Time To Trade Deledio.

Woopey doo we get 2 more years of this (probably snap his Achilles soon anyway as we're playing him into the ground)

Yeah cause a guy who played close to 200 games without missing any will be finished by the age 29. Would be stuid to trade Lids he will go until he is 35 and you won't get anything near his worth.

Why would you want to do that? You can get mundy for free as he is a free agent. I thought He was better than Mundy?
(you're on the Richmond board, stop taking things seriously. Half of our posters have missing chromosomes. Logic isn't widely accepted as the right way forward around here)

Mighn't be far off it.

The time to trade Lids was probably when Omeara was available getting him back later.

Now it is doubtful you would necessarily get his worth unless it is a particularly good deal for Lids and RFC.

After GWS blundered on Heath Shaw can't see the trade opportunities appearing now.

I can handle Lids running around for us in the next 8 years:D

No. But I would trade him for Fyfe in a heartbeat. Maybe also add in our 2nd rounder and you can throw in Lachy Neal too.

When can anyone tell me was the last game you can remember Delidio grabbing the game by the balls and wining us a game?? I seriously can't remember....

He is a front runner and his trade value will never be higher. How about this club be a bit more pro active for once and make some hard decisions like we should have when Frawley finished up and Wallace came to the club and we should have off loaded blokes like Bowden and probably Gasper for picks, but no we signed them on multi year deals for big coin.

The amount of similarities I can see between the early 2000's and now is scary. Over paying of so called stars..... Recruiting way to many recycled duds from other clubs....

Agree. He has been a great servant but he aint gunna be any better than he is now. Unfortunately we have seen the best of lids. Trade him for Fyfe. Freo love old players.

Why trade for Fyfe when you can get him down the track via FA. The other thing with Fyfe is at some stage he could easily go back to WA and what is the salvage value?

Trading Lids should have nothing to do with Fyfe or any other FA medium term candidates

He is only 22. We may have to wait a while. Still more than 3 years to FA

I enjoy your humour... But in all seriousness Fyfe is a country WA boy, he wont leave freo. Your team has a better chance in Getting mundy. Mundy would improve your team a fair bit. he is on the final year of a 4 year contract worth $600,000 a year. Only question is are you willing to pay upwards of $800,000 to a million to get him.

Someone should lock this. Bunch of plebs carrying on in every thread on the forum about our lack of foot skills, and they want to trade our best kick who also happens to be the only one in the team that can do it with both feet.

Can't wait for the threads about trading Martin when he's 27 and 'finished'.

Maybe we can form a side in a breakaway league - AFL under 28s. Too bad the 28 refers to years of age, not IQ level, otherwise this forum would be able to field a pretty strong side.

May as well trade him now. Get something in case the following doesn't happen - No way in hell if fit, will he renew his contract at Richmond. He'll chase a premiership at another club, and most likely will get one.

Been said before by many, and I'll say it again - would have been one of the best to play this game, had he played at a different club.

Disagree with this. Has all the talent in the world but doesn't have that super competitive mindset to be up there with Ablett and co.

I agree. He is not a match winner. He has done it occasionally, but he hasn't done it more than 3 or 4 times over 200 games. It's just not the type of player he is.

Martin, on the other hand, is a match winner. Well, he is while someone else is getting the hard tag. That is the value Deledio has for us.

That, versatility to play anywhere on the ground and durability.

If we can get all of that, and a game winning type in a trade, then go for it. But I don't think Ablett or Bartell are available.

It's not a ridiculous idea, so the hysterics of some are completely unwarranted.
It's clear we don't have the abundance of talent needed to get us a premiership in our current list. At some point we're going to have to make some hard decisions and retake that 'Ruthless Tigers' mantle.
If you can trade a big name player just after they've reached their apex and bring in a couple of talented youngsters you've potentially saved yourself a couple of years or circling the drain. At the moment we're chasing our tails praying for that one boom draft that runs deep to sets us up instead of proactively securing top picks. There are teams who have done this recently and are already looking like overtaking us.

Wasn't this idea tossed around when GC/GWS had their mini draft picks? I think that boat has passed.

Even then, I wouldn't trade him, still think he can keep going until his early/mid 30s given he's been blessed with relatively few injuries. His skills and pace should allow him to stay relevant for a few seasons yet you'd think.

I'll admit though, it would be interesting to see what would happen if it did happen - would send out a pretty strong message to the playing group that no one is safe and that everyone has a price.

A strong message that if you decide to stick with the club when the chips are down, we will trade you as soon as we can get a better deal? Will do wonders for player loyalty. Good message!

That's a fair point mate but it's not like we are paying Deledio peanuts either. I'm sure if we didn't offer him a nice deal, he may have seriously considered leaving (I'll concede though that he did stay for less money that he could have probably got on the open market). Unfortunately, the game now is around player power and at the end of the day, money talks.

It's not the best example but Matty White heading to Port last year is just another example. He was/is a passionate Tiger's fan but when more security (3 year deal) and more money were offered (that we seemingly weren't prepared to match), he was off.

I'm not saying we shouldn't reward player loyalty and I'm glad we kept Lids (and I wouldn't trade him personally) but the point I was trying to make is that we are in the business to ultimately win premierships, not reward player loyalty. If a deal was offered where we could get closer to a premiership, you'd hope the powers that be would give it serious consideration and make a decision based on the merits rather than emotions.
