The other reason GC would want a trade is they may want to use the PSD to grab another player

If we can give GWS permission to take Kurt in the PSD, and that eventuates, we wont be getting compensation for it. The thing is, we don't actually want that to happen, we just want to be able to use the threat of Kurt not getting where he wants to force GC to play ball at the trade table. Could be quite a threat too, because I severely doubt GC would like for their direct rival to be handed a player like Tippett for nothing.
Hang on. Assuming Vader is right and GWs can get him in the PsD with our permission, surely we are talking to GWS and saying how about we give you Joyce and a free shot at $Kurt for pick 1 and/or 2 of the 17 yo draft

For your sake I hope the clubs don't see it that way or you better get some lube

Simple proposition mate.

You guys play ball with us to get Kurt for a great, and I mean great deal, or he goes in the PSD.

Last I heard you guys did not have first pick (and he would be Pick No 1, no mistake).

So, I dont think it will be us providing the lube.

Our phone number is in the book. Feel free to call West Lakes at your leisure.

For the same reason we didn't have to use a first rounder to get Jacobs. He's uncontracted and can walk to GC in the PSD. AFC is in a weak position - we're not going to get full value unless Sydney is serious.

Or Tippett suggests he's willing to be traded to either Brisbane or GCS

There are rules that ensure all trades in those scenarios must be of equal value. In short you cannot trade to ensure a club doesn't take a player.

this is what we have to hope for.

If Kurt has any decency, he will tell GC he preferes them, but is willing to go to Brisbane if a fair deal cannot be done.

however, I don't hold out much hope for that happening.

Lets see how AFL rules/discretion help us out when we're over a barrel and our only option is to trade Tippett for a late first rounder!

The AFL don't really care, they just don't like it when you mess with their carefully crafted expansion plans and exploit them in ways that they did not foresee. The AFL were about to be extremely embarrassed by that deal last year and they just couldn't have it.

Haven't read all of this thread, so I apologise if what I'm about to say has already been said.

If he choses Gold Coast, we have little to no bargaining power.

Nothing to stop Gold Coast from offering us a second round pick for Tippett (out of courtesy), knowing that if we don't trade him, we'll lose him for nothing in the PSD.

Given the Gold Coast are a very new team in the competition, they'll be keen to develop a reputation of a hard-nosed club, and will use the system to their advantage. Similiar to what Fremantle did with Lyon last year.

Talk of Day or Gorringe coming here is nothing but optimistic. It won't happen. Gold Coast will offer the least they can, knowing that if we say no, they'll get him anyway.

Our only hope is that he doesn't indicate Gold Coast as his club of choice. Otherwise, we're screwed.

I reckon the Caddy deal will go first then Tippet.

So what I'm saying is I agree, its either going to be pick 2(doubtful) or the Caddy compensation deal plus something to sweeten the deal for the Crows.

In the end, I can't see the GC forcing the issue and trying to send Tippet through the Pre-season draft.

I'm with Iva Bigun. He said several times going back weeks ago to just a couple of days ago that we get Gorringe and Flanagan. Can't find his posts amongst a zillion pages on here and Suns boards but I reckon the deal is agreed to long ago. (will have another look to find the link and edit). Flanagan's bio on the Suns site has him as the quick outside left foot mid that the AFC has apparently said we're after.
This other club crap is just leverage from Blucher to get the Suns $$ up. Don't think Swans, GWS, pick 2, psd or any other option is gonna happen.
Don't even think Caddy pick is in the picture.

Think they're wrong re GWS ......GWS can take any uncontracted player in the draft , the same as any club
What concessions GWS had was they could take uncontracted players outside of the draft

Believe me, if Tippett goes into the draft GWS will be ready to pounce

I am not so sure about that. He will have a one million dollar price tag on his head. If GWS wanted anymore big name players they could of recruited them for free anyway. But it looks they haven't. And the reason why is they seem more intent on keeping their young players...

