Quality debut for the club, and against a quality opposition midfield as well. He and Taylor worked really well in tandem as well. Will continue to improve with more exposure to this team.

Slightly different roll with us as in we don’t need Mitchell to get huge numbers, but as team role he will be way more effective for us as distributor to the other mids

Very low profile personality too, quietly spoken and unemotional and even tempered on field. In a team full of big personalities, this is a pleasant change.

I am a huge Mitchell fan and was gutted to see him go - but its a great move for both Tom and the Pies (not so sure about my Hawks).
His character is first rate - and he'll do exactly what McRae asks him to do. No ego. If he was ever going to sook about his role, it would have happened last year under Sam, but he remained the consummate professional (and finished 5th in the B and F, and probably would have won it again if his midfield time had been at normal levels).

He is an old-fashioned head down / bum up player, which is why a fair number of supporters, commentators and douche-bag former coaches don't rate him as highly as they should. FFS, Diesel Williams would be getting slagged off if he played these days. Madness. Mids who can win the ball out to the classy outside players remain as valuable in the game as ever, as we saw on Friday night. A credit to the Pies and McRae that Mitchell always had an outside option (often multiple), each time he took possession - something my Hawks desperately need to learn from.

Wouldn't normally barrack for the Pies, but I wouldn't be upset if T Mitchell got to salute at the end of 23'

Tom Mitchell (Collingwood)

“Tom Mitchell didn’t get a coaches vote in his game against Geelong on the weekend and we had him as the second highest rated player on the ground,” Hoyne told SEN’s Sportsday.

“Despite only finishing with 21 disposals, it was all high impact, which I don’t think we’ve said about Tom Mitchell for quite a while.

“He had 14 contested possessions, 10 clearances and two goals. That was the ninth highest rated game of his career. He’s played a lot of footy. His eight highest rated games above that one, he had 32 disposals or more in all of them.

Craig McRae told us we would see a different Tom Mitchell. One game in and we’ve already seen a different Tom Mitchell.”

Yep fly is smart enough to use him at the coal face shovelling the ball out and getting us moving - that's his skillset and mantra and fck knows why they changed his role at the Hawks recently.

Who is 'Hoyne'? Is he a household name? Are we all meant to know him?

I may have heard this from a Hawks supporter here. Tom and Sam Mitchell disliked each other.
Sam comes across as arrogant to me. Tom seems quite the opposite
