Sorry for intruding guys. I have a few points I want to share on this topic.

I really feel sorry for you guys that you had this pig called Tippett play for a your great football club. Yes he was a good player and made you a better side, no doubting that but what staggers me is, after all the effort the club did to keep and yes they broke rules he still walks out like the club means nothing to him.

The bloke is a dead set mess. Most of us would kill for 1 AFL game and here is a bloke who doesn't give two s***ts what the club has done for him. No half decent bloke would do that to a football club. I just can't believe all this and if he get's off with no punishment then we have a game with big problems.

I hope he gets de registered for a whole season.

There are a lot of questions to be asked here. Did Trigg and Reid hav the authority to make these offers or enter these agreements with Tippett. How does the delegation of authority structure work at the crows. Would a deal like this require board approval? If yes, and board approval was not sought, then Trigg and Reid have bigger issues to worry about. Each year they would have to sign auditors reports saying they've disclosed everything to their knowledge. There are potentially criminal offenses associated with all of this.

To be honest I don't care how bad the sanctions are for Trigg and Reid. They dug their own graves. The fact of the matter is they are employed by AFC, whose job it is to select transparent and incorruptible administrators. We are vicariously liable for their mistakes.

Assuming the club is telling the truth about Tippett and Blucher making the additional demands, the 200k figure is just crazy. When you offer a player $650k or whatever it is we offered him, and he comes back at the last minute and says "I'll sign but only if you agree to trade me for a crappy pick at the end of it, AND pay me an extra $200k", he doesn't want to be there. He just doesn't. That's the kind of offer you make when you are you hoping the other party will walk away. He probably couldn't believe his eyes when he read the email saying we agreed to it.

I need to try this at my work. Just email them and say "I'm going to walk unless you give me a 30% payrise. Don't tell the ATO though!!"

Man, that is a cynical way of looking at things. If the AFL computer forensics team can't find a single thing wrong with all our other contracts, then all you are doing is speculating on nothing but opinion Carl. Why on earth would we invite the AFL to do this if we are doing this with other players? Trying to cover it up wouldn't work with technology the way it is these days.

So the "Kurt Incident" was a one-off indiscretion, completely out of step with every other action and behaviour the club has ever performed?

Well that's a relief.

The AFL forensics team found nothing wrong with Kurt's 2009 contract.

Pretty sure I posted my disgust at Trigg as well, keep reading. Tbh though, as I said in another thread, my life isn't gonna end if he stays on as CEO, it really doesn't faze me. I have no idea what his job involves or how well he does it (besides this saga IF true), and I don't really have the education in the business area to criticise him. I'm an engineer, I hate this shit!

Well I am very familiar with how companies work and how boards empower senior management to do certain things and also reserve key/strategic decisions for themselves. My suspicion is that Trigg has probably acted outside his authority by entering into any arrangement with Tippett. That's assuming Trigg was aware of what Reid was agreeing with Boucher at the time! If trigg wasn't aware then reid is the one that was way outside his authority.

So - what do we assume would have happened if we accepted the pick 8 offer made last year by Brisbane?

I can't imagine the Tippetts would have accepted a trade while contracted.

It's not like we could also trade across the illegal side agreement.

I wouldn't be surprised if Trigg felt he couldn't trade Tippett last year. That the illegal side agreement was a blackmail/bargaining chip held by the Tippetts, and he could upset them lest it was revealed.

Can't believe AFC condoned payments outside of TPP .....it's totally not the AFC "good guy" style

The underwrote IIRC .....that means no payment due if 3rd party arrangements occurred as expected

The question is:
1. How were 3rd party deals administered ....part of Tippetts marketing allowance

2. If the AFC had to pay to cover shortfall in 3rd party deals ......would that have been declared in future TPP records ?

My guess is that we never had to make a payment to cover any shortfall on the 3rd party deals WW.

I'm basing this on Chapman's comment that the AFL are welcome to examine our books and they won't find anything not above board with our payments.

That doesn't detract from the fact that we intended to make payments outside the cap if necessary - as much as $200,000 pa if necessary.

