This is a hypothetical and Vader your probably best for this.
I'm not interested in the likelihood or anything, would just like to know.
Say Tippo negotiations with Sydney breakdown, Brissy jump in quickly and say we'd really like him we'll give you pick 8 but we cant fit him under the salary cap now that Moloney's with us.
AFC - well we've got $800k spare, how about you pay him 75%, we pay 25% of the contract.
Would the AFL allow this ?
Again just want to know the rule, not interested in "AFC would never do that" blah blah
It has happened in the past, but I believe only for players who had a contract still in play. No idea if a new contract could be drawn up in which the Crows agree to pay a portion of the salary for one of Brisbane's players.
Frankly, all this stuff about the "Bloods Culture" seems a mile overstated to me. I don't really think there is any such thing as the "Bloods Culture" - or if there is, it's a name for something pretty much every club in the league already has.
Sydney have not been as successful as they are because of some kind of mystical culture. They've been as successful as they are because they've been well managed, well coached, and their players have gotten the most out of themselves.

Personally I think if the swans can't get close then both parties should agree to walk away. Let Adelaide and Tippett get on with finding another buyer.
Yeah he should be on the goon bag, times are tough no concessions down here. These AFL players have to tighten their belts.Taylor Walker should be necking beers during the quarter breaks IMO.
West AdelaideMacca I poste this in another thread ....because iam struggling with the numbers myselfOne thing I am struggling with FAITH, or anyone else for that matter, is that we are talking about bringing new players into the club, but at the same time we seem to be re-signing virtually all of the players on our list.
The only players that I know of that won't there next year are Tippett, Knights, Doughty and Symes. That's 4 vacancies that I can think of.
Are there any more?
Crouch comes on the list. That leaves 3 vacancies, as long as we leave Cullinan on the Rookie list.
Giles and GHS appear to be trade-in targets. That only leaves one vacancy and there's no way we would be only having one pick in this draft.
Are we going to trade out players as part of our trades in? Are we going to pay Tambling out??
Can anybody please enlighten me on this apparent conundrum?
PS What is the contract status of Johncock, Otten, and McKernan
West AdelaideIsn't is mandatory to have 3 picks? Thanks for that, Paladin.
That means after we include Crouch there are only 3 vacancies and therefore 3 picks in the draft.
How are we going to trade players in without trading players out??
It wouldn't make sense to have less than 3 picks in this draft.
Isn't is mandatory to have 3 picks?
I wonder if it's different for us because of Crouch?
Rookie upgrades are technically picks too.Isn't is mandatory to have 3 picks?
West AdelaidePeople forgetting we get a compo pick for KnightsAhhhh, the extra veteran, which as you say gives us 4 vacancies after Crouch's addition to the list. Thanks, Vader.
It all gets very tight for draft picks if we bring players into the club plus there is pressure from Callinan and Laird for Upgrades from the Rookie list.
I can't see how we can afford to keep Tambling on the list - contract or no contract.
West AdelaideNo rookie upgrades in my calculations ...can't afford to?Rookie upgrades are technically picks too.
Isn't is mandatory to have 3 picks?
West AdelaideThen read my post 5620 and see where my calculations our out ......because i can't find enough draft picks to meet minimum UNLESS we trade some players outVader has summarised it all post 5531
EDIT: 5561
Good point.Armstrong was out of contract so he could have gone to the PSD.
That makes a lot of sense. I think an agreement will be made sooner than most expect so both clubs can get on with it. I don't think either club have anything to prove by playing bully boy at the trade table. What the club did was a more than reasonable trade. So what supporters say and what clubs do are two different things.
What I think is happening here is the swans are struggling to get what the crows think is fair value. The question is, if the swans can't get there will the deal fall over or will the crows accept a lessor offer. If Adelaide accept a lessor offer have they been "bent over" or is it just a poor deal.
There are people on this thread who think pick 2 and Giles would be fair whilst I've heard swans fans say pick 22 will do them. The thing I know is that Noble and Beatson will by now have a fair idea what the real number is going to be. How close the swans can get to it is yet to be seen.
Will Adelaide be "bent over". It will depend on what you thought the deal should have been.
Personally I think if the swans can't get close then both parties should agree to walk away. Let Adelaide and Tippett get on with finding another buyer.

ADELAIDE'S hopes of landing Heath Grundy, a Swan from South Australia, in exchange for Kurt Tippett have been quashed.
As trade talks between the Crows and Swans stagnated yesterday, Grundy's manager, Marty Pask, said the Croweater would not be involved in any Tippett move to Sydney.
West AdelaideAccording to team list on website ....we have 42 players inc Callinan & Mcintyreend of 2012 main list = 40
minus Doughty, Symes, Knights, Tippett, Callinan (to rookie)
plus Crouch
= 36
(therefore 4 vacancies)
(McIntyre was not part of that main list)
Lost;
Doughty
Tippett - will get player & pick or two picks???
Knights - will get compo pick
Symes
McIntyre - back to rookie
Callinan - ats back to rookie
Rutten - to veteran list
Reilly - to Veterans list
Gain
Crouch
West AdelaideNo you didn't read my post did youAs you said, can now have 40 on the list;
Start of play 2012: 38 senior + 1 veteran
Losses
Doughty (ret): 38 + 0
Rutten & Reilly (to vets): 36 + 2
Knights (FA): 35 + 2
Symes (delist): 34 + 2
Tippett (trade): 33 + 2
Gains
Crouch (upgrade): 34 + 2
- this will give 4 vacancies on our senior list.
- If we receive more than 1 player in the Tippett trade then we'll have to delist another player in order to meet the AFL's mandatory minimum of 3 list vacancies.
