Just want to give Andy McInnes a bit of a toast. He has slotted into our 22 with minimal fuss & is hardly talked about. He is a no frills backman that can be relied upon to do his job. Reminds me a bit of presty!

It also seems that he has a bit of versatility & his confidence & skill is improving every outing!

Keep up the good work Andy!

Reminds me of a young Jamison in both the way he moves and his unassuming, no-nonsense approach (add in the shoulder strapping for the trifecta!).

Already very accomplished one-on-one at senior level, and also appears to be a good decision maker. Doesn't look out of place in the forward line but I think he is most effective down back.

The emergence of McInnes will make things very difficult for Duigan, especially so with the return of Laids next year.

As much as I love Laidler, if he makes a full comeback given the number of repeat injuries that he's suffered this year, I will consider that a huge bonus. Not writing him off but respect how tough that can be.

Will only get better.

I dropped off him this year after watching VFL but he has come on leaps and bounds in the seniors. Tidyish disposal too. He's showing now what he gave glimpses of when he came to the club.

Such an interesting young player, he just comes in and literally slots right in. No fuss, no frills but does his job and very effectively.

I guess he is a bit like a young Jamison, maybe not quite as tall (191cm vs 193cm) but otherwise has some similarities. When Goodes was literally running Gibbs around, Andy Mac was amazingly effective in staying with Goodes and always giving the defensive punch away.

He's a keeper I reckon. Judging by his ability to even switch forward and provide a lead-up player, he could be something of a handy utility.

Yes a lot to like there. As noted, seems at home at this level.

Incredible how some do and yet some just don't for no apparent lack of ability. And that's what makes the draft such an inexact science. Except in hindsight, of course, with which so many of our posters are so bountifully blessed.

The one stand out thing I like about him is he wears his opponent tight, you know, the way a defender should.

Is also a good size (looks bigger in the upper body than Laidler) and has genuine football smarts.

He destroyed Goodes.

Definitely a no-fuss stopping defender. One good thing about our injureis this year is that we have a lot of depth in KP defenders who have all played senior footy:

-Jamison
- Henderson
- Watson
- Laidler
- McInnes
- Thorton

Good to have so many players who can hold their own against big forwards.

you never seem him without an arm around an opponent, got to love his mental application.

Our best find after Bootsma. Impressive intensity and size for a second year player who carries himself like a 100 gamer. Old fashioned and no nonsense defender. Excited about what Watson, McCarthy and Mitchell can do after we rated these players higher than McInnes.

Been a fan since day dot and am thrilled that he's performing at the top level.

I'm no expert but from when we first drafted him, there was just something that I really liked about Andy and the way he goes about his football. Would't say he does anything at an elite level, but he's just solid in every area. Has only played the 5 senior games, but the way he carries himself on the field you'd excuse any observer for thinking he's been around for 100 games. Is likely to make a name for himself in the defensive half of the ground but has shown already at AFL level that he can be just as effective up forward. Would love to see him perhaps move into the middle at times if his fitness permits it, to take on the responsibility of matching up against some of the taller midfielders of the competition.

Prior to the Sydney game I was wondering if the MC would be tempted to give Andy a big role on one of Sydney's premier players, because younger players who just go about their business with minimal fuss are often the ones who thrive under such circumstances. The opponent who came to mind was ROK, and whilst that match-up didn't eventuate, he was shifted to Goodes which was wonderful to see. What was even greater to see was the way Andy handled that added responsibility - he probably could have been forgiven for having one of the best players of the past decade dominate him, but he handled himself with aplomb and actually beat Goodes - and for that he has to be commended.

We've had a really disappointing season as a club, for a number of reasons. Those reasons have been dissected ad nauseum both on this board and outside of it, and this is not the time to re-hash those reasons. What should be mentioned though, is that despite the poor season we've managed to unearth some younger players who look like they have what it takes to contribute to the Carlton Football Club heading back up the ladder and once again into premiership contention - and for mine, Andy Mac is right at the top of the tree in that regard.

Interesting to note too, besides the Tigger game where he only had the 1 mark, all his other games he has had at least 5 marks or more. Think he had 7 against the Swans.

I haven't gone into it in any depth, but those numbers certainly line up with the fact he just looks right at home and does his role. He's obviously a good old fashioned smart footballer and knows where to go and does everything solidly.

Played more as a forward against the Tigers which would explain that drop in marks total.

He is a great mark and will be taking similar grabs to Laids when he's at full confidence.

Needs to chisel his body a little bit more and put on 5kg. But has always been a neat and tidy player.

Feel like a bad apple now, but I'm far from convinced with McInnes at this point in time.
Just a little too meat and potatoes for mine, based on what I've seen of him through pre-seasons, VFL level and even AFL level.

Nowhere near as good as Laidler when the ball is on the ground nor in the air and he doesn't really attack the ball, but would rather let it come to him.
Just a little too negative for what is required these days I feel.

He does have a good punch on him though and I wish the kid the best of luck.
I wouldn't really expect him to be as good as Laidler though, at least not yet. I think Laidler was a gem pickup.

:(

Every premiership backline needs a Michael Sexton.

My memory may be fading, but Sexton was a bit more than meat and potatoes.
Maybe Fillet Mignon and less spud.

sexton mentioned in the same context as harry taylor haha he will been stoked. he was a plodder, great one on one ...
big fan of mcinnes from last year, thought he was a mile ahead of watson last year an to be frank he still is (not kicking)... missed abit of pre season weights with the shoulder so with another pre season he will be a gem :)

In short he was a very good player and if McInnes can reach his status, we'll be rubbing our hands.

That's kinda my point - you're judging McInness after 5 games.

Compare Secco's first 5 games in 1990-1 and get back to me. McInness, IMHO, is ahead.
