Hard, cool under pressure, always gives off to the first available option, takes no shit. Always feel confident when he has the ball.

And all without many outstanding physical attributes. Makes you realize what goes on between the ears is the most important attribute.
His agility, vertical leap and sideways movement (the main attribute that made Sam Mitchell a star) is all elite. You're right that his athleticism isn't his standout attribute, but it would be remiss not to mention these strengths.

Love the kid and he can work in a phone box. Always remember chatting to that lonely looking kid at his first Social Club Christmas party. My only concern about him playing in the guts being that he is just so small and could get rag dolled if they get a hold of him.

Hasnt been a problem for Dalhaus so far. He gets cleaned up every game but just gets back up. I actually don't agree about him being that skinny either. His BMI is one of our highest IIRC. Definitely put on some size over the last offseason and is probably at a close to optimal playing weight.

22.15 --- Hamilton
21.73 --- Lynch
21.35 --- Mullenger-McHugh
20.70 --- English
20.02 --- Greene

So certainly not our highest but not too shabby. McLean is just below the median - 28th out of 45, but has a higher BMI than players of similar height in Murphy, Dale, Hunter, Williams, Biggs and Dahlhaus. Deceptive!

I love this data dogwatch. Confirms to me that we need to get stronger down back, not taller. I've heard quite a few people call for taller KPD's to take on the Patton's and Daniher's. We only need to look at the Swans to see this is a fallacy.

Grundy - 192cm
Melican - 193cm
Rampe - 188cm

No height but all are strong as bulls and have BMI's of 25+. We have Roberts, Cordy and Young all sub 23.5...hit the gym boys!

I don't think Cordy is going to be a bull any time soon. Look at his brother. I think his genes are against him.
Roberts has also had ample time to bulk up so I wouldn't hold much hope there.
Young should fill out - he's still 18. And we have Adams.

Cordy has the ability to compete with the really tall forwards. But that we're so often caught out on other team's fast breaks, or them immediately winning clearances and rocketing the ball inside 50, makes it much harder for him to cleanly battle these guys for position. It wasn't an issue last year because we were dominating the ball and not letting the other team get as many fast breaks. But he is capable. He had those monster efforts on Daniher.

Still, I think we should get someone who can deal with them. I'd be content with Adams but these foot injuries can ruin big blokes. I'm not optimistic about him having a long and healthy career, to say the least. So if we recruit someone who can take them, and Adams does end up playing, Adams can just be the key forward we need.

Cordy and Young are going to be amazing 2nd and 3rd defenders. And Zaine's a pretty good kick, thinks things through. Getting someone to take the team's biggest forward takes away some pressure to free him up to take more kicks.

Or we could go back to 2016 tactics of just not letting the other team get as many inside 50s. I think I'd prefer that above anything else. I quite liked that. Seemed to get the job done.

I refuse to believe someone with legs that skinny could have such a high BMI.
Care to repeat that, pal?

Watched McLean closely during the back half of 2017 particularly after that Adelaide performance. I'm a huge believer of the Centre Square Involvement numbers and seeing his spike in square-offs once Jong was injured and of course the whole Libba in-and-out scenario, my interest had been tickled. Although he wasn't winning many first possessions at these stoppages (relatively poor in comparison to his teammates), his movement and awareness are of the highest quality.

The way he closed out the season reminded me of Zach Merrett's last 2 months in 2015 (pre-injury) before his big breakout season last year and also of Travis Boak in his last month and a bit of 2009 (same age that TM is now). The only difference here being that Toby's sample space is larger than both of what these guys showed when eventually given opportunity in the midfield.

Hope there is room for opposition supporters on his bandwagon because I'm sold on this guy.

Jake Lever wouldn't have a massive BMI but was worth two first rounders.
I wonder what Dustin Fletcher's BMI was? ;)

TBH I think defensive system is more important than the personel.
Our premiership defensive starting 6 was:

3 former rookies
1 DFA
1 PSD
1 3rd round draftee (premiership captain)

With all due respect to the talls, they weren't superstars but got the job done based on excellent coaching, an excellent system and a team-first attitude.

So presuming your list has a clean bill of health come round 1, has our boy Toby done enough to warrant himself a permanent spot in your centre-square rotation group? Or will his midfield time remain dependent upon the absence of similar players?

Surely his clearance and contested work at the coal face once Jong went down this year showed that he is ready to be unleashed full-time!

I think we have 6 blokes who will do the majority of centre bounce work. Bont, Macrae, Lib, McLean, Dahlhaus, Wallis. In that order for me.
