I know its round one, but surely after the performance against Hawthorn, the pre-season and year 2007 the signs are evident that it is time to re build and Dean Bailey is the man to do it:

* Nietz will retire

* Yze will either retire or be delisted- its his last year on his current contract

* Holland (dont know why he was kept on the list) wheatley, chris johnson, warnock, and at least one of Paul Johnson or Jamar must all be in contention to be delisted as well.

* Miller and Carroll are also skating on thin ice.

* Brad Green must be traded for a 10-20 draft pick in the same way TJ was traded, we must get rid of our senior underperforming players who still have value for young guns in order for the re building process to work.

* Weetra, Bode and Garland all need to show signs of improvement although there young enough to be assured spots on the list.

* Players such as White, Mcdonald and Robbo are passing 30 yrs of age but have been good servants of the club and deserve to be placed in the side untill the form doesnt warrant it anymore, they dont have much value left and can be used to develop our younger players.

* Wonnamerri and valenti both already show promising signs of being promoted

Starting Side of 2009 IMO:(Not including trades and new draft picks of coarse) Young developing players may also crack into the side but this is it for now:

FB Whelan Frawley Bartram
HB Bell Rivers Petterd
C Bruce Mclean Sylvia
HF Dunn Bate Morton
FF Davey Newton Robertson
R White Mcdonald Jones

I Moloney Grimes Meeson Buckley

THOUGHTS?

i agree to a certain extent i dont think paul johnson should be delisted i felt he was 1 of the stand outs 4 us yesterday he chased and tried hard all day this is what i would like 2 see happen

brad green back 2 forward line
davey back 2 forward line(unless wonaemirri can be promoted we lack the defensive pressure)
we need 2 persist with kids and give them a game i feel this year is about seeing where this list is at there is going 2 be a lot of changes at years end and lets be honest where not a finals team at the moment

I agree with everything you have said. I think Miller may have turned the corner though.

Why stop at Green, throw Cam Bruce into the deal and we could maybe get a top 5 pick for both of them??

Also my side for 2011 is.....

B: Bell Frawley Rivers

HB: Grimes Miller Bartram

C: Sylvia Moloney Petterd

HF: Morton Bate Davey

F: P.Johnson Newton Maric

R: Jamar/Messesn McLean Jones

I: Garland Buckley Bode Dunn

Couldnt split Jamar and Meesen, havnt seen enough of Martin to put him in.

I for one have supported the Melbourne footy club for thirty one years and I wont be watching a side that comes out and expects supporters to pay to watch them embrass themselves and insult the very jumper they wear ,ask yourself where was the pride in the jumper ? where was the passion of 150 years of playing ?
We have to many players that should not be in the side???!!! YZE (OUT)--NEITZ (OUT) -- MILLER (OUT) -- WHEATLEY (OUT) -- BELL (OUT), there just not up to it! how many chances does miller get?? im baffled i thought he shouldnt be in the team 4 years ago! Neitz is an exception, only in the team because of respect, but lets face it ppl he is a very weak forward and respect doesnt win you matches! We should also trade Sylvia, he's given us nothing at all! lets get rid of him while we can get something 'alright' for him! I never thought we were going to have a good season this year, i'm all up for the re-building process... Honelstly who cares if we get the spoon, yeah it'll be a hard year but we will also get 'Natanui, a genuis that will defiantly be the no.1 draft pick!

Something has to be done down at that footy club!!! lets start by being realists, and start chopping some old warts

Trading Green is a good idea as we hav that many talented midfielders coming through. I would strongly advise against trading Cam Bruce tho as he is a quality player that, when needed, can play almost anywhere. As far as the team for 2009 goes - if Frawley starts at Full Back in the games FF's today, then 2009 may as well be a rebuilding year as well. Just because of his bloodline and the fact he was a first round pick proves nothing. In the few games Ive seen him play, I would reconsider placing him on a forward flanker, let alone a full forward

2009 number 1 + 2 pick
2010 number 1 + 2 pick

As good as Neitz was you need to go when your past it. Lockett will always be remembered for not getting a kick in his last game.

my 25 i would play next week
if no injuries and supensions etc

B: grimes frawley morton
HB: pettard rivers bell
C: sylvia mclean buckley
HF: bartram newton dunn
FF: davey bate johnson*

R: meesen* moloney jones

Int(fRom): jamar*, miller, c johnson ,weetra, warnock, maric, bode

* 3 way change out of the goalsquare

what do yous rekon if you where rebuildin you probably will finish last this year on last game so you cant go any futher down so this will be an ideal rebuilding side ?

That would be an ideal way to ruin any confidence in a club and make sure you don't win a game in years. Mods can we red card this guy for asking 'what do yous rekon' - this isn't the collingwood or bulldogs board.

i believe the best option for the Dees is to do exactly what Alistair Clarkson did, he got rid of his rubbish and got all young guns and developed them.

Alistair Clarkson VERY underated coach

Considering Bate and Grimes are injured i dont think they will playing next week and judging by Jamars kicking last season, there is no point in playing him up forward.

We are already rebuilding.

Getting rid of Green is stupid, he is only 27 this year but wouldn't get the kind of trade that would make a difference anyway. We need some experience. Get rid of Moloney, he's a w***er and always over kicks the ball. At least Green is a doer and was better than most on Sunday against Hawthorn.

Our midfiled is nowherere near as good as many people say it is, a bigger worry than first thought. Valenti on rookie list and 21 this year! - stupid, needs game time now! yet Warnock, Holland taking senior spots.

Neitz and Holland will retire and going by Junior Mac, after round 1 I think his body has taken too many hits and been under too many piles over the years. I doubt Junior Mac will play the year out.

Martin needs to be put in a pocket ASAP. 198 cm and 22 this year, he is the exact kind of player we need in the future and is at a mature age. If they want to pussyfoot around with other youngsters I don't care as long as they get their priorities right first.

30,000 members has been pissed up against the wall.

Bode needs to be played, he is a confidence player and if he is no good then we need to know early along with a few others.

Green did jack shit on Sunday, apart from standing outside the packs, at least Moloney got his arse in there and made an effort.

Green undertook the role that was put on him by the coach. That was to sweep off half back and where possible help in the middle. Green is also versatile up forward kicking 2 goals on the weekend. Of the senior players he was one of few who stuck to his task.

Moloney on the other hand was given an opportunity in the middle but he did not use his head. There is no question that Moloney tries hard, is gutsy and had a different role to Green but as an experienced player he is too much of a loose canon. Personally I think that Moloney tries too hard some times and as a result he gives away frees and misses targets all too often. He needs to use his brain a bit more. I concede that he has had his fair share of injuries and that his best footy is maybe still ahead of him but I stand by my comment at this point in time (although I retract the bit about getting rid of him, that was harsh). At the end of the day he could be very effective for us as he does tackle and get the ball but he doesn't hurt the opposition when he uses the ball. Like with PJ I hope I am proved wrong this year.
