Time to look forward

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

#15 means we're likely to draft one of the better local talents which spares us all this homesick crap (maybe Harry Miller).
3 picks in the 30s should bag us a couple of future league players (maybe Craig Parry)
Salary cap savings means we should be able to run a full list (see from KD's item that Patfull has already been promoted. Good news, almost like getting a recruit after all).

Feel free to join in.

The carry-on effects of no Stevens means Kane and Dom can get a run as midfielders, not taggers. It also means that Salopek and Ebert can get a good taste.

We didn't trade for a dud.

We can frontload a few contracts for a season so that we can have a good run at poaching someone else's player next year.

We definitely don't need to delist any more players. Koula gets lucky again.

Damn straight! We didn't trade for overpriced flankers. Thats a big positive I'd forgotten.

We also now have the novelty of there being a player to boo more than Buckley.

34 for Morgan is alright. Thats more than I expected.

39 for Guerra is less than i expected but passable.

Nothing for Stevens....i dunno...would have been nice to get something for him, but im proud we stood tall and didnt let him dictate how to run our club. Only problem is...he may end up at Collingwood in the PS draft anyway.

I thought she said that he will be kept on...meaning on the rookie list...which also can only happen until after the draft.

Patfull will be kept, although I'm unclear as to whether he'll be promoted or stay on the RL for another year. Sorry for any confusion, but I'll let you know if I'm told anything. He's a good kid and the club has certainly given him a lot of confidence.

Plus he's a Norwood boy, so I'm not complaining.. ;)

I honestly don't think Harry MIller is a top 15 prospect.

I think you guys would get someone like Beau Waters/Josh Willoughby/Tim Schmidt.

Morgan Trade = Port wins
Guerra was a deadset steal for Saints IMHO. I would have definetly expected more for him. He will be a gun.

Stevens is a w@nker and I take my hat off to Port for not letting the little **** push you around. Short term pain for long term gain

I'll bow to your better judgement. What can I say, I have black and white blinkers. Although looking at Willoughby's stats, he appears a bit small. Choco seems to have given up on those guys since the days of Morton/D Murray/Bode.

I was thinking Port may look at a young KPP early on, given Paxman and Morgan are gone and all I've ever seen Champion do is run laps.

Hey I am no expert either but 174 cm forawrd pocket/half forward flanker is very unlikely to go top 15. I think he should get drafted and I really like the kid. Willoughby is small but he is a bloody good footballer. If that kid was around 180 cm mark he would go top 10.

Possibly but so are at least 10 other clubs. If Waters was available at 15, it would be a shame to pass him up. That kid is a tough as nails. That kid's got balls.

Standing up for our principles re Stevens has helped remove some of the pain of this years finals series.

I agree we should only look forward now.

I look forward to N.Stevens doing a cruciate Round 1.

I look forward to MMM sacking M. Stevens after noone tunes in to their broadcasts while he is a part of the team.

I look forward to making Collingwood our bitches next year.

Hmm how many days until Round 1.

My mail is that at an official jumper presentation mid-season, Koula stood up and threatened to burn the Power jumper, such is his dislike for the club. Over-the-top? Maybe, but I can't see him playing senior footy for us and I think he realises this. I have also heard that he has already indicated plans to play in the VFL next season. Considering a pretty average effort in the SANFL finals for Westies I don't think he is a loss. (Source: another footy supporter who gets to alot of official functions)

We must elevate Ebert and Salopek - they have qualites that Stevens for one, lacks. Damon White must get a trial as well. Players often lift to a new level when exposed to AFL footy compared to producing average efforts at SANFL. I only hope Jars is a better coach at developing White and Gilham than Hart was for Morgan.

Kane Cornes must either get a running commision off half-back or become a more constructive midfielder. Shaun Burgoyne can't be left to become lazy in a forward pocket. If ever a kid needs a challenge he does. Why not run him through the midfield and use him to match up on the likes of Koutoufides, Headland and Hird when we play against them?

Agreed. Or Josh Krueger, considering the overrating of talls in the draft and trades these days.

Willoughby might well slip to our 2nd-3rd round bonanza (four picks from 30 to 46). Miller should do. Parry definitely will. And of course, there's always a good chance that there'll be another Cassisi/Grima type dropping a lot lower than expected.

Well maybe you should wonder why he hates the club so much. For one I am not ****ing surprised if that's true, and I think I would have heard about it if it was.

And if you call his finals effort 'average' I suggest next year you actually watch them. Oh, and when you take into account that he was coming off injury which is why his first quarter back was a little down and then he got back to decent form and was actually named in the best in the Grand Final.

The last time I saw (and said a passing hello to) Beau Waters, he had an eerie Barry Hall thing going on.

The shaved head, the build, the voice, the earring, and if that's anything to go by he'd be well worth the pickup, IMO. Built like a brick ****house and is a damn good player to boot.

Koulagirl, like you, I am not surprised that Paul dislikes the club. Based on form this year especially, opportunities should have come his way more often to play in the Power side. Unfortunately like Scott Bassett and Adam Morgan (and I hope not like Cain Ackland and Damon White), Koula's time at Port was marked by inopportune injuries breaking his momentum just when a berth in the team looked likely. However, players who allow their bodies to stand up to the rigors of senior footy are the ones whose careers flourish. Is it surprising that poor old Scotty Bassett so far has suffered similar problems at the Doggies with injury as he did with us?

