Moving him away from the middle would be like putting Plugga down back because he hasn't kicked a goal by half time. It's a silly idea.

I don't think it moving him out of the middle but tweaking his role. get him coming off the back of the contest rather than at the coalface. Getting him some space to run into. Rather than be the first possession in the chain let him receive the 2nd, 3rd or 4th possession. It's to easy to scrag inside the contest a lot more obvious on the run outside.

We need a midfield coach who can teach the other midfielders how to protect Sloane and give him the space he needs.

Yeah it would be like moving Ricciuto or McLeod from their best single position.

Play him on the wing more. Let him run to receive outside possessions. Still play him inside for important centre clearances.
We have the Crouch brothers and Greenwood now who can hold us up for clearances so don't need Sloane there 100% of the time if he's just going to be tagged out of it.

Yup.. I'm all for this as well.

Time to take alone out of coal face at times and make others stand up which will develop their games and make us less reliance

He can be our Luke Hodge and play across half back and be a star then go into midfield at times

Spruiking versatility but then not acting on it is a bug bear of mine re Pykey

Smith can play mid at times surely , especially if Sloane goes to half back

Other option is for him to play on wing where his weapon would be his gut running

Need to change up our ruck strategy and make it less predictable. Instead of Jacobs tapping it softly to his left or right every time (to which ever side Sloane is on), smack the thing into space and let Rory run on to it. Geelong do that with Danger and it allows him to get clear of his opponent.

Reckon Laird into the middle along with a bigger body in Hampton once back from injury should help out sloaney. Jacobs needs to start hurting players ala Mummy as well. Needs to also be a team focus. Sloaneys opponent needs to be hurt by every player at every opportunity. Sloane also needs to play his natural game which he is not currently. I know he is a nice guy but sloane needs to start getting nasty. Joel Selwood or Mitchell don't put up with that shit. You wanna tag, well expect some stitches. It needs to be a collective but our whole team needs a dose of nastiness if we are to have any chance of a flag.

He seems to be too stagnant at the stoppages and allowing his tagger to either block or scrag him.

We need to forget about Sloane setting up at the stoppage like we are used to, he needs be on his bike, constantly moving. Then if the tagger gets in his path he may get a free for blocking or holding and when he does take possession he's going to have a bit of momentum behind him.

Should we trade up for dusty then

Mackay and Gore. For Dusty.
Club champion and a promising mid who came second in the voting in a year where he only played "half the games".
For a disruptive ratbag with dodgy friends.
Sounds fair.

Pretty sure Mackay isn't going anywhere as was the case with Hartlett and lobbe no one wants to take on the cap space problem

Gore will be delisted on the same fashion grigg was and no one will pick up

But Sloane for dusty would make for an interesting debate, dusty seems the more capable player

I don't really want to lose Sloane. We need the other mids to take the pressure off so that tagging Sloany is self defeating.
Brad needs to fulfill his potential but I'm doubtful of this now. He's become quite B grade. In fact Matt C. is twice the player Brad is at the moment. I think we need to pony up and buy Rockliff.

You mean like Gibbs the first thing about getting a decent player is that decent player has to want to come here first

I think there's 2 very simple options.

1 - hard tag the oppositions best mid. Not a namby pamby 'run with' type tag but a Libba Snr full on krunt tag including some face scratching. Take a nil all draw between both teams 2 best kids plus they waste a medium mid on his tag.

2 - I've said, Spackler's said it, he's got all the attributes for a Burton type gut running wingman. Not as aerial, but would be stronger overhead than any tagger that could run with him.

But we don't want to succeed unless we do it the way we spent all preseason planning.

The odd screen/block at a stoppage now and then by any one of his teammates might help

Team mates need to support more

Sloane getting bumped and roughed up at the contest and his team mates don't get involved to fly his flag or put on any blocks for him
This is the key. It's painful to watch.

There needs to be a team rule that every time you pass their tagger you give him a bump/ elbow/ jab. Every time. Taggers hate getting roughed up

Do you think, I reckon Crowley used to love the contact the more you gave him the better he got

Other players to create separation between Sloaney and the tagger. Not by wrestling, using motion of a player like Greenwood or Crouches. That means Jacobs taps need to be to the right place. That might be harder than it sounds.

I think an expendable player like Douglas needs to pulverize Sloane's tagger before the opening bounce. Put the tagger on his arse, in pain, before he even attempts to tag Sloane to say we mean business.

If it causes a melee/suspension/free kick, so be it

Yes
Yes and yes...

Jarman broke tags by going forward
McLeod by going to half back
Neither option is ideal for the player Rory is.
Get Douglas / Greenwood between Rory and the tagger.....block and give the same treatment that Rory has copped for a month.

I was really quite annoyed that nobody has really flown the flag over this. There was a bit of pushing and shoving but that only last a few minutes....
