Time for a change - Our cheersquad is too working class

I have been thinking about this for a while and I am firmly of the view that they are not paying their way.

As a kid I used to sometimes stand with them at away games. Great group of people. I remember them in 1990 they had a core group of young professionals.

The trouble is it has been taken over by a group of toothless uneducated people from the bad end of town.

I suggest we all write to the club and recommend they be revoked of their privileges for 2008 (access to the best seats etc) until they become democratic and are no longer an embarassment. Most of all want to see some color and noise.

Club allocates 500 seats together - you have to apply - seek to keep out the riff raff.

Get younger people involved and get some artistic types to work on the banner.

From the new swaud Eugene oversees election of a committe and then from that group a president.

I will go one step further as i agree with most of this. Why dont the club invite 20 30 50 school kids each week from a different school to stand in the cheer squad and see what footy is like and incourage them to follow the black and white. The kids can mix with some of the more decent cheer squad members. Ages of say 7 to 12 years old. Different school each week. Boot the crap out and invite the good back in. There is a reason i agree with this, its simply the age factor. Probably find anyone over 30 will agree with the comments raised in this thread.

I agree with the intent of the post. Whilst I think the current Cheersquad is very passionate about Collingwood it also represents the core example given that all Collingwood supporters are bogans.

When people think of Collingwood they all think of Joffa and whilst none can deny he's a passionate and tireless supporter of Collingwood...the public PR is not really the best.

I was on the committee of the Collingwood Cheer Squad at that time and I'm a quality person! I have no idea what the current members are like now though.

Pretty harsh assessment although I can sort of see your point.

The thing with Collingwood supporters is that there are so many and come from a very wide cross-section of society. The 'image' that the football public love to hold onto is certainly Joffa and the bogan element, so maybe a PR exercise by the club would fix that, although who are we trying to impress: ourselves or other supporters? If the latter, then I say stuff them!

It used to be that the only time we got worried was when they didn't hate us enough.

The CS come off as being working class and that's where the club came from. Who do we want to change that image for?
