I think he has quite good insight, and adds a little humour in every now and then. A good replacement for Buckley.:thumbsu:

Love him - he's casually funny (the "turning for Kirky" line), unlike most commentator's humour, which is punching-you-in-the-chest obvious. He's got genuine wit and lightness in conversation, which is appealing. You respect him for his footy achievements, and enjoy watching him because he seems at ease in front of the camera, unlike so many former players who've convinced themselves a move into the media is the inevitable next step in their career.

Plus he's a good-looking guy too, according to my GF and other women I know. That's win-win for a commentary team.

I really like Harley, doesn't seem out of place and usually says more than just a couple words which is good

Like almost all special comments people this is what I hate the most. Do they get paid by the word? Seriously can't they just stop talking all the fu$king time - if you do that, then maybe people will actually listen when you have something interesting to say.

I've made the comment in another thread in this area that he's outstanding.

Thought he was atrocious with his bias for the cats on friday night though. I know i know, he's recently retired, but he's paid money to commentate now, not be a footy fan in our loungerooms.

So yeah, I rate him very highly, just not when he's commentating geelong matches.

Now all they have to do is get rid of "The Ox" and run Harley on Sundays and presto seven will clean up.

If commentators waited until they have something interesting to say, they would never speak. Most of them just state the bleeding obvious and give us nothing.

From the little I've seen of Harley he seems okay to me. At least he just talks footy.

My point was about special comments people, not all commentators.

Harley annoys me when he tries to say too much, like all special comments people (although he is not the worse offender). On the other hand, Leigh Matthews is pretty good and Gerald Healy is usually OK as well.

Less is more boys, less is more.

I like, though I did have a laugh just before half time in Friday's match when he kept stopping his speech, politely waiting for the umpires to shut up . Also, Mooney isn't 'nearly' as good as Ablett Sr.:D

Yeah I caught that too and and wondered what planet I was living on for a while. Wasn't Lockett mentioned with those who Mooney is comparable too as well?

I like him, he seems to have a good analytical football brain and most of what he says is worth listening to.
That is, apart from when he starts raving on about geelong.

One other thing i picked up on though, he seems to make love to the camera. dont you think?

Yes I somewhat agree here, however I think it's more explaining how Geelong do thinks as different to other clubs instead of downright barracking. But there was one instance on Friday when Mooney was kicking for goal and he called the goal a split second before Mooney had even kicked the ball.

I find him to be much better than most special comments commentators. He can actually speak a concise paragraph rather than fumbling his way through a sentence. What a joy.

I think he is a HUGE improvement on past ex-players turning to commentary. He is knowledgeable about the game and, better still, articulate enough to be able to communicate that knowledge clearly and concisely. He has a good sense of humor too, and seems to work very well with Commetti.

Agreed he is a little biased with Geelong, but this is to be expected as he was captain of the team only 9 months ago.

I like him. No complaints, although as said he contributes several positives for Geelong and fewer for other teams.
