The big fella looks a bit flat in the ressies at the moment.
I reckon the plan is to flog him on the track and in the weights room for a month. Hence his current form.
Then they will rest him up for a few weeks like an Olympic sprinter that will physically peak for a 2 week period.
They will name him as an emergency for our 2nd final regardless of whether it is a prelim or a semi.
Then they will quietly slot him into the 22 and he will become our x-factor for the final thrust to premiership glory.

The bottomline is the kids best is already good enough to make an impact but he is too immature to do it consistently.
On the otherside of the coin Thompson will keep a trick or 2 up his sleeve for crunch time...you can bet on it.

Other teams will have been studying us for months come crunch time. We will have to have the courage to do something different if we are to go all the way. Hawkins will become the perfect x-factor to throw a cat amongst the Eagles (or whoever) plans.

Finally Thompson toyed with a similar idea when Nablett burst onto the scene late in 2005 but it didn't quite come off as he pulled out of the Sydney game.

My other tip is I am not convinced we have seen the last of Charlie G for 2007.

Time will tell...........

You can stick a fork in Hawkins. He's done!

All about getting his body in shape for the coming preseason. He can't come in to preseason like a tub off lard again.

It can't hurt to punish him on the track for a few weeks. He's gotta be in tip top shape if he's gonna be our wild card or a replacement for an injured Moondog or Nablett.

Hawkins, Selwood and Blake in 2008. It's a gonna be something special my friends.

Hopefully he doesn't play another game this season and is still eligible for the rising star next year! Back to back rising stars :)

Nablett could also do with a good summer or two on the weights to beef up his upper body. Have a look at the shoulders of the better KP forwards in the comp and compare their bodies with Nablett. I know he is just a kid, but if he is going to compete with the best KP backs in the comp, in body and marking contests, he will need to grow some muscles. A powerfully built Nablett at CHF and a strong and fit Hawkins would not only be good targets themselves but would provide plenty of opportunities for smaller forwards as well. The future looks good.

We won't see him again until next year. Needs a massive pre-season and that may as well start now. No harm in doing some extra work in the next month or so. Hopefully he can get up some fitness and play a big part in the vfl finals.
