The past few years Modra has been playing in the country for Encounter Bay in the Great Southern League. A couple years ago he kicked 100 goals for Encounter Bay. Last year he played a few games for Encounter Bay but he is also working for the Adelaide Crows in some capacity.

He was the most exiting player i have ever seen play afl and i doubt it whether there will be another player like Modra in my life time. It was a shame the crows traded him to Fremantle in 1999. We havent had a forward even come close to the talents of Modra since.

had an interesting conversation with a Carlton mate of mine a couple of years back. His response was that yeah modra was a decent player, but...

when I told him about his 1993, he refused to accept that Modra kicked 129 goals - about 25 goals more than any carlton player ever has.

blokes reasoning was that anyone who had such an amazing achievement would have to had been more recognised interstate - something like that, was too great to ignored. so it can't have happened.

says an awful lot really

Without doubt our best pure full forward and most exciting player in a Crow guernsey, but he was a shooting star that had waned by 97. I doubt we would have won the 2 flags with him instead of Jarman.

It was a shame to trade him but probably the right decision for both parties, although we didn't get that much for him. I think we used the 2nd or 3rd roun draft pick to get Stenglein from memory, so indirectly Scott Thompson is there because of Modra.

Whats he doing these days??? I'm a Victorian, but that bloke was a champion
Mods was the most exciting player I have seen in the AFL,saw most of his games at what I still call football Park.
Feel like it was a real tragedy when he was traded,I have seen him play for Encounter Bay when he was still playing and was still excited by him when he took a hanger.
He has a farm south of Victor Harbor.

Coleman medalist in 97, knee reconstruction after pre lim.

98 screwed mostly, until the little issue at the end when melbourne thumped us, modra was put on a half back flank and didnt commit.

I saw him one day kick 10 goals against Langhorne Creek in a final, it went to extra time and naturally he kicked the sealer.

He kicked one goal is particular which really stood out, picked up the loose ball from about 50 snapped on the run from the boundary, awesome goal.

I still remember what a thrill it was to see him take that mark of the year against North Melbourne many years ago. I was sitting not far away and I've got to say it was without doubt the most amazing sight.

The TV replays of that mark really don't do it justice. An absolute champion. It was as shame to see him leave the club the way he did.

Are you sure it was the Demons?

I had it in the back of my memory it was against Geelong at the Cattery?

As for Keith, I used to live there for a few years, it's about 45 km west of Bordertown

It's on the Dukes Hwy, go through Murray Bridge, Tailem Bend, Coonalpyn, Tintinara then Keith, plus a heap of one building, 2 house settlements like Ki Ki, Yumali, etc.

Alf Densley who was a Glenelg reserves player, until Grave Danger snotted him, lives there. Keith wear the black & white Magpie colours, Bordertown are the Roosters, Mundulla are the Tigers, ahh the memories

I just looked it up, the Keith Footy Club is now part of the Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara Football League, along with Bordertown, Mundulla etc

Have a look here, http://countryfooty.com.au/KNTFL.htm

Round one of finals 1998 we got thumped by Melbourne. Modra was out until Round 16, and returned against Carlton on a Friday night at Football Park.

Round 20 we murdered Geelong at Kardinia, Modra kicked about 38 goals for the day and was taking hangers left, right and centre.

98 season spelled the end for Mods cos he was coming off his knee reconstruction...

and Blightey seemed to have a wierd policy of demanding every player be capable of playing multiple roles around the ground. I seem to recall Mods on a wing a few times. He wasn't really up to scratch there.

Incredible at leading, marking and kicking though. One of the best in history probably.

Actually Cooper the last straw was that Melbourne final where Mods didn't give a toss at all for the whole game and his teammates were not impressed with his attitude let alone the coaching staff.

Our current coach also has the same philosophy and I have no problem with it.

Agree that the guy was a freak and loved watching him play.

why am I not suprised?

Kicked goals and marked a ball:rolleyes: The AFC won two Premierships without him, he was not a player who was good with second efforts, and in general as a person isnt the greatest bloke going around........in saying that I mean his physical abuse towards women.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Is it just me or are you turning into Big Footy version of Germaine Greer?
