I think he accidentally kicked him in the face. He meant to fend Dal off more in the chest/guts area, but misjudged the height differential.
But, are you allowed to even *try* to fend off a tackler with a raised leg? No.
So yeah, careless, and impact was enough to send an opponent off the field for a while. So not light contact. Therefore gets whatever careless+medium contact deserves. I dont even see how that is questionable. Plus whatever extra for his record of constantly being 'careless'.
Do you reckon Toby Green has zero peripheral vision?
Fair cop he may not have looked him square in the eye but he saw him coming the whole way.

He shouldn't get a game but I hope he does cos I HATE him!!!
He was protecting himself from being tackled from the hospital pass. It was very smart play (but dangerous) as it allowed him to get away from the player.
Of course he knew he was coming, but I highly doubt he was aiming for the head.
The question is are players allowed to fend off\protect them selves with their foot sprigs outs? I think the answer should be no, and he should get a fine\ 1 week after 3 fines in the year.
Why shouldn't he get a game? Based on the vision of him and Luke Parker a few years ago, he should get medium,high and careless.
Unless blood streaming from the face is insufficient contact, like it was for Judd in his second Brownlow year.
You hating him should make no difference.

Toby will either get 8 weeks for kicking or apologised to for having his time wasted and a silly free kick paid against.

People keep saying this. Please show us the rule that deals with protecting space.
Trust me, the total summary of the rules is: you cant make contact with any part of your legs with another player, unless you are taking speccy.
you will get done for kneeing, sliding , tripping and in this case fending off, whether you meant to or not. Whether you are a squeaky clean like dustin fletcher or a 'careless' player like Greene. Its not on.
In fact, the unsuccessful defence by Luke Parker was based on him denying that he was trying to defend the space, or protect himself. Why would he do that if it's a valid defence?
Would that apply to a marking contest as well?
Would it have been ok if he had jumped and taken a mark but his foot had still hit his head?
There is definitely a lot of grey, it will be a tough one for the MRP.
It would likely have been fine, because it's explicitly stated in the laws of the game that 'incidental contact' during a marking attempt is permitted, rule 15.4.3 (e).
It would have only been against the rules (if he were attempting a mark) if the action was deemed not to be incidental.

Knees Elbows and Hips are the worst. A boot like that is just fodder for the easily outraged.
The average hanger involves a knee to the back of the head or into the back. Not a nice feeling. If lucky you;ll only get his boot.
If Green turned sideways and used his body, and Dahlhaus ran into his hip he'd likely be off on a stretcher rather than no harm done.
Too many people WANTING to assume the worst coz they dont like the evil punchable small fwd.
No confected outrage required.
No preconceived notions about his character needed either.

Have you even seen some of the injuries caused by studs? I suggest you do some googling. There's a reason why it's an automatic red card in soccer. I'd rather take a hit from the knees, elbow and hips because they're not at the end of a lever so the range of movement in those areas is limited.
If Greene went any higher around the eye area, we'd be talking about potential loss of sight.

You're allowed to do a lot of things contesting a ball as long as they're not careless and injure the other player esp head high.
Greene jumps when Dalhaus is about a step and a half away and already braking, puts his hands up when Greene's boot comes up and doesn't have time to protect his face.
Now if Greene is a known gravity defier and can suspend himself mid air for a second or 2 with his boot in place then you might argue Dalhaus could have avoided it, but he is well within his right to approach the man about to receive a ball without having studs thrust upward at him esp 4-5 feet off ground within a split second.
It's a dangerous and careless move by Greene that has injured the head so it should be treated like all other tackles, bumps, fend offs that cause similar injury.
