News Today's training session

Well, as no one else has made a report I guess you're all in for another 'in depth' one from me :p

First impressions were that all the guys looked fit, very trim and very fast.
There was no obvious evidence of too much Christmas pudding!:D

Fasola was running laps with the running coach, and Seedsman ran many laps on his own.
Toovey was training and looked very mobile.
Cloke practiced goal kicking and got them all through except for one poster.

They did lots of tackling drills, and running out of defence type drills.

The man standing at the end of the goals told me Toovey was going well, and there were no new injuries. A couple were a little behind but he didn't elaborate.

I took some photos but they're not overly clear. Sorry:( Image 2.jpg

Important supplementary information:D
Kennedy's had a haircut and was more recognisable. (to me anyway)
Broomhead has a mop to equal his name.

Players use the following call names to each other (very imaginative):

Marto
Kenno
Sin or Sinner
Jacko
Keefie
Pendles
Caf
Huddo
Sidey
Broomy
Yagmoor (surprisingly they don't shorten this)

They were the only ones I heard:p:p

As an aside.
I was talking to a photographer who is taking photos of all the teams training for a new football website being built.
I asked him about other teams he's seen.

He said Melbourne are looking fantastic and he hopes they can translate it to actual games. Training with amazing intensity and focus, and Paul Roos is handling them with an iron glove.

Carlton are looking good (to his eyes - he's a blues fan). He's very happy that Buttifant is there.
Says a lot of the players have bulked up and are looking very strong.
Buttifant has been changing their body shapes.

Thanks MG

The thing that stood out for me from
your report was Cloke's kicking.

Was he by himself or had someone talking to him eg the new kicking coach?

Thanks again for your report :)

Sorry, last bit

This photographer had an interesting story.
He explained how he was not there for the club but instead was commissioned to take photos of all the clubs whilst training for a new football website.
I asked if he barracked for the pies and he said, "no Carlton", but that his aunt and all his siblings did.
(he, poor man, had been the first born and his father insisted he follow the Blues)

Anyway he told me the story of his aunt. She had been the president of the ladies committee back in the 70's and had lots of players stay with her when they came to Melbourne (one being Phil Carman)
Everything in her house was black and white - furniture, floor, decorations etc and there were stuffed magpies everywhere.
She was married to Jim Evans, who was the head trainer at Richmond, and every time the 2 teams were due to meet, he would go into the spare room a week before the game, and stay there for a week after the game :D

She had collected every record and so much memorabilia, although he didn't know what had happened to it after she died.
She made the claim that she never saw the Pies lose a game - as she always left in the last few minutes!!!
Her name was Miriam Evans:hearts:

Were most of the boys out there? Any obvious absentees?

Luke Ball obviously

I'm sure about all the new guys. They were just a little far away for me to recognise sometimes.
I saw Armstrong

Is the coach really short?
In which case he was :D

And there was another very slightly built (sort of Seedsman type) kicking as well. The guy behind the goals couldn't remember his name:rolleyes:

Good report, but since I had one eye on the text, and the other on the photos and as a result, was startled at this line; "Fevola was running laps with the running coach,".

I thought I'd made a terrible mistake for a moment:eek:

Hhaha not at all, thanks for the report. Most interesting off season ever. Hope all this translates to a good solid season.

Also hope we give the Hawks a good belting...or three.

Hi MG

Not sure what the new kicking coach looks like.

Disappointing to hear Carlton are looking better according to the photographer but he could be blinded by his delusional status :)

Good for the Melbourne Footy Club if Roos is knocking a bit of backbone into them though.

They're going to be so top heavy Swooop:D

Our guys look very lean, strong and fast

Hey MG. Thanks for the post. :thumbsu:

Was Maxwell there and has he muscled up? From one for the previous training youtube clips on the collingwoodfc website it looked like bulked up somewhat.

Yes Maxwell was there.
All the players look slim and toned in the legs and hips, and very muscley in the arms. A bit like Williams and Fasola in the pictures above.

Did u notice who was doing most of the kick ins from defence? With Heater gone, there's a lot of speculation who will take on that role. Cheers :)

Thanks MG. I went along as well.
Guys look very fit & they are training at a very high intensity.

I don't think Goldy, Jessie White, Scharenberg or Adams trained outside today.
Karnezis did a few run throughs but not much else. Sinkers & Witts are now training with the main group.
