Not sure why we had to give up pick 41 in this deal.
4th in the B&F and contracted….fairly average deal IMO.

41 helps Brisbane more with their Academy kids, while 60 should get us over the line with SOSOS when paired with 59.

I'm sure Brisbane were offering a mid/late 20's pick for Bell and the late swap allowed us to push it up to 21. Good result for both clubs I reckon.

Both Clubs accommodated a trade to best suit Tom to get back home & the deal suited the Clubs.

Well done Carlton & Brisbane!

Is that right we can use 59 & 60 for Jack Silvagni?

Yep.

Theoretically, a club bids for him at pick 40. The draft index values pick 40 at 429 points, and we can match the bid with a 197 point discount - meaning we'd need 232 points.

Picks 59 and 60 are worth 158 and 146 respectively. So we burn pick 59, and pick 60 slides back based on the leftover points required.

Pick 40 = 429 points
-197 point discount = 232 points
Picks 59 and 60 = 304 points
Difference is 72 points = Pick 67 (69 points)
Picks 59 + 60 = SOSOS + Pick 67

Essentially, picks 59 and 60 cover us for any bid from pick 37 onwards, whereas pick 59 alone only covers a bid from pick 45 onwards.

The later the bid for Jack, the more "change" we get in the shuffle backwards.

I have to agree and laugh if not cry as well.
All we keep hearing from our club is that we have no choice - the player is out of contract or the player hasn't done anything over the past 12 months to deserve a top pick or the players attitude is wrong, etc, etc, - so we sel l for unders. As soon as we have a player with value we still throw in sweetners to get deals done. Except Docherty, I cannot remember of late any other deal where we have won, that's it. No wonder I get frustrated.
Let's just see how we finish up this year but so far Hendo and Bell deals aren't something to write about.

You mean that do you?

Not sure how you can say that we haven't won both those trades..............and if we didn't win............we certainly didn't lose.

Just wanted to say that your club and supporters have shown plenty of class with this trade. In the best interests of the player the trade needed to happen, and glad it did so in a reasonably fair and timely way.

When a player leaves a club on really good terms and the supporters of that club wish him well as he goes out the door...well...I just wish there was more of it.

Someone needs a hug...

Hendo got us a first rounder. Based on his awful form and attitude this year, that's more than many "experts" were expecting.
Yarran will get us a first rounder. Ditto above.
Bell got us a start of second rounder, two picks off the first round, with ours the only pick in between. The late pick swap benefits both parties.

We're reportedly in line for a handy crop of young GWS kids for very little outlay (an early second?), including former pick 3 and pick 10 talents.

Not sure it's as bad as you're making out...

I don't know what's it's like in the 'real world' but this board is generally quite generous with most players (Grigg excluded) and you'd have to be a real arse not to wish the best to Tom and to the club that dealt fairly, with us, for him.

Great guy and is a joy to watch from a track-watchers point of view. He'll bring plenty to Brisbane on and off the track.......a few frustrations with some delivery but the good will outweigh the bad.

Don't forget Sammy and Campo...

...............oh right. Forgot about them.

And Waite.

We've really only been good about Betts and Bell. Made out like bandits for Hampson so that didn't bother us. Jacobs we wished well I guess but got screwed on the trade so we were bitter. Kennedy we wished well because he didn't want to go.

Really depends on whether we made the decision or they did and whether they had given us great service and were leaving for legitimate reasons.

I didn't feel anything against Waite........as Waite is............Waite.

We could have kept him if we wanted to but we didn't want to......................Grigg though

We made a fair offer to Waite, but he was unrestricted so walked for success. After years of unrealised potential and injury, that was annoying.

Grigg ... yeah. Just did enough to become set in our 22 and left because he had to work to get there beforehand.

I think it comes down to clubs dealing fairly and in a reasonable manner. Some clubs get it, others don't (primarily the sh!t sash clubs, ****ing divas!)

My heart feels that we over paid the son of a gun many times over the years, then he walks out in our hour of need.

However this has to be seen as driven by Malthouse's dislike of him.

In the end, that was one of the most disappointing things of that period where favourites were played over others at the expense of the team, and left our list in such disarray.

Ahhhh, this is why clubs 'pass' on earlier picks and call players later??

Good trade for Bell. I dont care much for all this points nonsense with the later pick swaps, the reality is in a shallow draft we got pick 21 for him. We all rate Bells attitude and theres no denying his elite running and size, but for mine we were carrying too many players on our list who arent natural footballers and pick 21 represents a great deal for someone who probably doesnt have enough strings in his bow for my liking.

No disrespect to Bell hes been a great clubman and I respect the fact he wants to go look after his father, but I think we did really well in this deal.

Cheers. We are all sad to see him go but under the circumstances we all understand why he wanted to go home.
Tom played his heart out this year, unlike a couple of other of his team mates who checked out mid season.
It was a good trade for both clubs and we all wish Belly all the best and hope his dad gets better.

Sad to see Bell go. Thought he was one of the few good news stories out of the last couple of years. No doubt he tried his guts out as well. All the best to him at Brisbane.

Whilst I'm not sure he is ever going to be an A grader, he was definitely in our best handful of players this season and at 24 has plenty of good footy left in him. Would rather him stayed than the older Henderson. One thing I will say though is that if your going to trade out young players like Bell, now is the time to do it when your well in the midst of a rebuild.

We're in absolutely no danger of challenging for a flag anytime soon, so a trade like this is a bit easier to rationalise. Ordinarily though you wouldn't want to be trading out a 24yr old who just finished fourth in the B&F.
