Since we have seen a number of games where flooding has messed up our (and other teams) ability to find space and score in the forward 50, I was trying to think of ways to combat this.

One thing I thought of was that, if we manage to take a mark somewhere in the CHF area, that all our players huddle up out of bounds, behind the goal posts and then break into space from there.

Any thoughts on the viability of this?

1. Run the ball in.... Just as it is run out of defense continue the run much like rugby league except AFL has no rules against forward passes.
Have seen countless times where the players could have ran the ball in yet passed to an outnumbered forward, it's as if the players are on a leash.
I don't see many players being able to stop mattner, mcleod, johncock running the ball in this manner.

2. Have a set kicker to take a shot from 55 to 60, funnily enough we have a guy who can kick the ball pretty far who cannot outmark players in overhead contest, pretty sure we have another couple who can get onto them as well.

3. Superflood them right back, have our players running with the flow as well.

4. Set it up like a kick in, sure you can zone off the 50 but you can't zone off a quick lead and a good pass, this would have to be spot on.

We haven't had the fitness to do 1 or 3, the other two tactics haven't even been looked at which seems rather wasteful.
4 relies alot on the players run also though.
Basically the flood is basketball tactics so you have to lead in the same way, you have to box out your player and leave him flat footed which I don't see enough of it is a far superior way to lead.
Kicking a pass to the pocket in a flood under any circumstance is a waste of time this I see far too often also, it has to be threatening so as a spoil can't knock it out of play and our players can knock it to our crumbers.
