I think its time to play the young kids...you might say well we can still make the finals but thats wrong if no changes are made, what we are doing now clearly isnt working. Time to play Taylor Walker in place of Jerico and time to bring Trent back in as soon as he is over his injury. Play Stiffy up forward but leave him there all game....leaving the kick ins to Bock or Truck. Give Dangerfield a run off a half back or half forward line to see what he has and bring some change and enthusiasm back. Possibly play Ben Rutten up forward if you dont bring in the Young kids....you have to do something different to what is currently happening because it just isnt good enough.

We are too proud of a footy club to give up on making the finals and experiment with a whole lot of youngsters. This is our problem and it is why we are behind the 8 ball as we refuse to accept it. We keep saying we will push to the very end to make the finals. Its silly to be talking finals in the current shape we are. We should now be looking forward to 2009 and start managing our playing group towards that.

Spot on.

You're all ****ing sooks.

5 weeks ago tanking would never have entered your mind. Suddenly 4 games are lost to good sides and 1 to an average side who was playing their grand final and our whole club's philosophy is shot:rolleyes:

People constantly forget that there is much to be said for building a winning culture. Richmond don't have it, St Kilda, Freo don't have it, they are messed up clubs from administration through to playing groups. Perhaps we are best serving our young guys by allowing them to ply their trade in the SANFL. Perhaps we are best serving Pat Dangerfield as a player and a person by not pulling out to play AFL in the middle of his last year of studies. Perhaps its not such a bad thing to have to much pride to bottom out.

Your telling me that the last 5 weeks are acceptable because we were 8-3 before that? We should have won 3, possibly 4 of those games. Should never have lost against Hawthorn, Brisbane & Port. Had our opportunities against Collingwood but sadly we lost 2 of our best players and had to fight it out for the rest of the game. Only the Geelong game i can fully accept as they are on a different planet than any other team at the moment. Both Hawthorn & Brisbane were underman and we still couldn't win. And who cares if Port were playing their GF? What about us? Wasn't that like an Elimination final for us?

If this acceptable than we will always be a club only striving for 8th spot and just happy to make the numbers come September.

So going by your logic had the same group of people won those games you wouldn’t be making all these rant posts?

If you believe the club was good enough to beat those sides then what is the point of radically changing it ?

We won’t tank, I hope we battle to the end- I’ll take 9th spot anyday over 16th

Nah you're right, we should win every game we play in and if not we should start making drastic changes to our team, coaching staff and general club philosophy:rolleyes:

Losses happen, this time they've happened in a big bunch. I mean FFS, we've been operating without a forward line for the last 1 and a half weeks.

I agree Jo. And I wouldnt want NC coaching us if he is willing to give up on finals or to ever tank a game. I would like to see NC pick some kids this week and til the end of the year and give them big roles, whilst still demanding our team to win. Pick Mackay, Otten, Petrenko instead of Shirley, Massie and Jericho.

Keep Shirley and Massie, we might want some players capable of giving defensive pressure if we're to win games but by all means ditch Jericho.

1st - we didn't win those games. Thats the point i'm making. The past weeks have proven we aren't good enough. This was always going to be our testing period of the season and sadly we haven't come up to scratch.

2nd - I did beleive the club was good enough to win those games. We led 95% of the game against Hawthorn and had the chances to bury them but we didn't. Brisbane were so poor (i was at that game) and undermaned and we let them off the hook too.

3rd - I know we wont tank. Its not part of the AFC culture, hence why we are the only club never to have a top 5 draft pick.

Why can't we have that attitude? Why should we be content with losing the close game here and there? Look i know you can't win everyweek but losing games when they should be won is not good enough. How many goals have we averaged a game over the past 5 rounds? Why all of a sudden have we gone back under our shells? The team we had on the park yesterday should have beaten Port. I know there was no Birdman or Porps but we've been in worse situations in the past and have managed to win those sort of games.

Adelaide needs to begin winning, experiementing with all the young guys is not the answer. The problem at the moment is simple. The team has lost its confidence as evident in Johncocks kick ins. This also translates to going in for the ball, if you lack the confidence that there will be support you approach the ball differently.

Adelaide's kicking is shocking, most contested marking situations our players kick to the DISADVANTAGE of their team mate, this is made even worse in the forward lines. Most of the goals against Port were not marked kicks. For Goodwin, Jericho, Moran, Stevens, Douglas, most of the kicks were on their heads or too wide. I remeber seeing Jericho in the first quarter when he was forward make 3-4 leads and not one of the kicks were to his advantage, all on top of his head for Pettigrew to hit away.

Rotating forward line, this is not an answer, Craid needs to settle this area down. Gill, Moran, Jericho & Stevens playing in the same positins each week as HF, FF, pocket and HF Flank. Leave them there for the rest of the year. Walker won't be played by the looks, Henchtel is a while off, Sellar still developing, Tippett has lost all confidence. This constant change in forward strucutre means the players don't know where to kick. Look at Hawthorn, the play the same each week and win, same with Bulldogs. Yes they have some more fire power but a settled forward line may produce some goals.

Basically Adelaide needs to win again befoire we blood too many youngsters into a side that has lost the winning feeling

Nothing unreasonable with expecting to win every game, in fact it's what we should be doing.

However, when people begin taking issue with a few losses and start suggesting deep structural problems due to a natural consequence of football.

And if the team we had on the field yesterday should have beaten Port why is it time to roll the dice? Surely this is a one-off and will soon be rectified.

Time will tell.

I'm not saying we tank. I just think we need to start developing our playing list so come Round 1 2009, we won't be having a bunch of players on our list who have yet to taste an AFL game.

I think we need to start playing more kids before the year is out. Instead of recycling the Jerichos, Massies, Mcgregors etc, why not give Walker, Kite and Otten a run. And by a run i dont mean 20% game time, give these kids the chance to perform, give them the opportunity and if they start sinking, then atleast by years end they know what standard they need to be at to succeed at AFL, and can work towards this in the offseason.

I think its clear that we will definetely will be making up the numbers if we make the finals, so instead of finishing 6-8th with with a bunch of mediocre middle-to-older age players, lets take the risk of finishing 8-10th by playing our future.

The worst thing that could happen would be to finish in the lower half of the 8, but atleast were giving our future some experience. The next draft is said to have 25 players who are all first-round material. If we finish in the lower half of the 8, we'd potentially have the ability to pick up 2 a-grade players for the future. And with this being the last oppotunity to stock up on quality for a number of years, it is a crucial, crucial draft.

What im trying to say is that if we start investing game-time into our future, we cant lose.

Well done on a great post this for me sums it up superbly.

Our strength to all ways be the best is also our weakness,it is time to see what we have got forget about 08 it has been gone for 2-3 weeks now.To be a top side we need a forward or 2 i remember leaving the 02 Prelim saying we are a key forward away from making a GF 2008 and still no forward. And dont look like getting one every one says we have one but according to Craig no where near playing.

Time to get Walker in for 1-2 games as well as Dangerfield Otten and who ever else is close to making it forget about 08 now or we can almost forget about 09 now

But NC thinks we can salvage the season.. Why do we want to play youngsters when we can still make it ?
