So........you like our chances in the return match??! I feel Port may find maintaining their momentum difficult for the rest of the year, even with a fairly easy run home compared to ourselves. I am not as impressed with Port as most. Although I have been wrong many times...!!!

I thought 50:50 for Saturday with home ground advantage taking that to 55:45 and we only won by 4 points. It's a bit too far out to predict but right now I'd say 45:55 due to their home ground advantage. I'm not a big believer in home ground advantage and only go with it when two teams are very evenly matched.

King is a numpty, no doubt, and yet as far as commentators go he may not even make the top 10 worst such is the level of mediocrity we have to listen to. Mute is my friend generally.

but it's so much fun to laugh at their stupidity.

1. Haven't felt that wave of emotion from a crowd in many years. Fabulous.
2. Big fan of Derickx - but hitouts are our big weakness. Against ordinary sides, you just ball to ground and get a clearance. port's hands are good, great skills, so every hitout became a clearance. Can pyke improve that?
3. Another umpire "once a year" decision. KJack hets a 50 metre free - then it's reversed. Crucilal reversal - could have cost us the match. What could the Swans player have done that was so bad to merit this? - because I can't recall in years a 50 metre reversal. Anyone know?

Nick Smith was incredible as usual.

He made a mistake against the drug cheating sillies and Goddard got a goal.

It will be 2 more years before I can wrap him again.

I don't think King is a biased commentator in a club sense at all...he's just biased towards his own opinions - right or wrong.

I would prefer David King to must of the other commentary box idiots, but maybe that's because I know he's been a Swans fan since he was a kid. But I definitely think his comments are more intelligent and insightful than the likes of Brereton, Taylor, Russell, McGuire, Darcy, etc, etc. If I had to put together a commentary team I'd have him, Richardson and Cameron Ling, and maybe Matthew Lloyd although I've not heard Lloyd call games.

But back to three things I learned ...
1 Nick Smith (as others have pointed out here) and Craig Bird are genuine class, still getting better.
2 I'm still so very wary of the longer-term consequences of the Franklin deal but there's no denying he's an excitement machine, well, certainly when he's wearing red and white.
3 Jake Lloyd is proving one of those typical Swans hidden treasures; on the other hand, I am concerned about Gary Rohan's progress. Whether it's a genuine lack of confidence since coming back, or he's lost his speed, or just still in need of regular footy, he seems to have lost something and is a long way from the player he promised to be before his injury.

King is funny. I don't usually mind him when he remains general in his observations. But hearing him analyse Port's game was hilarious. It was as if he and only he, the great David King, had cracked the enigma code that is Port's success. Definition of a 'know-it-all'.

He gets on a hobby horse and bangs on about it all year waiting to be proved a 'genius'. And then when his 50/50 calls go bad, he deflects.

Hawks fans must have been laughing their arses off at him labelling them chokers in 2012 and predicting they couldn't get back up again in 2013.

Reminds of Robert Walls. Thought up 'Tempo' footy and that's all we heard for a decade, despite pretty much turning over half the list, updating and re-tooling our game plan, and changing coaches.

Enjoy his Port attentions while you can. It will begin to grate very shortly.

Any Swans fan paying attention would have known exactly what you've been creating over the last two years. Homage is the greatest compliment. Loved the moment in the third quarter when King started saying the Swans had changed their tactics and were suddenly playing Port's game. What a plonka. :drunk:

I watched the game again and thought King was the usual King with his non stop analysis. But for me at least he talks about the footy and not the players haircuts. Give me Dunstall and King everyday over the likes of BT, richo and darcy.

Feel for Richo probably hates working with BT, reckon Richo would be better if he worked with a serious caller instead of BT.

Agree with all of this.

A highlight of the week for me was turning on the replay and seeing no Dwayne Russell. Screamers, 'jokesters', and sycophants with pet players, pet hates, or pushy agendas drive me bonkers.

I think that commentary team was probably the 'a' team going around at the moment. Dunstall is great. :thumbsu:

Positives should be acknowledged. Commentators do get bashed on the boards a bit.

1: My Jake Lloyd crush has reached embarrassing proportions.
2: The SCG was created by Hogwarts engineers. According to opposition fans & commentators alike it has the ability to spontaneously shrink to the size of a coffee cup at will.
3: My sister, in her first year of membership was on her feet yelling her head off at the final siren. A great team playing great football with a great crowd can convert anyone:D

So true about the SCG. It's like the Tardis of ovals. Apparently it's a postage stamp, but when you start running towards the wings it just keeps going and going and going. It must be so confusing for players expecting the 50m arc to only be 45m as well. :drunk:

Loved that story about your sister. I'm a strong believer that you just need to get some casuals along to one or two cracking games like the one from the weekend and if they're open to it they'll be hooked. The best Swannie diehards are always born under fire. Time to quickly buy her a Guernsey. :thumbsu:

She'd say she's a little too old to wear a guernsey. And she is. But I'll give her credit, she rocks up every game wearing a red top with cap & scarf on hand. All I need to do now is get her to learn the names of who is actually playing!:p

So let's make it known to the club admin that we want finals at the SCG in the new deal.

Buddy's last quarter goals must have spectacular for people at the ground. 70m kick for a goal, unbelievable. The one after that was even better.

There's an interesting article up on foxsports comparing the similarities between Port's creed and the Bloods' culture:
http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/syd...attle-of-culture/story-e6frf33l-1226952497093

Great game and much respect to the way that Port played and their fans conduct themselves. IMO Sydney v Port has the potential to become the next Hawthorn v Geelong.
Super article. Respect for swans and their supporters. This board demonstrates footy knowledge and not off the cuff emotion. Look fwd to rematch
