Another awesome day for Australia, and Day 7 could also be another day for gold. The schedule is loaded; was actually hurting my brain trying to come up with a highlights list because it is genuinely loaded. It’s the first day of track and field, and it starts with a bang. I’m particularly interested in the men’s 400m hurdles, the field is loaded and while I’d love to see Warholm win, it’s a stacked field and could be anyone’s. And it’s that point of the Olympics where the athletics is beginning but the swimming is still kicking on, with gold medal chances for Australia.

Day 7 highlights include:

* Brandon Starc in men’s high jump qualifying first thing in the morning
* Kookaburras vs Spain
* Rowing final men’s and women’s 8’s
* BMX SF (2 Aussies)
* Women’s 800m track (Morgan Mitchell, no chance but nice to see a representative)
* Rugby 7’s Australia vs USA
* Women’s 100m freestyle final (McKeon, Campbell)
* Athletics men’s 400m hurdle heats (field is loaded, look out for dos Santos, Samba, McMaster, Rai Benjamin, and superstar Warholm heat 3)
* Kaylee McKeown 200m backstroke SF
* Athletics women’s 100m heats
* Men’s kayak final (Delfour third fastest qualifier)
* Tennis mixed doubles SF (Barty/Peers)
* Women’s archery gold medal match
* Soccer women’s QF Australia vs GB
* Women’s water polo Australia vs Spain
* Athletics men’s 10,000m final
* Basketball Opals vs China

Day 7 was a bit of a mixed bag, but another gold, so you’d take that. A few heartbreaking teams results (tennis, rugby, basketball), but overall what a great first week for Australia. Day 8 feature a few more gold medal opportunities, and it’s another actioned packed day. When’s Matt Wearn taking his gold, today? I find the sailing schedule impossible to interpret!

Day 8 highlights include:

* Triathlon mixed relay
* Women’s 400m hurdle heats (McLaughlin fresh off her WR)
* Men’s 100m butterfly final featuring Aussie Matt Temple
* Women’s 200m backstroke final (Seebohm and McKeown) in what will be a very close race based on the times
* Women’s 800m freestyle final (Titmus vs Ledecky part 3, but expecting a different outcome this time)
* Men’s water polo Australia vs Spain
* Swimming mixed 4x1 medley relay final (what will our lineup look like?)
* Women’s hockey Australia vs Argentina
* Tennis men’s bronze medal match (go Djokovic) and women’s bonze medal match (go Rybakina)
* Mixed doubles bronze medal match (Barty/Peers vs Djokovic/Stojanovich)
* Men’s archery gold medal match
* Basketball Boomers vs Germany
* Athletics 4x400 mixed relay final (red hot favourites USA DQ)
* Women’s 100m final
* Men’s 100m heats

Bmx freestyle gets under way today. This will be the new sport that will makes waves imo. These ****ers go fast, high, pull off unreal tricks and they are far more consistent than the skaters/surfers. The top girls are also very good. Logan Martin is a massive chance for Gold for the Aussies, multiple X Games Winner, multiple World Champ winner including one a month or so ago in France. If he stays on his bike, he wins.

First Aussie woman in the Triathlon relay a bit underwhelming. I thought normally you have a strong discipline. The Brit and US women are better swimmers, cyclists, runners and in transition.

How can Australia be trash at triathlon? We have great weather and the best coaches in the world!

There was a time when we were good at triathlon..........world has well and truly passed us by...........

I thought I must have been imagining us being good given how shit we are now. So I wasn't? You'd think given how well we tend to do in the 3 disciplines individually we'd be a bit better.

Took Channel 7 so long to get onto the potential (and now as good as in the bank) sailing gold medal brewing. Do they actually have ANY passionate sports fans on their staff (like all of us on this forum!) who keep an eye on things and can provide updates to the producers/directors to act upon??? Seems not.........
