What do you guys reckon, he's been underperforming and if we drop him we could -

  • Leave Van Berlo in the team and recall Welsh
  • Recall one of Bode, Schuback or Knights all who are in good SANFL form
  • or Call up Watts who is in great SANFL form!

Also dropping Radar might give him a bit of a wake up call.

I actually reckon the quality of Reilly's performances this year have been severly reduced by his lack of gametime.

He was pretty good last night given his lack of time (couldn't be more than 55mins) on the ground. He used the ball very well as always, showed some dash and looked like he wanted to be out there.

The question is whether NC wants him to be out there for more than half of the match. For christ sake, the kid's 21 (same age as Hodge) and should be getting at least three-quarters. :o

The only one who should come out of the team this week is The Count, and that's only because he was given about 2 minutes of the ground. He did beat Laycock in a contest however. :)

That's the spirit - let's start talking about all the players to drop after a fifteen goal win ...

I have to agree with this. Burton is stealing Reillys spot.

No, it's as Craig said - look for constant improvement.

Geelong have problems with small, pacey crumbing forwards. Schuback fits that. Skipworth is slow, cumbersome and a short kick.

Play to expose Geelong's weaknesses. Play Schuback.

Is this the same Schuback who's been on out list since the last century?

'Spose we should find out at some stage what he's got ...

Yes. If we're going to delist, we need to see what he can do first, and he consistently kicks goals for Glenelg.

He has pace, a beautiful long left-foot kick and good crumbing. Everything Skippy doesn't have, and everything we need.

Wasn't he dropped at the Bays? And why does everyine still get on Skippy - he seems to do his job.

Pity that girl who was the Skippy fan isn't on here anymore ...

Schuback just kicked 4 goals for the Bays yesterday.

Skippy does his job, but he is getting exposed more and more as the pressure on him gets greater - can't kick very far, has no pace and does these little backturns every time he gets the ball which gives the opposition time to get back.

He may be doing OK, but if we are looking to become a good team, we must exploit opposition weaknesses and not allow potential weak links like Skippy regular gametime. I'd rather pursue the greater upside of Schuback.

I've always maintained that Reilly isn't the player that many on these boards insist he is, but yes, he has been hurt by a lack of gametime recently. The question is, what has changed since the start of the season that has seen Craig lose faith in him?

While we're seeing his peers - Thompson, Mattner, Skipworth, Rutten, Bock - really step up and take their opportunities by the throat, Radar is still ****ing about looking for the handball receive. It doesn't get any better when you see some of his 2001 first round peers - Judd, Ball, Hodge, Dal Santo - dominating the league at present.

Tradebait with a capital-T.

Some very strange comments in this thread.

It's pretty simple really. Last year Reilly played across HB and got full games and his form reflected that.

This year he's joined a mid-field that has Roo, Goodwin, Thompson, Edwards, Shirley and McLeod in it, plus cameos from Doughty and Skipworth. He's being used as a fill-in mid-fielder while the big guns get their breath back.

The down side is that he gets a few minutes a quarter, and when you do that week after week your form invariably suffers.

I still think he's doing okay but just doesn't get enough game time to make a major impact on the game.

I can't agree with the idea that Reilly is trade-bait. Roo, Goody, Macca and Edwards only have 2 to 3 years in the middle, so we'll need him to take up the slack when that day comes.

As for talk of Schuback in the middle .....pffftttttt!! He's not a mid-fielder's backside. It's HFF or nothing with Schuback IMO.

That's why I said. Replace Skipworth. Pacy forward-line crumber.

LOL...To the people who think Reilly hasnt had much game time; it'll dawn on you soon as to why. :p

LOL... Reilly had 70 minutes on Saturday night.

I think people need to be careful not to mistake lack of form for lack of opportunity. Reilly has played OK when he has been on the ground but the problem is that he isn't spending a lot of time on the ground.

Against the bombers he played 70 out of the 122 minuted for 10 touches, 3 inside 50s, 2 clearences and 3 tackles. He only played 57% of the game. When he actually got the ball he used it very well and set up a couple of goals with his long direct kicking.

I don't know why he isn't getting much game time but we can't say he is out of form because he is generally performing OK when he is on the ground.

And spinny, don't mistake Schuback for a crumber because he isn't one. Skippy is much better at reading the ball off the hands than Schuback is. Of 4 goals that Schuback kicked yesterday, 2 were from marks, one was from a handball receive and the other one was a genuine crumb.

Just because he has the size and pace of a crumber doesn't make him a crumber. He is a good HFF who can kick the ball an absolute mile and has pace to burn. He should get an opporunity sometime this year but not at the expense of Skippy who keeps performing.

DT Craig hasn't lost faith - fact is his HBF role has been taken this year by Macca and Tourney - would you suggest Reilly replace either one of these? - I wouldn't.

The wings are occupied by Mattner (best season with the club) and Burton whose running abilities to cover defensively and offensively is better than Reilly.

Fact is ATS Reilly is part of the midfield rotation coming off the bench - I have no problems with this, he's doing an admirable job when he comes on - should he be dropped because of Craigs successful midfield structure - Off course not ;)
