I see the team has continued with their leadership group from 2004.

Will Chris Judd be awarded the captaincy one day?

I think a leadership change would be refreashing and would complete Judd as a player and develop his leadership qualities as he is maturing into the genuine superstar he is to become. It would also help keep him in the state playing football for the eagles.

Judd will get his turn to captain, but for a while.

The club wouldn't use the captaincy as a tool to get him to stay. I also don't think they'll give it to him until Ben is in the final part of his career - they may even wait until Ben retires. There's no need to. Ben is a great captain. He leads by example on the the track and on the field. I also think he's getting to the stage where he'll put in more and more 'captain performances' like he started to do at the beginning of 2004 before injury hit.

Judd's only had 3 season at AFL level and as scary for the opposition as it sounds, he hasn't fully developed his own game yet. I think it's best for him as a player and a leader to be part of the leadership group for the next few years where he can develop but not have the responsibility of having to captain the club.

When he's 25 or so and Ben's 30 it may be a different matter.

Yeah maybe one day but not until Cousins is retired.

Cousins is the captain, he's a pretty good one, there's no problem.

Judd is in the state playing for the Eagles until 2007 at least, if he needs the captaincy to stay, he's probably at the wrong club.

You know, your username annoys me, do you have a short memory or something?

I think Judd will be captain before he is 25. That is if he is still here. He is only 21 atm.

the bloke is too young.. the captain doesn't have to be the best player on the list. It has to be the one young kids respect and has strong leadership abilities

I think Judd is captain material already. Preferably the prime age for him to be a captain would be 22/23. But that doesn't matter as Cousins is the captain, is doing a good job, and should still improve. If Cousins wasn't around then Judd would be the man but you can't just demote someone like Cousins without a damn good reason (lack of performance in captaincy duties). As someone has already said, giving Judd the captaincy to keep him is a bad move. And from what we know of C.Judd, he wouldn't expect such action to be taken. My gut feeling is Cousins will hold onto the captaincy until he is about 30 if Judd stays.

How dare anyone suggest Cousins shuld not be captain. I will always have the greatest of repect for Cuz for the 2000-2001 era when we were ********house. He always put in his all for the club when others wouldnt. He was the one shining light in the darkest of times.

Cuz should stay captain until he does not want it anymore.

Spot on.

We have already seen him take a pay cut for the side and i'm sure we would see him happily pass the captaincy on for the sake of the side, although I dont see this as ever becoming an issue if Judd is involved. Both players are above that.

We're not a fickle club that decides the captaincy on the flip of a coin e.g. Satan Kilda.

Judd's not the sort to hold the club to ransom and demand captaincy as a career move and Cuzzy is a great captain and top player who has done a lot for the club.

Cuz is only 26, which makes him a very young leader.

His captaincy skills will only improve over the next 2-3 years, which will provide a great environment for Judd (and the rest of the guys) to continue to develop as a footballer.

I'd like to see Cousins remain captain until he finishes playing, but when he hits the age of about 28 or 29, they should phase Judd in by giving him the co-captain title with Ben. Then when Ben retires, Judd is the full-time captain.

Yeah, I reckon Cousins should be captain for as long as he likes but I think at some stage down the track if Judd is still with us (most likely  ), we should give it to him.

I wouldn't mind seeing McDougall get it either, just so that some West Coast supporters would stop putting him down so much without thinking first.

The captain isn't necessarily the best, most exciting player but the player who commands the respect of the team, the player who leads by example on and off the field. Im not saying Judd isn't a magnificent player, he is, he may also one day be captain, but at the moment Cousins is a brilliant leader, one who really commands the respect of his troops and leads them with aplomb. He is captain for as long as he wants IMO.

I think Judd should get the job when Cousins is in the last couple of years of his career. Gives Judd some time to adjust to the job while still having a great leader to help him out. Cousins gets the benefit of being able to concentrate on his game a lot more.
Also, don't be surprised to see Stinger as VC at some stage, was rated as captain material over here.

As great as Judd is, i think it would be an insult to Benny if we took the captaincy away from him.

Cuz was captain during those disastrous periods when Judge was in charge, and i'd hate to see how bad those seasons would've been without him. In some aspects, despite the fact we got such great draft picks, Cousins maintained some sort of morale around the place. Without him, i dare say the club may have dropped to such a far extent that even the great draft picks we had may not have been enough to help us recover.

Cousins should be the captain to the time he retires. It would be an insult to him not to allow that.

Judd will be first in line, and i wouldn't be all that opposed to a co captaincy between the two at some point in the not too distant future, but not yet.
