The good thing about Free Agency and Delisted Free Agents are clubs do not have to make wholesale changes to a list to top it up. Gone are the days of having to cut a fair chunk of the list and trade actively to strengthen a list.

We are playing this smart. Players like Elton, Dea, McDonough, Arnot should all be established senior players in the next couple of years replacing players like Chaplin, Newman, Foley and Jackson. We are putting more money into a recruiting and development resources and we are starting to see rewards. We have players running around in our VFL side who have the capability to come straight in and play AFL if we need to.

We have not been in this position for many, many years. We are no longer in the drastic changes phase, but rather the safe approach in signing players through DFA and rookie lists to strengthen our list, whilst having faith in those already on it.

We do not need to trade and delist a heap of players. Doing so at this point would just set us back. We are at the stage now where the draft is to supplement and strengthen our list, not rebuild it.

All the players we locked in are good honest toilers. Some have potential while others are just depth players. I hope they don't elevate Thomas early unless we have a major injury to an inside mid. I find the most interest this year will come from the Mc's & Eltons development. I hope they force their way into the side and embrace that opportunity when they get it!
