Well known that he wouldnt nominate, needs another year to develop, he is very small.

In whats shaping up as a pretty strong draft next year, would Carlton be willing to part with a 3rd round pick for him?

I doubt it considering we would actually need to pay a 2nd rounder to get him if we pick up Sam Sheldon as Carlton are expected to.

What's young Sam like as a footballer? I haven't heard much about him

the club can get around that by trading a player for a 2nd round pick and having 2x round 2 picks- needs to be worth it to go down that path.

from the sounds of it he may only be worth a rookie spot- due to his development, although look at faren ray, there was nothing of him and he is starting to fill out.

We should rookie the kid. From what i have heard he is well worth the risk.

IIRC he is a bottom aged player which means he cant get rookie listed this year.

Personally I think he has made the right decision if this is true. He needs another year in the TAC.

If he was drafted this year I feel he would go backwards as he isn't ready for it yet.

He should be able to work more on the basics of the game in the TAC whilst maintianing his confidence.

I agree with you since I saw him at training and he's a stick. But if he comes on next year and is worth drafting under the father-son rule.Is he worth a second round pick in next year's superdraft? Since we may be drafting Sam Sheldon as well and would have to use early picks on both.

Could he still play under 18s if he was drafted this year?

If drafted this year he would become ineligible for the TAC Cup. He could however play school football, like Raso did this year. From what I here, he is a tough little guy, doesn't mind getting in and under, but just doesn't have the body for AFL.

A comparison body wise would be Kade Simpson when he first got drafted. Tomi is probably a fraction skinnier! The kid can find the footy though, so he's worth a look at.

A Second Round pick next year might be a stretch at present. Depends on his form next season I suppose.

The other possible outcome is that Sam Sheldon might not nominate for next years draft, meaning we could take Tomi next year and get Sam the following year.

If he's eligible and good enough to be picked up next year he'd mad to not nominate for the draft. One year in the AFL system would make him an infinitelty better player than if he played another year in the U18s.

If Carlton are last next year do the rules stop Tomi or Sheldon from nominating for the PSD not the Nov. draft and being drafted? I'd imagine the powers that be would have every loophole covered.

I think they would have to nominate for normal draft, and could only nominate for the pre-season draft if they were overlooked in the normal draft.

Sheldon attends Haileybury College and from what I believe he'd be a bottom age player next year, so it wouldn't surprise me if he waited another year to nominate, whilst he finishes year 12.

I'm sure the club has been in constant contact with both Tomi & Sam and they have an idea of what their intentions are for next season.

Tomi's pretty much got his heart set on Carlton, if indeed an AFL career beckons. I wouldn't be too concerned about getting screwed in the draft ala Krakouer and Kangaroos.

I have heard some good things about Tommi and his pre season at Sandringham. The words growth spurt over the off season, looking fit and in 3weeks time they will do the testing and a 15 beep test would not surprise were used.

Very promising. :thumbsu:

Will let everyone know when I hear anything more.

I'd rather have one of the players you've profiled, unless you can write up a profile on Tommi and convince us of his potential.

I really hope your right Mojo. A Johnston on our list in 2007 ..... to go with a Sheldon & Blackwell :D ...... Gee where's Ashy, Buckley and Marcou.

Maybe a Cattagio then.:thumbsu:

Very good news indeed.............lets hope he also puts on some weight to go along with this growth spurt!

Someone mentioned on a Sandringham preview thread on one of the main boards that Tomi is just overcoming OP...........any truth to that?

Great news. His dad was a late developer as well wasn't he? Will be interesting to see how we handle it if both Sheldon and Johnston nominate.

Maybe but I have not heard that. Perhaps he has overtrained.

The only thing that matters at this stage is that Tommi of 2005 and 174cms and 60kgs has put on 3 or 4 cms (hopefully) and 5 plus kgs (hopefully) and gives himself a chance of being good enough for a father/son pick at the end of the year if he continues to grow and put on weight.

Thats all we can ask for at this stage. We can evaluate his football when the season gets going. But if he is not quite a bit taller and heavier at the end of the year he will not be taken by us father/son.

I dont know personally if he has. Just been told by someone who is in a position to know. They are guessing also as no tests have been done yet and will be done in 3 weeks. I will report them here then.

I dont know anybody at Oakleigh to ask about Sammy Sheldon so no point in asking me about him at this stage.

u dont want sam sheldon on your list blues fans he is not that good at all. He played in the 2's at Haileybury College all last year and will play in the 2's as a year 12 this year. He is an ok player but no where near afl standards

Your opinion is noted...

I guess we'll just wait and see.
