Is there a solution to this, it seems to be getting worse trying to get a ticket to a major event / concert etc they sell out in minutes and instantly tickets are available on ebay etc at grossly marked up prices.

I have been trying to get tickets for Ed Sheeran for my teenage daughter for her birthday and you can't even get onto the site as it crashes constantly and kicks you off, even when you do manage to get on and get tickets you still get kicked off before payment, tried for hours through pre-sales and then the general sale, same again when extra shows announced. Thousands of fans complaining on their social media that they experience the same thing.

Despite the difficulty of the general population, eBay, Viagogo and other after market sites have an abundance of tickets to sell, even though the online purchase limit is 4.

Whats with this? Do they have super programs to get through the crowd, is it inside trading i.e. someone on staff buying them up and selling them off?

Is there a solution, clearly if nobody bought their tickets and they got stuck with them it would probably put them off, but some people are prepared to pay whatever it takes.

Clearly eBay don't care and nobody posts photos showing ticket numbers etc, so they can't get cancelled.

What's the solution, any ideas?

If the bulk are sold online originally then only solution is to have non transferable ones, ie the name of the person intending to use the ticket on each one. The resale sites are happy with the scalping as they get to take another cut of money, so they dont care as long as tickets sell.

Pretty much all events have presale lists. Concerts you can get onto them for free or a nominal price, like by signing up with fan club or promoter. Sporting events usually do it for 'community' members, so find a mate who has a kid who plays rugby/cricket/whatever.

I don't think I've ever missed out on tickets for anything I've really wanted to see, as long as I've planned ahead/researched/been prepared to spend a little bit more.

In terms of solving scalping, you just have to make tickets non-transferrable. Plenty of people bitch about that though, for obvious reasons.

Was on the pre-sale list, they were sold out in minutes and got nothing, even on the pre-sale there were several on re-sale sites within minutes. That's why I think its all an inside job, or the have 'systems" to beat the crowd.

That's what the Byron Bay Bluesfest does. You have to show photo ID when you present your ticket for entry.

It's ridiculous. Nobody seems to care either.

On another note with some smaller scale stuff, does anyone know how companies running some events these days can get away with 1st, 2nd, 3rd and final release tickets? They end up charging you ridiculous amounts for tickets that are exactly the same, only more expensive if you don't get in straight away. Surely that sort of shit should be illegal.

The is a lot of money being made on resales, and there is the instigation that the ticket sales companies are in on it which is why the non transferable tickets for events like that isn't more widespread.

Yeah Groovin does that too, I think it is a Moshtix thing, you can still change the name once, i think it costs about $8 , but thats pretty reasonable if you need to on sell for legitimate reasons. Would solve a lot of problems, I think.

Haven't heard of events doing that.
I thought it was the other way around, pre-sale a bit dearer than general release?

We were discussing this issue the first time around and it has be an "inside" job. Don't know how it was that at 1.04pm it kept coming up as "sorry etc." - 4 minutes to sell 50,000 seats or thereabouts - please

What state were you trying for Flash of power

Adelaide, funny thing is I actually got them yesterday, it was really weird because they have been sold out and i was considering getting tickets for the newly released Sydney show. When I got in and it asked me to select the location Adelaide was in the list, I clicked through and got two tickets, then immediately after it showed up as "allocation exhausted". Sydney again though was "single seats only" within just a few minutes of going on sale, but yet again plenty for the newly released show on eBay within a few minutes.

So good old Perth is only allowing the sale of 38k seats rather than 55k because they can't guarantee that the new footbridge and public transport system on a Friday night will be able to cope or even be ready for that matter. It apparently though will be okay on the Saturday night :drunk:

I used to do some shifts for Ticketmaster while I was at uni - I remember Prince concerts were a pain to sell. You could only buy a maximum of 2 or 4 tickets, they went on sale about a week prior to the concerts so that scalpers didn't have time to on-sell them and the tickets had to be booked under the name of the person attending. I don't know if they were even available online.

Pre-sales are often bullshit, with minimal tickets available, done so the event gets two 'on sale!'s worth of publicity.
