Exactly. He (Wilkes) seems a little but shy to throw his weight around. But I think he is definitely big enough to intimidate a few players and help out lee and Stanley, just needs a bit of mongrel.
I think the main reason for that was he didn't want to get in roo and kosi's way a bit. But that should change as he'll be in his 2nd year

Everyone seems to want three talls in the forward line. So thats Roo Stanley (has to play if fit) so that leaves Kosi/Wilkes/Lee for the third spot. Neither Wilkes or Kosi can play defence so with Lee @195 and 94KG whats the chances he starts in CHB early on next year.

I reckon Wilkes will find himself given first dibs: it's going to be Roo, Stanley and Wilkes. Lee will have to earn his spot, and won't get it, I suspect, until at least 10 games in NO MATTER WHAT. If his problem is "entitlement syndrome", where players think it'll all just happen for them because they're so talented or whatever, then it being something he has to stretch for, will make all the difference. He'll start of being resentful, then eventually either 1, stay that way, or 2, pull his finger out and do the extra yards. We're betting our pick 12 that he'll choose option 2.

He's a very hard worker on the field, however off-field he was terribly lazy, only this year he pulled his finger out when his Coach beat him in a 3km time trial by about 30 seconds and blasted him for it. Kind of a Last one to turn up one of the first to leave, Even after being booted out of the crows for a laconic style to training he just floated along thinking he had enough talent to make it so it would happen

Is a very talented Tall, not the strongest player however reads the play very well and judges the ball perfectly, a Pure forward, Very Wiry and will take about 1-2 seasons to get into the swing of it, however he's a good-un, Especially if he's ready to put the work in
Good analysis. I would say, as a Claremont supporter, my main concern with him would be whether or not he can kick many goals when the ball isn't coming in to his forward line with relative ease as often as it does at Claremont. Claremont has such a dominate team, that it makes many lesser full forwards look good. This suited the way Lee plays as he doesn't need to fight for as many of his chances to still come away with a bag.

It does seem he has seen the light though, so hopefully he turns out to be a player. Always good to see another Claremont boy play in the big leagues.

If Lee is in fact an effective player in defense, his versatility might give him a foot in the door.
If he's about as good in the forward line as Kosi* or Wilkes, you'd select him because he can go back in emergencies ( ie a defender is injured or we are simply getting a flogging ).

* ideally both Wilkes and Lee will develop into a forward that is more affective than Kosi has recently been.

Why does everybody assume he will take Kosis spot? I know he is undoubtedly better..but I get the feeling Kosi hwont be dropped for an untried youngster straight away.
Yes hes getting old and everybody is calling for his head, but if Kosi, Lee and Roo can work as a big 3, i believe kosi can significantly lift his output this season. Dont write the man off yet, You can say what you want about him but he has been good for the club for many years.

Wilkes > Kosi

why was wilkes in and out of the team and kosi a regular then?
Dude.

Im serious, he can pinch hit ruck and kick more goals. Mark my words he will get games over wilkes. Yes hes slow and doesnt do anything else but we dont need him to, not like wilkes does it much better anyway

Wilkes is faster than a glacier and gives second efforts, Kosi isn't and doesn't
And Kosi averaged less goals

Picking Kosi ahead of Wilkes, if things start off as they ended up this year, would be one almighty step backwards. There is a reason Kosi was left out of the final two games while Wilkes played, despite Roo missing those games and I don't think it was to rest him up for the finals.

By the end of the year Wilkes was doing almost everything better than Justin, even rucking, where he was becoming more competitive. Beau was on the way up (how far he has to go up I hope we find out), while Kosi was on the very steep slope down, unfortunately.

Unless Kosi had some hidden mystery illness, or injury, then he hit the wall in a massive way in the 2nd half of the year and leaving him in the side for so long (at the expense of Wilkes, who, when he came in, showed that he could do basically all Kosi could and much more) could very easily have cost us a spot in the finals.

Unless Kosi turns things around in a massive, massive way, on the way he ended this year, then it would be a travesty if he is picked ahead of the likes of Wilkes (if he is performing like he was for most of this year, or better) or Lee, if he is up and about.

There is just no good reason to pick him, all things being equal. I see him bringing up the rear, behind Riewoldt, Stanley, Wilkes and possibly Lee. It might even then be touch and go between he and Hickey, if we land him.

Because you've forgotten about Stanley.
Watters has been obviously using Stanley's pace in the game plan, and Stanley can do the support ruck thing.
Kosi is a goal kicking machine, meaning he will stand there and if you somehow get te ball to him ( maybe six times a game ) he will kick a goal half the time.

I can't see Lee playing down back, the guy kicked 70-24 in a year any one with that sort of record is a a pure forward and a 75% goal rate .He obviously has that X factor about his marking and any forward that can kick that accurate will always play forward.

Since he has been played as a defender as recently as last year, he is obviously NOT a pure forward.
Jarryd Roughead is a good forward, but that doesn't mean he can't do anything else.
I don't know how good Lee's work in defense is, but as I said it can be very useful during a game, if you lose a key defender, to be able to move one of your forwards back.
Wilkes can go back at the expense of being terrible.
Kosi can't , Riewoldt probably not , Stanley - wouldn't think so.

You weren't watching Wilkes in last part of season? Was playing in ruck and kicked more goals then Kosi. Was also selected ahead of Kosi in run home.

What's your thoughts on the likelihood of him getting games as a forward in 2013 with Riewoldt, Stanley, Wilkes, Koschitzke, Milera, Saad, Schneider, Milne, Saad and Siposs to slot in there somewhere).

Just seems like a viable option (to play him back initially - as they tried to do with Wilkes), as opposed to him playing VFL and waiting for injuries - although possibly you are of the view he'll be able to leapfrog a number of the guys I've mentioned.

Ideally he'd be competing with Stanley and Wilkes

He will play right from the start his to good a talent not too,you don't give up pick 12 for a ressie player. The forward line up will include Stanley,Rooey and Lee i think the jury is out on Wilkes and Kossi is surplace.

Is it really the same as pick 12 (when you get 24 and 43 in return)?

That would be like saying we used pick 20 on Saad & Milera - when we got Ross as well.

I'd have thought that they are re-building the list for future years, rather than only being focused on improving the 2013 best 22.

Why is the jury out on Wilkes but not on Lee?
What has Lee done that Wilkes has not done equally well. ( Except play in defense - only assuming he wasnt as bad as Wilkes
Lee has kicked more goals in a state level season than Wilkes, but so has Nick Sautner ( Sandy VFL legend ).
Wilkes has had an impact at AFL level.
Lee has not.
I hope he will play right from the start after kicking bag's of goals in the NAB cup, but thats just my optimism, not a statement of fact.
