Sorry but you don't know what you're talking about
Dean Polo was 6th in the agility run, 3rd in the shuttle run and 7th in the 3km time trial
He was recruited because of his motor, he can run all day

Cheers!!

On the draft, when you've got 5 years to rebuild, you go for the best available players.

Only the short sighted types like Frawley look for players to fill a specific position ie small goal kicking forward like Paul Hudson.

Its not like we'll dramatically improve this year so much that we wont have good draft picks season end.

Well something has happened between then and now if you ask me.

Well Tiger of Old which KPP would of you wanted at pick 20 instead of Polo, Willits might of been good but unfortunatly he went at 19.

And how many games have you watched him(Polo) play to come to such a harsh conclussion?

Bingo.

Roughead, Franklin, Williams, Messen, Bate, Dunn, Pattison, Wood & Wilits were gone at 20.

We needed an inside midfielder to compliment our first 3 picks, and the team in general(Cogs cant do it alone).Polo, i believe, is this type of player and will develope nicely into a more than handy player.
Adam Thompson would of been ideal though :(

who said anything about a KPP at 20?
how many games.lets see about 5 training sessions,2 intra,s and last week for Coburg.
For the record i would have preferred Ben Eckerman over Polo.

whats with the Bingo?

English is hard isnt it?

bin·go ( P ) Pronunciation Key (bngg)
n. pl. bin·gos
A game of chance in which each player has one or more cards printed with differently numbered squares on which to place markers when the respective numbers are drawn and announced by a caller. The first player to mark a complete row of numbers is the winner.

interj.
Used to express the sudden completion of an event, occurrence of an idea, or confirmation of a guess.

n : a game in which numbered balls are drawn at random and players cover the corresponding numbers on their cards [syn: lotto, beano, keno]

BINGO: in Acronym Finder

This is what worries me though. For too long we have been a poorly skilled side, carrying too many blokes with poor kicking technique who haven't really improved over the years. Watching a side like Melbourne play last Friday, I don't think I could spot anyone out there who didn't kick well and generally hit targets, similarly with all the top teams. This is where we need to get to.

There's a lot of argument about whether or not players' skills can be dramatically improved once they get into the afl system. Some players obviously improve but a lot of others don't. I'm not sure as a team we can afford to take the risk that players we draft will be able to improve enough under someone like Royal. IMO we need to be drafting highly skilled players (Deledio, Tambling, Meyer), maybe they might not have some of the other qualities that other players have like Polo and Pattison, but at least we know they can kick properly and hit targets. With draft picks like 16 and 20, we should be able to get players with high enough skills as well as the other important qualities, not forsake one for the other.

Fair enough, sounds good in theory but let's remember one certain example of this previously tried concept: Aaron Fiora! Need I say more?

Pattison does look like he will be a 'class' tall forward or back. Whlist he is very mobile he is isnt very althletic nor have outstanding skills.

No, he isnt.

Its quite commenly accpeted Pattison doesnt have the turning circle/agilty to hold down center half forward.

He should be quite a mobile ruckman however.

Do you think the comparison of Stuey Lowe is right?

Looks likes hes got a bit of Darcy in him. Darcy is a great running ruckman which gets kicks around the ground and would get Shuttle run & 3k results.

However he would never be a great KPP, would he.

We need to draft a ruckmen cause i think Pattison will be more of a KPP

I think you could be wrong my friend.

Pattison is quick in straight lines but can't change direction. When he plays CHF and his opponent runs off him, he gives chase and he can catch them. Unless they put in a little change of direction in which case they are immediately in 10 metres of space.

I can't see Pattison as a CHF/CHB. He was recruited as a ruck prospect to learn from Simmonds and take over from him in 4 years.

The worry is that he did little as a 17 year old, and as a top-age 18 year old did not make the Vic Metro team. He only really came into form in the second half of his final junior season.

The thing that made him draftable was that he is determined, plays hard and has leadership qualities. If you are going to gamble on someone, you may as well gamble on someone with the drive to work on their flaws.

Polo has a strange running style and an ugly kicking action but, even though he has no right to, he hits targets. There would be a worry that under AFL pressure his kicking could let him down.

He is tough and disciplined though. In the Championships he got the man-on-man jobs on the 3 best midfielders going around in Deledio, Griffen and Morton and did very well on each one. Arguably beating them all.

Yes he needs to work on stamina, but all the teenagers do. It takes 2-3 preseasons to go from junior intensity to AFL intensity. Polo will be Chris Hyde jnr. He won't play until season 3, and then by season 4 he will be hitting his straps as an in the guts, man-on-man player.

These guys dont win us games. That would be my only worry about this kid. But we have drafted Tambling and Deledio, and maybe Meyer, which are drafted as game winners .

Sure, but you still need your Shaun Hart, Marcus Ashcroft, Brad Scott, Chris Scott, Tim Notting, Robert Copeland types if you hope to win things.

Match winners are few and far between and can suprise. Not many would have picked Shuan Hart as a Norm Smith medalist.

Your not wrong there Weaver.

Has Meyer been playing 1st at Coburg lately? Hows he been going?
