Just thought I'd mosey on over to the Sydney board to have a look - and then I saw this:
A big, strong marking forward like Kurt has obviously been identified as a need for the Swans. We can't expect our mids to kick the majority of goals all the time. We could keep LRT in the backline, Pyke and Mummy wouldn't need to push forward as hard and often which would allow them to concentrate on their rucking.

Think he'd be a good fit ... strong depth is a good thing eh ?

If we chase hard for him then that's ok by me ... Seaby or our first draft pick sounds about right.
Just about fell off my chair.

 can you sign a verbal agreement ???

Do you really suffer from Attention Deficit Disorder?

There was a "Gentleman's Agreement" at the end of 2009 that if Kurt extended his current one year contract to a three year contract then Adelaide would trade him to the Gold Coast Suns at the end of 2012 if Kurt wanted to go home. The compensation for the trade would be comparable to the compensation for losing a player to Gold Coast at the end of 2010. No, it wasn't written in the contract, but the agreement was well known to Kurt and his management, the AFC and the GCS.

At the end of last season the AFC saw the writing on the wall. They desperately tried to get Kurt to sign a new contract but he said he needed more thinking time. Knowing that the Gold Coast was his desired destination the Crows tried to quietly negotiate a deal with the Lions but they didn't take the bait. Gold Coast countered by offering a "Contract" to Kurt at the end of last year (yes Wayno, that would be in writing).

So what's happening now? Even the AFC can't work out exactly why he has been applying for "Tool of the Week". They are still negotiating with the Gold Coast about the appropriate compensation for Kurt. Ignore the sabre rattling, the fact that the GCS finished 17th has dramatically reduced the threat of the AFC ignoring the "Gentleman's Agreement". The GCS can try to screw us in the pre-season draft but that would be just provoking a club with a bag of bank notes in their pocket.

Nothing has changed from an AFC point of view. Bookmark It, Wayno.

He's fighting for BF survival ......think he said that he would quit BF if his sources were not spot on :p

This place is better for his entertainment .....I am sure he'd be forgiven, but we may have to take a poll ;)

Nah, I think he's conned you there WW.

If I remember correctly, he never said that he'd leave BigFooty, but that he'd surrender his avatar.

Change the picture in the avatar and he's kept his word!! :)

Just have a conspiracy theory, but bear with me for one moment;

What if...

GWS held off on signing Giles or rather attempted to do so at a bargain basement price, having come to the realisation that Tippett could slip into the PSD for them.

For instance if GWS had $300k set aside for Giles and $500k for a big fish (possibly another first ruck like Goldstein), assuming that was all they had left in their cap, they might have realised they would need $800k to satisfy the price on Kurt's head.

Hence all the talk of Mark Blake. He would be able to play 1st ruck for less than $100k, while Tippett plays as a 2nd/ruck forward alongside Cameron, Patton, Folau. Giles may or may not be a part of that.

If GC trade fairly and get Tippett for a reasonable price, then its all fine and dandy and GWS keep Giles, ignore Blake while either luring over a decent player from Victoria or restructure their contracts. Nothing would be lost though there could be bad blood with Giles.

If we send Tippett to the PSD, GWS can take him with their first pick, no worries and all of a sudden have an enormous advantage and bragging rights over the expansion club cousins. What more could Sheedy want?

I think AFGM will be right in that the Crows will only get the pick the Suns get for Caddy (In the 10+ range), whether that's because his supposed source was right, or it's just blind luck remains to be seen.

I was looking over the other thread and really got very confused with everything you came up with. You have been all over the shop so I really don't know what to think. Here's a taste:
_______

I think it is naive to believe that Roo is just looking for a bit of publicity. My guess is that Roo is helping the AFC to bring this to a head.

Apparently we have offered $650 - $700,000 p.a. over 5 years. If he isn't going to take this, which is on the generous side, then he doesn't really want to stay. This offer was made before his third concussion so I suspect that there is no way that we will up the offer. If he goes down early next year then we will have to live on a reduced salary cap for the next 5 years (That's worked really well for Brisbane with Crazy Vossie's Fevolution).

What happens if he decides next week that he wants out? We can't win the flag without him but on the other hand we probably can't win the flag with him. You need the team closely bonded to get your best effort and knowing that one of your best players is about to take the money and run will not be helpful.

The AFC has always done the right thing by our players (Bock, Davis and Gunston) but it has not helped us much up to now.

