Just heard on the radio - has told the Blues he wants to play for the Hawks.

Just need to orchestrate a decent trade.

Positive. Hope we don't trade up big for him though. I'm happy if Taylor is part of this agreement.:thumbsu:

And pick 6:D
No chance of pick 6! This is a rich draft and pick 6 could turn out to be as good as pick 1.

More like a player and 2nd or 3rd rounder i would have thought?

Possible Hawthornton deal...(very specualtive)

Syd Everitt/24 for 15/49

Carl 15/49 for Thornton/51

Haw Thornton/51 for Everitt/24

What station?, who was doing the talking?

SEN breaking news, app he told carlton that he wants to play for us and that a suitable trade would need to go through next week for him to become a hawk. thats all - still in the air i know, but worth a thread.

I love the fact that somebody wants to play for us.. 2 years ago, players wouldve been running away..

That said, im more than happy tp send him to the PSD if Carlton dont like our offer. It wouldnt bother me if we got him or not..

How does that work? He wants >$260k so if Essendon or Brisbane etc grab him, do they have to negotiate the wage prior to drafting him? What if they grabbed him and said that they are only going to pay him $100k or he can sit out for the season?

What im saying is, i couldnt care. It wouldnt affect us.

We'd lose nothing
Carlton would lose Thornton

They either get a deal done through us, or they lose him for nothing. No biggie if we dont get him, we'll manage..

Agreed, but then can't they draft him back in the PSD with pick 1? I just don't get it and it is a deffo restraint of trade!

The PSD deal is that you nominate your price/years and the club has to pay you that. That's why Carlton won't re-draft him, because they don't want to pay him the price, so why would they pay the price and waste a PSD #1 pick.

I wouldnt be that disappointed if he did go PSD, as Carlton won't draft him, Brisbane don't have salary room, Kangeroos are very low on the cap due to no money, leaving Essendon, Port then us to get him for free.

When a player enters the PSD, he puts a price on his head which clubs have to agree with if they pick him up. :thumbsu:

which is why Carlton will do a deal, they cant afford to be stubborn like Port were with Stevens.

I agree fully!
it is about time we have players keen to get to our mighty club! :thumbsu:

This will be a better effort from Pelchen if we can get a good deal for him. Imagine if we give up something like 24 + 33 for Thornton, when we got 14 + 18 for Hay. And add to that Thornton would be about our 5th highest paid/rated player and yet we only give up 2 second round picks.

I'm very confident as long as pick 6 is out of bounds.

If I was Carlton, and you only offered 24 and 33, rather than take that I would go to Essendon and say give us Pick 18 and a player for Trent Sporn and in return we'll force Thornton in the the PSD.

The Bombers rate Thornton highly cause he always gives their forwards a bath, and Fletcher is on his last legs. They would be interested, and having Thornton stitched up would give them more flexibility with what they did with pick 2.

Gurantee you this.

Pick Six is staying with Hawthorn

Dawson is staying with Hawthorn.

All the chatter about pick 6 is just rot. Carlton will trade on Thornton if they can't sign him. He ain't worth a first round pick. :D

I think we need Gary. He has insiders in the HFC and can tell us whether or not Pick 6 is going to be on the table. Personally, I doubt it. :D

Not sure what else we can offer. Obviously you aren't interested in Brennan, Boyle, Thurgood, Ball etc.

Players of value we could add to the trade: Osborne, Young, Little, although I'd prefer to keep them, they could be let go for Thornton.
