after watching the game v roos.. im left with the knowledge that essendon will not win another game this season nor do i expect them to. people ask for the blood of sheedy but is it fair to blame him? is it his responsibility that players at the age of 28+, that have been playing the game for the last 20 years cant simply kick it straight to their team mates 30 meters down the ground? that you cant take a simple chest mark? its b-u-L-L S-H-I-T!

these fundamental errors fall onto the shoulders of the players not the coaching staff.. i just cant believe that i was watching essendon.. i rubbed my eyes thinking it was an u/12 game

we have lost the edge, we dont no how to win. and it was evident tonight

im sooo frustrated

my thoughts on some of the players

hird... slow minimal impact
hille.. your the captain why take a mark and then handball to hird a few meters away and put him under pressure
lucas.. mate if you and a few others stepped up to a average game then we would of won
mcphee... where have you gone? shadow of his former self..thrives in a confident team... no us atm
welsh...waste of space keep him at school boy footy level
bolton.... haha he showcased the typical bolton tonight
watson.. major props
heffernan.. played well
campo... pfffffft
staton... massive props
solomon....i wish you did leave the club when you could of
mcveigh..didnt really have an impact
lee.. love this kid... awsome to see him kick a goal
reynolds.... omg .. u sure he wasnt kicking with his eyes shut? like him up forward
cartlage... pfffft x2
fletcher... awsome as always
gus.. love him sooo much
dyson... playing average.. but leave him in team so he can improve
mj.. good
jj..ok drop him though
bradley... standard in backline
nlm..ok game

well if i was sheeds and the gang i would get out that big heavy selection axe and i would swing it mighty hard

would drop.. and i wouldnt care about balance spare me

jj,,solomon, bolton, welsh, cartlage <--- not going to happend but gawd it should...

essendon players hang your heads in shame

I really think Sheedy should teach the boys how to play good fundametal football. I mean this players go at it hard but theres a massive difference between a smart footballer and a guy who plays his heart out.

The most dissapoiting thing is that the team have been playing poorly and there have been little improvement to the side week in week out. Thier confident have been crushed with result such as the Hawtorn game. The only time this time gets going is when they have a sniff of the lead on second quarter and up.

I dont know what sheedy have been teaching the boys, but i really hope they improve the sides skills and chemistry on the feild also there mental attitude towards the game aswell. :thumbsu:

I know im a big wrap from the kid and can have a jaundiced view on his performances but i I thought he did well, especially defensively. He was given a tagging role on wells then later was moved onto a busy Harvey and had him benched.

Being at the ground i saw him work his arse off both ways, maybe he did too much defensive running as it may have detracted from his ability forward of centre.

He's one along with Lee that needs to play the rest of the year in the seniors, he brings a lot of what we need to the table.

Watched him closely as well Marcuz and God knows how many times Dyson was free around the 50m mark for a handball but his useless team mates wouldnt pass it to him.

FFS, he would of drilled atleast a couple of running goals had his no brain team mates chose the right option.

Just hope none of us Bombers fans are happy with a good loss of 7 points. A loss is never good with Essendon. We should be expecting to WIN WIN WIN no matter what. We have a WINNING Mentality installed in us since 1983.

Just hope that hunger can come back like it did in 1999.

marcuz, I admit I've not seen all of the game yet (I listened to the mmm call), but on one occasion they made a fair bit out of the fact he pulled out a (marking?) contest for fear of getting crunched.

to me, he has a great kick & decent speed, and is some ways is exactly what we need flying down the wings, hff etc.

but he is SCARED, and that should NOT be tolerated.
this is not the first time he's failed to put in (& yes I realise he's not alone) and it's not good enough.

since he is, (and has always been) 'your boy', it's your responsibility to take him under your wing, show him the bloody sights & sounds of the bouncer scene and toughen him up for us a bit will you?

cheers mate,
sb

Last night he did put his body in and chased and tackled better than i have ever seen him do before.

