TOM LONERGAN'S future at Geelong appears to be simply a matter of dollars, with his manager unaware of any talk linking the Cats forward to any other AFL club.

Anthony McConville, the man who represents the Geelong goalkicker, said Lonergan was happy to stay at Skilled Stadium, but just how much the 24-year-old would earn from the two-year deal on offer from the Cats remains a sticking point between the two parties.

"At this stage the club has put a two-year deal to Tom and I've met with Neil Balme to begin negotiations," McConville said on Thursday.

"I'm now awaiting Neil to get back to me with a revised offer. That's where we've left it."

A key player in Lonergan's future might be current teammate Brent Prismall – and in fact any other Cat who opts to discard the blue and white hoops before Friday's 2pm trade deadline.

Should Prismall get his wish and find a new home and the greater opportunities that will accompany it, the Cats' salary cap pressures will slightly ease, freeing up some cash that might be used in the bargaining process of Lonergan's contract.

"They've got salary cap problems and obviously a lot will depend on what happens with Brent Prismall and a number of other players and I suppose what they probably have got left in the bank [and on] their balance sheet," McConville said.

"I suppose we'll sit back and we'll wait for that to play out and hopefully we can come to a resolution.

"At the end of the day I've just got to wait for Neil to get back to me and we'll just go from there.

"He's happy to stay at Geelong, but you know at the end of the day it comes down to what's on the table and we need to look at that."

Asked whether Lonergan had been discussed with other clubs this week, McConville replied: "Not with me."

"My understanding is it hasn't but you'd probably best ask Neil Balme that," he said.

"Obviously the club wants to keep him; they've put forward a two-year deal."

Geelong has been linked to Essendon's Andrew Lovett this week, but Balme has said the club was reluctant to trade for players because of restrictions in its TPP (Total Player Payments)....

Re: Tom Lonergam

if we we're to offer him more money then Geelong would we take him? Give schulze to port for pick 2? then give The cats pick 2

pick 2 or 22. if you mean pick 2.
1. they dont have it.
2. port would not except schulz for that pick.
3. if we got pick 2 we would keep it.
4. west coast have pick 2

Re: Tom Lonergam

In my eyes, Lonergon is a handy forward but needs a pass lace out. He is agood kick, and quick on the lead but drops a fair few marks. He looks better than what he is in our team in my realistic opinion.

Make a play for him if you wish, but really I would only expect 35 =oals a year from him from a midfield that is not considered up to Geelongs standards. In saying that, I would love to keep him as Mooney is coming to an end while young Hawkins.. well who knows what he will do next year.

Don't rate lonergan at all. As expected, he is provided lots of oppurtunities in the cats team and therefore looks to be a talented key forward but IMO he doesn't get the ball himself
He is in the Geelong side to maintain their structure

i tend to agree. the only way we might benefit from this is if the cats are desperate to offload a fringe player who suits our needs at a firesale price so they can fit lonergan into the TPP.

LOL:D:D

I wouldn't mind lonergan but i doubt we'll get him. Plus how much would the cats want for him?? To much, i think.

Ugh, no way, if it wasn't for the kidney coming out nobody would think he is any good and I doubt if he would even be playing for Geelong.

Looks like he is cocky too asking for heaps of money when he is lucky to be playing in a side as good as Geelong.

Much rather Schulz or our second rounder to stay.

Mark my words, once Hawkins comes good, we will be saying "Who's Lonergan?"

If Tucker's understanding is correct we can get him to Punt Rd for 5K.

$5000 thats the price of kidneys these days

We just offer him a kidney off the black market. Done. And if we can't get one, then Kane Johnson could be waking up in a bath full of ice any day......
