He is a very interesting prospect at 196 cm, Showed on the weekend he was a very good short and accurate pass for a Big Man. Moves well. He can play Ruck,Backman of Foward.

So what do you think of Thoolen?

definetly getting better still got a long way to go, not the greatest kicking action but his passing seems to have gotten pretty good

Very weird cat! I wouldn't have drafted him with someone else's pick, but I hope he turns out the way Hine envisages (whatever that may be!).

He definitely looked better the other day, but needs to finish the goals.

Does anyone have the bit torrent to the Coll reserves vs Box Hill game? I missed it on TV.

On Thoolen - I share TRS's opinion that if he is going to make it, it will be as a ruckman, and to do this he must grow another 4-5 cms at least. This is probably why Hine drafted him (based on the fact that his old man is over 2 metres tall). I believe if he doesn't grow, he doesn't make it.

I'm sure as soon as we drafted him, we sent him in for tests to see how big he'll get. If we thought he was going to get big enough to be a ruckman, we'd play him in the ruck more.

I've struggled to see how he could be a player in previous games but he was okay last Saturday and did some nice things. He's a long term project though.

Out of all the long term prospects Hine has picked up I believe Toby is the longest of them all. Pretty much was not on the radar at last years draft but may have been this year. Needs a few years in the VFL before he would be in consideration but fingers crossed he makes it.

No doubt this is the case - however the Pies Development Coaches will be pouring the work into him, and judging from his improved showing, it might be starting to bear fruit.

He looked good on the weekend, for sure. I don't think any 17 year-old is going to come 2nd in a TAC Cup B & F, playing a KP/ruck, if they can't play the game. That being said, and as King Woodie points out, I'm a firm believer that at AFL level he'd have to play ruck to make it. He is simply too slow to be a modern KP player.

Thoolen did get a small taste in the ruck on Saturday and looked good. The fact that his footskills also looked great when kicking to leading forwards was promising. Easily Thoolen's best outing of the season IMHO.

I'd be surprised if he is slow judging by recent drafting policy with a big emphasis on speed. Maybe he just looks slow because he hasn't started backing himself yet.

He is slow. He tested slow at the draft camp, and he looks it out on the park.

I agree with Sampler: ruck looks to be his best chance of making it, but he needs to grow a few more cms, which isn't out of the question given his family background.

He provided a glint of hope on the weekend , which is much, much more than previous matches. I suppose he has time on his side at this stage , and a heap of development.

Trust me he ain't slow, went to school with the boy and he was outsprinting and out running some of his other pioneer midfielders by a fair margin

His 20m result at the draft camp wasn't good. And after seeing him several times in the VFL, if he's quick he's doing a good job of hiding it.