As for the marking contest if its the one on the wing then he didnt pull out, that ball hit his fingertips. He's no glenn archer but he didnt shirk any contests last night.

You want me to teach him how to along 3 or 4 other people gang up on a drunken individual and give them a fearful pounding? ;)

Thank god i don't do the **** anymore.

Ricky took a step forward last night, when he puts it together then we'll have a player.

Agree with Marcuz on this one. I've been critical in recent times of Ricky's defensive game. I realised he had obvious talent, but he had a fundamental flaw in his game and while everyone was busy at Sheeds for not giving him senior games, the reason he went back to Bendigo was a sound one.

And it worked, and that was proven last night. Ricky's efforts and defensive game were fantastic. The only negative I'll give him for last night was that toom any times he ran to receive onto his right footy. Kudos for trying to run, create and give us drive, but don't run onto your right foot Rick.

Sorry DJ, Sheedy takes the credit when he reels off his finals appearances, winning ratio, young players introduced etc. (makes me sick hearing it) so he can accept the blame for most of our on-field problems.
This year and last have been pathetic, end of story. His performance as coach is unacceptable and we need a new one.

the sad thing was that the kids played really well, and if only the seniors stepped up a notch we would of won.. i hope that is the thing that goes through the essendon boys minds... the kids won it and the seniors lost it

i have such little faith in mcphee atm that i expected him to spray that goal at the start of the 4th after the 50 meter penalty

i dont understand, we get the ball down the 50 enough.. its just once it hits the deck it is rebounded

oh and were was andrew lovett and courtney johns last night?

Why, when we take marks, do we handball off so quickly with out even looking and lose the ball so stupidly. Most of the time it either stuffs up really good scoring chances or creates them for the opposition, and it happens quite a lot!

Very simple DaSawx, the message is not getting through, and the remedial process when this sort of thing happens is not working. That is the difference between a coach who is making it happen with the team, and our current plight with Sheedy, who is no longer the coach we need.

a little harsh.. there is only so much sheedy can do.. il highlight one example last night

hille marks on the wing... he could
a) go back load up kick deep into attack and hope the best (our forward 50 marking i was happy with) or if it hits the deck a nlm might crumb and goal or
b) try and pin point a lead out
c) dish off to hird 5 meters to the right of him jogging who has 2 north players surrounding him.. and putting him under imediate pressure

so hille dishes off to hird and simply ****s that play up

that is not sheeds fault that is footy brains and hille our CAPTAIN should cop a spray for that... even i could make that decision... that has nothing to do with tactics of anything of the sort just using your BRAIN

its quite simple if in doubt kick it as close to your goals as possible... that is under 12 talk!

Yeah, have to agree that Im not a fan of the quick handball off like we're some flashy side. Probbaly only 3 ways the team can advance progressivley up the field...go long to a marking target, chip around (basketball) and choke the opposition (and game for that matter) or continuously switch across the ground. Running isnt our strongest suit right about now.

Dyson - Love his left foot and saw him try to work back last night for the first time. His effort in this area is a good start.

Stanton is the probably the best runner in the comp. Amazing tank. Gut runs at sprint pace for 100 minutes. We just had no-one who could go with him so we didn't bother. Would be good to see him do more damage though. Can't remember more than 5 of his 35 posessions.

part of my ongoing concern with Hille... it's too predictable that the young players are always looking for Hird or Lucas as a target. How often was Scotty double-teamed last night? Hille, like so many others, still gets very flustered at the thought of a quick disposal, nearly as much as he does with a thought out pass. What he does well is kick for goal and ruck. Stick to that. Got to say it was good to see NLM step up a bit when his family is in the crowd.

yeah that game was heartbreaking because staton, gus, watson and the like played blindas and we would of won if lucas, hird, soloman, mcphee and welsh all played well ... it needs a team effort

On the original post, I thought Solomon played quite well. He gave a way a soft 50m, but that was his only mistake.

Did some nice passes inside 50m and also some good work around the ground (the bump on Sinclair in particular). I'm happy to keep him in the side.