Similarly with the 2nd round draft pick. We would be claiming that the deal we did with Sydney was'nt for a 2nd rounder which means we abandoned what was written in the separate agreement with Tippett.

Only my opinion, but it would appear that we are dead ducks on intent in writing, but clear in practice of having carried out any of the written intent- for whatever that is worth.

I understand what you're saying though. It seems so unbelievable that it could happen once, that it's not really that much further a stretch to imagine it happening all the time.

First of all in all seriousness I'm sorry to see this happen to the Adelaide Football Club, and I say that mainly for the supporters. We all have teams we like to barrack against but in this case it will be the supporters who suffer (if severe penalties are imposed).

I would not like the situation that happened to Carlton to be repeated (i.e. massive draft pick penalties and fines), where Carlton was noncompetitive for years. Adelaide's list is pretty strong at the moment, but I would hope its not in the 3 to 4 year range that you are affected (if picks taken away).

As has probably been posted before this is quite a staggering event and really beyond belief. What were the club initially thinking and what was Tippet thinking taking it to court to expose the whole mess?

Anyway don't want to repeat what has been said it this post, but hope the player more than the club is punished for this incident.

club would have to make a contract offer to the player at some point, the AFL could prevent us from doing this. i dont think they will but i dont see it as outside the realms of possibility.

Players Association won't allow that. Draft picks? Sure.

The letter sent from former Crows football manager John Reid to Tippett's manager Peter Blucher is also understood to provide a guarantee the Crows would cover the money - split over two years - if it was not sourced via the third parties.

This seems to be in response to query from Tippett Manager ......hardly an issue the AFC would initiate

It is not necessarily relevant whether Adelaide paid Tippett the extra money, however the The Age believes the Crows would have had room in their salary cap to cover the $200,000, had they chosen to include it.

No sense this ....you don't include in TPP if 3rd party deals live up to expectation ......question is was there any shortfall needing to be paid

Late yesterday there had been no significant contact between the Crows and Swans, with Adelaide officials ceasing to pursue any trade.

There goes the previously great Adelaide/Sydney relationship ..... I blame Ireland who obviously got more involved than other trades ...and had inside "mate" knowledge

I would be astounded if Rob Chapman or the Board had any knowledge of the secret deal. Whilst he is hardly a CPF, I know Rob and I believe he is both honest and ethical.

I would also like to apologise to Jenny. If the Chairman and the AFC Board didn't know what was happening then it would be unfair to criticise your sources.

What I still can't understand is why we haven't tried to trade for other quality players since we have an extra $800,000 p.a. to spend over the next 4 years. Losing draft picks this year is disturbing but hardly a fatal blow given that our first pick is at 20. I would elevate Rory Laird if we lose this pick since I believe he would go higher than 20 in this year's draft. Hopefully we can at least participate in the rookie draft.

What worries me AFGM is that with all the many, many references to this "clause" over the years the board wouldn't have twigged? Unless Trigg and Reid lied to them, which could have happened I admit, they surely have been negligent by not looking at the paper trail. There is no doubt that my sources knew nothing of it, and that in itself is a worrying fact. I am still awaiting full disclosure from the club that they have promised, and then and only then will I make full judgement.

You know, within a day of Tippett announcing he wanted to go to Sydney, I busted the shit out of my ankle and it's still swollen today. Completely ruined my sporting schedule, made walking anywhere a real pain, expensive physio appointments, etc.

Now, thinking back to it, the whole Tippett to Sydney thing was probably in my mind when I went over feet and did the injury. It was almost certainly the distraction that caused the injury, in fact!

So the only question I have now is whether it is Trigg, Tippett, Tippett Snr or Blucher that is responsible for paying my medical bills and refunding my sport team fees?

Kurnt Tippett has copped quite a bit of flak over this (rightly so) as have several current and ex AFC agents but to me Tony Tippett is starting to look like a real piece of work.

Chapman invited the AFL to have a look at our books and has publicly said that they won't find a thing.

With the status that he hold in the commercial world, there's no doubt that he genuinely believes that, after grilling Trigg,Harper etc, to be able to have the confidence to make that statement.

He wouldn't risk his reputation when he knows that the AFL are scrambling all over us
