EJ was rated by Mighty Mike as the second greatest player of all time behind Lethal Leigh so it's expected that he'd top our list for greatest ever Bulldog.

Matthews played most of his career in a top team, and had Crimmins roving early, until 1975, so could stay mostly forward (don't believe that BS that he kicked his biggest bags while playing mostly on-ball). Whitten played everywhere and carried a side that only played finals once in his last 14 seasons. Whitten also had the burden of being captain coach, and didn't have the luxury of a Hudson or Moncrieff drawing the key defenders, or Knights at CHB. Put Whitten in those 1971-1978 Hawk teams, or the late 60s/early 70s Tiger teams, best ever wouldn't even be a discussion.