Our best case scenario is Kurt chosing Sydney... Gold Coast will have too much leverage with the PSD..

If we get Grundy and their first pick and maybe a fringe kid thrown in for good measure I am not sure we can expect too much more.
We need a KPD massively

Oh really? Seems strange, but awesome!

Edit - Could be a nice deal worked out there too. Assuming they're willing to pay Tippett's asking price of roughly $1m a season, you'd have to think we get Band 1 compensation. Could then trade those picks back to GWS, as I'm assuming they'll always be keen for more compo picks (although we burnt them last time :D) for Giles and a mini-draft pick, or any other low draft pick for this years draft they may end up with as a result of mini-draft bidding.
I know it worked this way for players taken by GC in the 2010 PSD and GWS in the 2011 PSD. I'm only assuming that it also holds true for GWS in the 2012 PSD, given that they have a 2-year window for signing uncontracted players (where GC had only one year to do so). To all intents and purposes players taken in the PSD are treated as if they were uncontracted players, with the same rules regarding GWS' ability to sign them and the same compensation being applied to the losing team.

Note that this only applies to players who were offered a new contract, refused to sign and walked out on their club. It does not apply to players who were delisted by their club.

I read somewhere that GWS can't take Tippett. Something about how they've already used up all their uncontracted player picks or something like that.

I am assuming Tippett and his nominated club would put a package price on his nomination if a deal couldn't be reached. On the basis of how many clubs can afford $900-$1M on a player??

GWS could .....therefore Jack Martin for Tippett and 3rd round pick PLUS PSD permission:p

But I am sure that permission also would cover taking Tippett in the National Draft wouldn't it?
I would be very surprised if they didn't put a price on his head. There's nothing to stop Tippett nominating for the ND or the PSD, other than the lack of certainty about where he would end up if he nominated for the ND. GC's only first round selection in the ND (for now) is pick #2 - and I'm not sure they would use that on him. On the other hand, I'm damn certain that he wouldn't be there by the time their 2nd round selection came into play.

As for putting a price on his head.. I think there are at least 5 clubs which are willing and capable of meeting the terms of a $900k-1M contract. It's probably not the disincentive it might be for a lesser player given that it's nothing more than his agreed market value.

That said, I don't think it will get to the PSD. I think a deal will be done long before then. I know that Tippett's management are using Sydney and the Melbourne teams to pump up his salary offer from GC. I also have a niggling suspicion that Tippett might be "doing the right thing by the club" (as he has always said he would) by doing this (at least partly) to ensure that Adelaide get the best possible return for his departure. I could be very, very wrong on the latter assumption - I probably am.

These reports all overlook the fact that the club can voluntarily give them permission to sign him, as Brisbane did when GC took two of their players. They still have roughly half their uncontracted player picks left - and taking him in the PSD would not require them to use one of these picks anyway.

I'd like Smart to get on the front foot (Not Chapman, he needs to keep his hands clean) and refute (assuming it's wrong) the claim that the PSD isn't an option.

Politely tell them that, if we don't get what we want, we will happily give GWS permission to take him, and we will expect band 1 compensation from the AFL as a result.

Thought I'd drop this here since this is where most of the action is..

Is there anyway you can give terrible interviews at the draft combine @JToumpas ?? Come on man stay at home! #crows2013 #howsthehip?

My man crush for Patty grows every day:):thumbsu:

Toumpas should do what Rioli did; tell everybody that he'll only stay in Adelaide, and if anybody else takes him, he'll leave for the Crows at the first opportunity.

Best Case Scenarios

Sydney- Jetta (won't happen)
Gold Coast- Gorringe + Caddy pick (use it to draft Mayes) - Very unlikely
Carlton- Gibbs + Pick

It seems like every bloody Club all of a sudden has that much money to throw around?

And how do I listen to Draft Radio? I've found the page, but no link or media player on it?

At the moment it's only running from 3 till 5 PM EST time I think. Next week it will run all day because that's when the actual Trade Week commences.
