Well this morning before work I picked up the paper to see the footy section is covered in Crows crap. Two articles annoyed me, firstly it was 'Craig's vision for bright future' & secondly 'Adelaide show they are the best team outside of the 8'.

I know its the Advertiser but it still got to me when they go on and say Crows are the best team outside of the 8, I would argue that Melbourne and Port Adelaide are better sides.

Also it annoyed me when they go on and on about Crows young list and saying nothing at all about our young list. Again I could easily argue Melbournes future is more promising and also argue Ports future is more promising.

Being a Port supporter i know im kind of biased but still I think we are being overlooked.

What is everyone's thoughts?

According to the ladder North Melbourne and Port Adelaide are better than the Crows outside of the 8. The Advertiser panders to the masses and will try everything it can to ensure that a fluffy feel surrounds the Crows.

Shame about reality.

Of course the Crows are the best team out of the eight. They beat Geelong remember. Shouldnt worry that they couldnt beat a pathetic, shithouse Port Adelaide outfit a week later....they beat Geelong. GEELONG!

Any club that beats Geelong, who never have an off night mind you, must be up there with the best.

Lets not forget they beat St Kilda on the weekend, Saints were at full strength and had to win to keep a top 4 spot

Im glad we're under the medias radar, makes it that much sweater when we beat them but yes the hyping of some of their young players is sickening and only sets them up for failing.

At first I was annoyed, as I think that our kids are as good as if not better than their's... but on further thinking, let the weight of expectation and hype fall upon the Crows and not us.

I think that the hybrid state team conglomerates are a monty for the top 4 again next season - the pensioners are going to improve again in 2011 ... oh wait a minute... didn't they all retire after having stellar seasons.

A bit rich considering Ross Lyon admitted to the Saints taking the foot off in the second half (more than evidenced by their tempo footy when they had the ball).

For the most part I feel the same way.
However, for the sake of attracting new/young/undecided supporters we need some media hype about our youngsters and our future. Unfortunately, the Advertiser (along with 5AA, the local Channel 7 and Channel 9 news) only pander to the masses - it's what sells rags and gains ratings.

Now imagine if a 21 year old Crows player in only his 11th match of AFL, in front of a hostile opposition crowd at the MCG, playing an emotionally charged Richmond - had taken a handful of HUGE contested marks, kicked 4 goals (including one from 50m on the boundary line to seal the match)... the Advertiser would probably be arranging a ticker-tape parade and erecting a new statue in Victoria Square.

It's because of that young colt Michael Doughty that the Crows youngsters are rated so highly. He's come on so well.

My bet is it would trump Cousins' 14 page spread, with cardboard cutout faces to take to the game as well as replica brownlows and coleman medals, the Adelaide Parklands authority agreeing to build a mausoleum for the kid.

my thoughts are that it's the advertiser. we should distribute a zine for PAFC supporters and non-crows fans of footy in SA. maybe people will learn real knowledge and what real news is.

Im surprised so many of you buy the filth that is the Advertiser.

Who cares? Im more than happy to be underdogs.

I personally think we are one of the best young teams currently in the AFL.

Melbourne are probably the strongest, with North Melbourne and Port Adelaide following, then you have Richmond and Adelaide followed by the likes of WCE, Essendon.

I dont mind the Crows side, they seem to be building a fairly good defense and forward lines, their Ruck Stocks and Midfield area is lacking hugely though.

When you compare their midfield to ours of;

Kornes, Boak, Banner, Broadbent, Hartlett, Rodan, Gray, Salopek, Cassisi it looks pretty second rate imo.

And many of our supporters believe that our midfield is probably our lacking department currently. At this stage I think we are probably two or so normal drafting years ahead of the Crows in terms of development. With the introduction of GWS and the GC it will make it difficult for them to build upon their current structure which definately lacks alot of speed at the moment.

Davis, Sloane and Dangerfield will be great players though, they just need a few more around them ;).

Let them have their moment.

I would argue that Melbourne and Port Adelaide are better sides (than the crows)

Firstly this is already proven. We beat them 3 times this year. Let them live in their own delusional world IMO it is why they continue to fail because of their own ignorance in a totally crows biased town where they are clapped off the ground for losing and celebrated as heroes for a couple good games a season.

Secondly who cares whether we are rated or not, we all know our midfield depth of young talent smashes the crows. The area we struggle is up forward, however D Stewart appears like he may help on that front, other than that our backline is just as good and if we can get Jacobs we'll have a better ruckman than their pairing.

Agreed, to some extent sometimes it just gets too sickening seeing how underrated we are. JMint made a great point, imagine a little kid seeing all this pro crows media and nothing about the other SA side, i know what team the kid would go for.

The Crowtiser is true to form. :thumbsd:

The Cows finish 11th and are the best team outside the eight yet they didn't beat the teams in 9th and 10th spots even once during the season, zero from three.

They lost to North Melbourne in round 8 and to Port in rounds 6 and 17.

They beat Melbourne, who finished 12th, in round 13 but balance that against a loss to Richmond, who finished 15th, in round 18. Between that they beat Geelong in round 16 after the club doctor had a heart attack during the warm up. They finished off the season beating St Kilda in a dead rubber with Ross Lyon admitting that he was more interested in getting his players through the game unscathed rather than winning.

does anyone actually pay *money* for the advertiser ? I haven't, not for ~10 years. they keep throwing it over my fence on weekends though. I don't know why they do that 'coz I never asked them for it. I figure reading it is ok because I am responsibly recycling their littered rubbish...

The "Roo's view" on the port list is another quality piece of "journalism".

At least Roo shows he can actually read Big Footy, and regurgitate stuff in a form that is sort of 80% of what is said here (ie argued about here). I wonder about Chris McDermott though (well, not really, he's almost at the Andrew Capel level now).

Speaking of Capel maybe he's reconsidered his opinion that Boak was "controversially" drafted ahead of Sellar.

"With ace young midfielder Travis Boak in spectacular form, it kicked 13 of the next 14 goals, including 10 in the second term, to bolt to a commanding 59-point lead early in the third quarter."

Given the rest of the article I'd say it's a certainty that anyone other than Primus picked to coach Port next year will get the "XXXXX controversially selected ahead of Matthew Primus" treatment. :p

People have been hyping up the crows for years and they continue to fail everyones expectations. So let the media hype the crows again as we will continue to go about our business and win games. and maybe more then the top 4 crows that everyone thought they would be this year. Yet we manged to finish higher then them lol.

Yeah it is great having both Roo and McDermott as our two 'independent' experts reviewing the Port list.

McDermott reckons that we will need to move on TEN players this year, lol. What a muppett.

Roo reckons we need to turn over 15 in the next two years!!

I would love to see them name them and then name the quality replacements we are going to be able to get at pick 100 of a dud draft.

Add to the fact that we have little in KP prospects and that the hybrids have a much better rookie list - HTF did he make that gem of an assessment.