Before you jump down my throat, I did watch his finals games very closely because I wanted to see what we might be letting go of. What I noticed were some individual passages of play which were very eyecatching, eg pass to Bradshaw late in first quarter of GF, excellent goal on the run in 3rd quarter. However, we are talking about an AFL-listed player who, injured or not, should have been capable of stamping a more consistent influence on the game. Finishing 5th or 6th in a losing side's best players does not constitute a dazzling effort when you believe you warrant a place in a finals AFL side. Likewise I was not as impressed by Cassisi's GF as I would have hoped to be. He did play well in the Prelim, but I am yet to be convinced that Dom has that quality to make him a Premiership-standard player at AFL. Maybe I expect too much.

i think you mean round 3.

On to looking forward.

Things I want to see next year:

Wizard cup midfield consisting of: Salopek, Ebert, S Burgoyne and Wilbur (for protection).

Damon White (TAV) at Full forward.

Stephen Paxman testimonial game, including lap of honor.

Adam Kingsley ruck interpretation: If you take the ball out of the ruck, you have to throw it in a random direction and duck and weave simultaneously.

Drafting another too slow, cant hack it midfielder, and turning them into a machine (Francou, meet Kellet)

Andrew Jarman teaching Gilham some responsibility.

Chris Hall and Stewart Dew fighting over longest raking kick for goal at the G against Collingwood.

WGT getting his 4th consecutive AA CHF jumper, only to be derided as worse than Brown or Whitnall.

The thrust shaking off any pretense of intensity and wandering around with no concern ala fraser.

The Mattress returning to lead the club with pure strength.

Lade, Brogan and Matty swapping through the SANFL to retain their fitness, without whining. No coincidence that the best performed ruckman of the last few finals series has missed most of the season.

J Carr, D Cassisi, K Cornes being entirely and completely removed from tagging duties. Give Cochrane a job and let the rest attack.

Peter Burgoyne earning his degree in nuclear physics, with special tutoring from John Riley.

Cain Ackland showing that he is worthwhile.

Roger James warming to his task in late August. Don't care if he plays before round 15.

Goalkicking from outside 50 becoming our trademark again. It was disgraceful this year.

Winning games 20 goals to 17 instead of 12 to 10. Mark says he wants to kick 20 goals every week. Prove it.

Gav playing forward. Gav is a machine. Let him go out in style instead of having him crushed to buggery.

Hardwick and Choppy having contracts that come to less than their legal fees for onfield discretions.

Being the first team to crush the Subi fortress again. If only we got to play freo over there this year.

Getting an away final first up, clearing all pressure and nailing some unfortunate favorite.

Pasting teams again, none of this relaxing and preparing crap.

Continuing the camry streak.

Performing well against our nemesi, namely Melbourne and the Kangaroos.

Some more Stephen Paxman tribute stuff.

Spending all preseason watching us get flogged live, then missing 6 of our first 7 home games due to prior commitments like friends getting inconsiderately married.

going to Darwin.

Bucket Seats.

Matthew Bishop taking mark of the year, then retiring before realising he doesnt get a car.

A draftee being given oppurtunity to shine in his first season.

Jarrad Schofield firming in the betting for the next Governer of SA.

Che running for parliament under the 'no camries' platform.

Poults getting caught holding the ball, but no-one cares because he is at least belting someone.

Cochrane being taught how to blanket buckley. Maybe he should get some tapes that show how eddie does it.

Darryl giving Lloyd a bath, but being cut up by Digby Morrell.

Montgomery playing loose man in the middle.

MCG contract actually mattering.

Whinging about how Richmond sent thugs at us.

Injuries. Pray tell how Koula was injured mid-season when the Power had the most injuries for a year and there was only one player left not named in the 25.
Also last year... when he just ran around in the West Adelaide reserves (blame Borchard) and just pretty much got bored out of his ****ing brain.
From someone who claims to know so much I would've expected something other than the standard response.

Excuse me for not fitting down your throat the first time.
What I noticed in the finals is Paul running around loose practically pleading for the ball but West kicking to a contest. He was let down by the team and it's my belief that all who were named in the best were close enough to equal.
And when you look at the Power's finals side I think maybe even Joe Bloggs in the Timbuktu soccer thirds would've gotten a guernsey.
Oh, and he was fourth best in the Grand Final.

Great stuff Port01 but these were the four points I loved the best.
We have to be ruthless when we have sides down.

Please, Choco, let us not see players taking possession and having as their first reaction a look to the side or back for the short pass.

Do not reinvent the wheel! Successful finals sides play conventionally. Your father and Jack showed the Maggies how to do this for many years. It was Fos Williams who responded to the question of whether we could be successful (in 1996 when the club's AFL nickname and colours were unveiled) by asking
"Do we have a ruckman? Do we have a full forward and is he ready to play?"
Yes we have ruckmen. But who will take responsibility for being near the goal-square when we go the long route home? Tredders is too good at CHF and can kick goals playing that position. We need someone strong, tall and accurate at goal-kicking who knows that his job is to do what Lloyd and Lynch do. Roaming 191cm forwards up and down the wings to half-back is not my idea of playing a key position and I would be disappointed if that is how such players are being asked to play by the coaches.

Oh, and he was fourth best in the Grand Final.

What the hell was he doing running around loose? There were hard balls to get and rampaging opponents to pick up. Let's be slightly objective here.
Oh sorry about underselling him. FOURTH best changes everything.

Excuse me for not going into detail. He broke away from his player, led, was ignored, and went back. Cicolella couldn't keep up with him.

Yeah, yeah it does doesn't it? Would you like his stats as well, or shall I just pleasantly say I think you're wrong about him and I'd like you to shut up now?
