Not claiming to know any inside information, just speculating and seeing what fellow supporters think.

Like every team, there is several areas of our list that could improve, but two areas are a priority. IMO.

- Ruckman - We can't expect Nank the Tank to do it all. There is also the scenario where he is injured. Having two designated ruckman is always risky and probably doesn't suit our game plan, hence Tom Boyd.

- Forward Tall - Jack is turning 30 this year, so having a replacement would be logical. In the meantime, having Jack and Boyd in our forward line would give it a lot more structure and may even improve the ability of our small forwards.

Having Boyd play a role where he plays somewhere in the forward line for 70 % of the time and 30 % as the main ruckman would be ideal. We know Tom Boyd can play some good games of footy, parts of 2016 being the obvious example, but has also at times looked out of his depth. I can't help thinking that perhaps a change in atmosphere, coaching, leadership group and possibly most important, support and mateship, would allow that 2016 form to be more constant. He is getting paid big money to play VFL footy for a club that is struggling. Something is obviously not working for him at the kennel.

Another aspect is he is only 22 ( turning 23 in August 2018). Still a few years away from hitting his peak.

Finally is the $$ aspect. Boyd is on a lot. Bulldogs would obviously want to wipe this away from their cap space if he is not even playing AFL for them. If we could organize a trade where the dogs pay 200,000 or so and Tom takes a 200,000 or so pay cut and we offer the rest ( 600,000 roughly) would this be an attractive proposition for us ?

P.S Being a 19 year old, naive and even arrogant ( speculation) coming into a club and being the most paid player was not a recipe for success and development. And I believe caused lots of tension and discontent between dog's players.

Tom Lynch is arguably the better player and probably always will be, but will cost a fortune and probably result in us losing a few players over the years.( the younger guys who will want some money in the coming years). Which can disrupt group dynamics. I think we can learn from Hawthorn and opt for a list strategy where we don't put all our eggs in Martin and Lynch.

Thoughts and comments ?

We have Soldo, Moore, Chol, Balta, Garthwaite, Miller, Broad and Coleman Jones who are all showing strong signs. Rather draft an exciting tall for the future. We also need a big midfielder and a long kick off half back or the wing
Yeah but we don't use our first picks on rucks, this year with the bonus pick we did, but then go back to Vickery for the last one and we are rubbish developing them.

Definitely a club that trades for rucks, OP not ridiculous but massive risk.