There is no chance that he will leave. Just the normal argy bargy that occurs when gun players negotiate a new contract. We have only lost players in recent years because the coach "lost" the players. Money or the go home factor will not be a determining factor.

It sounds like we will not allow him to get away with that. If he is leaving, which I do not accept, the out for both parties will be for us to rule him out for the season due to the concussions and he then announces that he is going.

Is it possible that Kurt signed a contract with Brisbane or Gold coast at the end of last season?

P.S. I still think Kurt will stay, he has an outstanding relationship with his coach and money or the go home factor will not play a major role in his decision.

The "negotiations" have followed a very similar pathway to all the players listed above. If Kurt signed with Gold Coast or Brisbane at the end of last season how do you think things would have played out?

Prepare to be very disappointed and very surprised.

Some people at the club know exactly what has happened and I suspect that they will not hold back this time. There was no witch hunt when they found out that Phil Davis had signed with GWS at the end of 2010, the anger increased when they realised that Hawthorn had stiched up Gunston in the middle of the 2011 season but they will be white hot with anger when it becomes public that Kurt did a deal at the end of last year.

The off season will be very memorable this year.

P.S. One of the trainers is not a source. A board member is a source.

Let's just say, for the sake of argument, that the CEO received information that a player had signed with another club (e.g. Tom Scully at Melbourne). Who is the CEO obliged to inform

1) The Board - absolutely

2) General Manager Football operations - probably

3) Senior Coach - possibly

It is not that simple. No-one at the AFC has seen the contract but concerns that arose during last year's trade period have been confirmed over the last 8 weeks.

The loophole was first used by the Gold Coast at the end of 2009. It was used by the Gold Coast to sign some uncontracted players at the end of 2009. My source is impeccable (Andrew D).
.....
Eventually rumours come out from the other club (refer to Ablett and Scully). The Crows were hearing the same things since the end of last year.

You join the dots......................................................................

CEO or Board Member?

There are ways for two parties to come to a binding agreement without having it in the AFL contract.

P.S. Clearly you are not talking to the same person(s) as me RnR.

On the other hand, the "arrangement" may have included a third party. Now such an agreement may not hold up in a court of law but reneging on the deal has enormous ramifications for future trading with not only the Gold Coast but all other clubs.

Is there a single thing you've ever gotten right? Ever?

You have a truly outstanding record on this board, of being the poster who has a unique ability to be wrong about absolutely everything.
This is why I never post in absolutes. Because if there's a chance for me to be wrong, you can bet on it I'll be wrong, and often in spectacular fashion too.

Now I don't know Kurt but I'd suggest his ego wouldn't allow anything but a high first round pick -not that he has any say in it.

Its not really that confusing, obviously he received some info around the 22nd of August, prior to that it was just his opinion.

Since the 22nd of August AFGM has been pretty consistent. To date I have heard nothing that disproves the information he shared with us then.

Could be that yes, but I see some inconsistencies that make me think he's winging at least part of it. Like I said, my dead mother could have tipped Gold Coast as Tippetts' destination so no brownie points there I wouldn't think. And at first, his theory was EITHER Brisbane or Gold Coast, but soon changed to just Gold Coast. I think we all expected a decision by Tuesday (after the public holiday). It was a signed contract to start with, and now it's just a gentleman's agreement. Too many variables if you ask me.

Jenny, Jenny, Jenny.

My comments regarding him remaining were a dig at the MOB who kept proclaiming that players only wanted to leave the Crows because of Neil Craig. Prior to 15 August I was baiting the MOB since I knew what was going to happen. (e.g. There is no chance that he will leave. Since I was given the nod to go my hardest in mid August my posts have been perfectly consistent (other than the odd sarcastic comment).

When all is revealed you and the rest of the lynch mob can reassure yourself that I have just been very lucky with my guesses. Talking of which, how do you reconcile what has happened with all the good oil that you shared with us from your "sources".

P.S. If I am wrong it's not just must avatar that's going, I'll be gone forever.

Do you really think a board member would be leaking info like this to a nobody on an internet forum? Cmon.

Who's on board?
Everyone from Brisbane, I suspect.

And when did I specifically say it was a Board member. Read the words carefully, my statement was that sources can vary from the water boy to a member of the Board and I asked Jenny where her source fitted on this scale. I am not the only one singing from the same song sheet. Not everyone with contacts at the club are as clueless as Rowey.

I've been dying to ask, is the Illuminati involved in this conspiracy- and are McKenna Skirt and manager members of Skull & Bones?
