Shouldn't stop you from responding to the first part of my post? How else are they supposed to fill a side? By taking VFL and WAFL players?
I didn't respond to the rest of your post because it was a strawman.

I said exactly nothing about how they should or should not have built their teams. If you read it instead of skimming it you'll see all I ever commented on was the attitude of supporters wrt to the process.

I am one poster who regards it as a compliment when offers are made to players coming off contract. If nothing else North have shown a lot of respect to Kelly and his ability as a player and to our clubs system indirectly in developing him. Not entirely welcome of course but nevertheless.
I see that as entirely consistent with regarding a thread about a trade of a first year player as nonsense. We are not going to trade him unless we get a completely ridiculous offer. I have confidence in the Demons club not to make such an offer.
I dont see the inconsistency. One player is coming off contract and can choose to leave, the other is not until the end of 2018.

Where were we meant to get our players from?

Birthing tanks like the Vic Clubs did at their inception.

Expansion clubs always looking for shortcuts

Don't understand why people are getting so offended about the prospect of a trade. FFS we had about 15 Hogan threads last year and we discussed his trade value rather than the 'will he won't he' stuff. We can't control if the player leaves but we can give estimations of their worth.
Hogan was in the final year of his contract though.
Taranto isn't.

Uncontracted player speculation makes sense.
It's rare for a 1st year player to move clubs.

Actually there were a heap of Hogan threads in when he had 2 years to run on his contract.

But the point is that it happens for all clubs

Draftees pretty much never leave in year 1. Considering they rated him enough to use pick #2 on him GWS wouldn't let him leave so easily.
Don't think this thread will amount to much.
