dining. We're also expected to believe that 3 cosmic scientists would have next to no knowledge about Norse cosmology and Thor... except for a few childhood stories. The entire US scientist angle with Portman stank and was so forced and by-the-numbers that it strangled a rather promising movie. Ditto with SHIELD's by-the-numbers involvement. Then the BIG confrontation scene on Earth was basically the Destroyer ripping up a few desert hick town windows and cars (that actually looked like a Hollywood set)... YAWN. Pretty underwhelming climax... which only picked up again with the final wonderful scenes between Thor/Loki and Asgard special effects.

Finally, why is that all of a sudden in the Asgardians now suddenly connect straight to New Mexico and not in Northern Europe?

I recommend seeing it... but it is a middle of the pack superhero type movie.

Was an average Scifi movie where the world rotates around the US, just wondering when the movie industry will think up better looks for their bad guys rather than having a planet full of Ice Giants look like the head vampire from Underworld. There must be some people around that can at least think up a new character look.

Thor was Ok. Nothing really new has been done in this movie in terms of plot and plot devices. Just a bunch of scenes done a million times before but this time with a Thor flavour.

Hemsworths Australian accent was used to make Thor sound different to the other characters. Branagh brought a nice Shakespearean type quality to the performances of the characters from Asgard.

But overall it was just another one of those big budget special effect jobbies without any real substance or originality to it.
