Tom Boyd is a ruckman/forward from Norwood in the EFL. This year Tom played for Eastern Ranges and Vic Metro.

He only just turned 16 in August and already stands at 196cm and weighs 100kg - still growing.

Has fantastic athleticism for a big boy.

Jon Patton has been a mentor for this young lad, and apparently is already as quick.

Watch out for this young gun - future Top 10 prospect if injury doesn't strike.

The kid with the yellow boots.

Heard from a mate he has a shocking attitude towards footy, but that he's also certainly got the talent to be 'anything'

You would think he would easily get into the draft

He looks very promising, played a few games at the tail end of the season with the Eastern Ranges.

Obviously he's a "man-child" at the moment, and at his size and with his strength he is finding it fairly easy to gain an advantage over some opponents.

Whether his body holds up over time is always a concern with players who "grow" as quick as he what he has.

He can obviously take a mark and on limited viewing seems to kick the ball well.

I quite like what I've seen so far, but early days - he is 26 months away from being draftable.

Being a close mate of Tom's, playing in his junior footy team at Norwood as well as going to school with him i am here to squash that rumor of him having a poor attitude towards footy. His devotion towards the great game is actually quite remarkable, he lives and breaths football. He takes his 'Football Homework' provided to him by Eastern Ranges and Vic Metro to school, where he studies set plays given to him, but still focus' on school, being such a bright kid in getting A's and A+ without fail. Several Eastern Ranges players that play in our football team choose not to train during the season for Norwood and often take the easy way out at training and use Ranges as an excuse, not Tom though. He is the hardest working person in the whole bunch of 45 blokes in our age level.. but manages his workload that is set by the two representative clubs.

He's incredibly skilled for a big man, being able to kick with both feet at full pace and hit them with what looks like little to no effort. His hands are ridiculous, taking huge pack marks out of nowhere. Being the huge man he is, and still growing, its not only his power when hitting a contest, but his agility and pace at ground level that is quite remarkable for a person at his height and weight.. as shown by kicking 9 goals in the pooring rain for Eastern Rangers in dismal conditions.

I'm not trying to pump him up because I'm a mate of his, but the hype given to him is quite serious. Quite a similar player to John Patton who is tipped to be the No. 1 draft pick this year. You don't get the captaincy at all three levels of footy with having a poor attitude, he will be a star.

The guy on the right of the same photo (touching his face)
Jack Edwards is a gun footballer, who also plays with Tom at Eastern Ranges & Vic Metro.
He used to play in my nephew's team at Rowville football club, and was the Eastern football league's under 15's captain.
I'm sure in two years time he will be a name to watch out for in the draft.

Jack Edwards from Rowville football club was a kid my son would rave about, having played against him for about 4 years, a big guy who I once saw kick
the ball 55+ metres in the Under 13's !! , I'm told he doesn't play at Rowville F.C. anymore, not sure which club he plays for now.

The kid with the yellow boots.

Obviously a big kid with some talent.

The critical time will be over the next 2 years in regards to his attitude and his body.

At 196cm he is probably a bit small for a ruck man, but a great size for a KPP.

Depending on height and mobility this kid will certainly be on the radar of AFL clubs.

Look forward to future updates on the young man.

At 16 he still has a lot of height left in him. Will easily surpass 200cm.

Has been very impressive in Eastern's first two games. Seems to have dropped a few kilos, and perhaps grown a little bit more.

Very advanced for a bottom aged kid, might lack a little in the speed and agility department but there's a fair bit to like in his game.

This kid is dominating the Tac cup as a 16 year old. Playing at full forward, he is currently leading the comp in goals despite constantly being double teamed and playing for the Eastern Ranges who have yet to win a game so far.

Standing at 198cm and still growing, he has great athleticism, fantastic hands and very good skills for a big man. Also has good leadership qualities as shown by him being made captain of Vic Metro U16s last year. From what I've heard he is also a true professional on and off the field.

He has been selected to play for Vic Metro in this year's U18 national championships where he skills will be on full display. I will be taking a keen interest in Vic Metro's games as he is a great player to watch and it will be good to see him take on the best players in the land.

I'm sure every AFL team would be looking at him at the moment and at this stage looks likely to be a top 5 pick in 2013 and could very well go number 1.

I thought this would be a good place to keep updated with his progress throughout the year and any other general discussion regarding him.

Metro are going to be hard to stop this year.

They have a plethora of quality top age kids, Boyd and McDonald are the absolute cream of the 2013 crop, posibly the #1 and #2 player in that crop atm, who will also be lining up for metro in the champs this year.

Boyd will dominate the champs with good delivery imo.

Yeah I agree, Boyd is still dominating with average delivery at the moment so it will be interesting to see how he goes playing along side the best in the state.

Probably have the best midfield.

Reckon WA will have the strongest forward line. Good mix with 197cm Shaw at FF, pack crashing Hogan (194cm, 97kg) at CHF and Paparone (197cm) running through there also. Chuck in Howson for the odd game also (197cm). Yarran and Jack Martin running through there also.

Boyd is the best Kpf in the country, Joe Danniher is a pretty handy deputy, just as good as the WA pairing imo

I don't know much about WA, but I reckon the top echelon of SA's midfield might shade VMs, especially with Grundy giving them supply.

VM will have good midfield depth, and their kpp at both ends look monstrous. Not sure about the rucks - will they go the Daniher/McBean pairing (both of who are more fwd/rucks than ruck/fwds) swapping fwd in addition to Boyd, or field a conventional ruckman as well and risk going in top-heavy?

VC will have an extraordinary top-end midfield with Wines, Whitfield, Stringer, not as sure about the depth though.

For those interested, Boyd is still leading the Tac cup in goals kicking 26 from 8 games which is 7 ahead of the next highest. He is currently averaging 10 disposals and 6 marks a game.

He has also played 2 games for Vic Metro U18s, the first being against Vic Country in which he dominated a very good defender in Tanner Smith and the second against NT where he put in another solid performance.

In Eastern Ranges first win of the season this week he kicked 4.1 and took 9 marks, 5 of which were contested. This is the second time this season he has kicked 4 goals and he has kicked bags of 5 and 6 on two other occasions. There has only been one game this year when he hasn't kicked multiple goals. This is also the third time he has taken 5 contested marks this season and has had 2 other games where he has taken 4.

I suggest you keep a close eye on him for the rest of the season and try and get down to as many Eastern Ranges and Vic Metro games as possible. At this stage, is certainly living up to the hype and looks to be a top draft pick for next year.

he is a bigger beast, goes the ball and doesnt stage nothing like lloyd !

If he has half the career Lloyd had the club that gets him will be doing carthwheels. If he's bigger does he rely more on contested marking ala Hawkins, rather than leads?

Is this kid better than Daniher NOW?

Can take contested marks and go out on the lead, happy to get his marks either way. Exceptional hands, just exceptional. Really long and accurate shot on goal. Weaknesses (and these are from the perspective of him being a very very very good player indeed, i'm not trying to belittle the kid) would possibly be pace off the mark (I just don't think he's got explosive burst speed at this time), and his work with the ball on the ground. Patton was better with the ground ball last year, though to be fair to Boyd, his underage year is hugely more impressive than Patton's was.

From what little I've seen of Daniher, he is far more mobile and athletic than Boyd is, though I haven't seen enough of him to judge the rest of his game.
