Thoughts with Damien Monkhurst and Family.

Link>Pies star's son fights for life<

A fortnight ago Brent was a healthy teenager studying for his VCE and buoyant after meeting a new girlfriend.

Within days he was close to death after being hit with what doctors believe may be a viral infection that has weakened his heart.

His father Damian, who kicked the sealing goal in the 1990 Grand Final, said he and partner Trudi could not believe how quickly Brent had been hit.

"At first they thought it was gastro. He couldn't hold his food down and he felt really tired, so we took him to the doctors and they sent us off to the Austin Hospital, but he went downhill pretty quickly," Monkhorst said.

"He is sedated and has been in a coma since last Friday (week) and it's a matter of when he's able to be woken up.

My thoughts are prayers are with Damien and his family during this horrid time. I was lucky enough to interview Damien a couple of years ago for Nicks BB and he is a truly lovely man.
I've asked our Cheer Squad (via nicks) to use this weeks banner Vs Richmond to send Damien and his family a message of support as Damien is employed at Richmond this year. It seems fitting to use this weeks banner.

Re: Thoughts with Damien Monkhurst and Family.

Thought I should sticky this thread and merge it with a similar thread.

I will reverberate the thoughts of all the posters so far in saying the family is in my thoughts and I hope the family pull through with some luck in this terrible time for them.

Re: Thoughts with Damien Monkhurst and Family.

Update:

Collingwood will be wearing rainbow boot laces for something to do with some foundation, which in turn has something to do with Monkey's boy. Sorry about the sketchy details but an article will be released about it shortly.
That would be for Zaidee's Rainbow Foundation, a group that promotes organ donation.

According to the official site, all 16 AFL clubs will be wearing them at some point.
