No, it wasn't. It was unders, but it wasn't ridiculously under. I'd say the ongoing speculation about the side agreement had a fair bit to do with the deal being scrutinised more than the offer itself.

Surely if you are interested in a player in their own right, as JT actually looks a very good prospect to me, you are able to treat that player as though he has no relative at the club. It would be crazy to say we can pay for John Smith say to come and play at Westies because we want to have a close look at him but we can't do the same with Joel Tippett.

Remember how GC had to get special permission from the AFL when they wanted to bring Swallow over from Perth 12 months early? The situation you have described is no different.

Besides which nobody in their right mind is going to believe that we paid JT to come over to Adelaide, to play in the SANFL, so that we could keep an eye on him with the intention of rookie listing him if things went well. The reasoning behind these payments were reported far too widely in the media.

Like it or not, JT is definitely "an Associate of a player" and thus all payments made to him need to be disclosed under the TPP rules.

It's kind of surreal that a week ago I was backing my club in to the hilt. I was feeling so proud of the stance they were taking and the fact we were willing to stick to our guns. I was feeling so much venom towards Sydney and Kurt and my opinion of their entire football club had changed. I'd lost all respect for them and I had nothing but anger. Fast track to this news breaking and all that venom has gone. The pride has completely diminished and even some of my anger towards Kurt has disappeared.

All that's left is a sense of anger, disgust and deja vu towards our football administration. I don't hate the Swans for any of this any more. They did what they did because they thought they could get away with it. It's smart business. I'd hope my club would do the same in a similar position. Whilst I think Blucher and Tippett are still fkwits I don't blame them for trying to take advantage of the agreement either. Blucher's job is to make as much money as possible for his client and whilst he's a complete and utter moron for the way he's handled this, his punishment is that he's basically killed his own career.

The blame, anger, resentment and shame lies solely at the feet of the administration who executed this deal and thought in some way this was a wise move. Not only did they then hide this but they were handed a sensational exit package from Brisbane in the form of a first and second Rounder last year and proceeded to knock it back. Their efforts in agreeing to this and letting this princess completely roger us has damaged our brand, it'll impact upon future tilts at the premiership and without sounding too hypocritical it'll impact upon any contract negotiations over the next few years (any potential shady grey areas we could've taken advantage of are now slammed shut to us because the AFL will go over all our dealings with a fine tooth comb).

The only way forwards for this is organisation a complete and open honesty with the fans (something our club isn't exactly notorious for). Anyone who knew about this dealing, anyone who partook in this dealing, anyone who helped hide this dealing must go. Immediately. Whoever is left that plans on staying within the organisation should have to go back through the selection process again. Clean out the entire back office and do so with complete transparency. It's not actually possible to make amends for this garbage but the club needs to show it has the ability to take out the trash that caused this whole drama.

That said, I think the club was aware of it, considering everybody in the league who had an interest would have been aware of it, but if given the choice between 23 and 33 I would have thought the choice would have been pretty easy. As I mentioned in one of the posts, we are in much better position that Carlton was list wise. We seem to have a replacement in the wings for every player that is comings towards the end of his career bar Truck.

Thommo will finish up in 2-4 years and we have Crouch in the wings. Johncock has become replaceable even this year and there are players in the wings who are already taking his spot.

A lot of good kids performing well in the SANFL and pushing for selection already so I have this nervous feeling that AFL are aware of this and will come down heavier on us than a lot of people think precisely because we are in good position list wise.
