Tony shaw said on AFL teams that he called rocket eade last week because (in his words) "i called to see if he'd be interested in the collingwood player mentoring job if Mick doesn't take it, because it looks as though Mick isn't going to do it now".

So, he's saying that he is pretty much sure that Mick won't be there next year.

I think Tony is a spud.... but for him to call Rocket... seems interesting

Coming from Tony Shaw??? pppfffttt...he doesn't represent Collingwood F.C in any capacity...anyone can hedge their bets about Mick staying or going.

And we approached Eade last time he was available so no big news there.

Oh wait...Tony Shaw has Eades phone number..there's the story...he can make a phone call

lol. Yeah the whole problem with this proposition is who gives a flying feck what Tony Shaw wants to know? It's not as if it's the club wanting to know so you can only assume it's about Tony trying to further his media career by fabricating a scoop. Well done Tony, another epic fail!

Since when does Tony represent Collingwood and make calls to check for people's availabilities?

My thoughts as well. If true Eddie needs to give him a call up and remind him of his place. Way overstepping the line.

We've definitely sounded out Eade for the role. No need to attack Shaw about it.
Nobody's attacking Shaw about that but if he's going around making comments purporting to have some official role with the Collingwood Football Club then he deserves a bake. Shaw has been nothing but a critic for Collingwood for quite a while now and I don't think I'd be too lonely in telling him to shut the feck up!

Oh I've got no doubts we've got Eade in mind if Mick is leaving (and I think he is). Just reckon Tony is a little sly; happy to stick it to us when we're not doing so well, happy to pretend he's a part of the club when we are.

Great player though :thumbsu:

Tony needs to stop embarrassing himself, the bloke is a deadset moron, needs to go away, far far away.

I don't think he was. I didn't see the show, but I imagine he sounded out Eade for a scoop for his job as a media commentator, not because of his past ties with Collingwood.

Edit: I'm just watching the show now and the quote in the OP misrepresents what he said a bit. I got the impression he is on friendly enough terms with Rocket and just called to see if there was anything going down. He certainly wasn't implying that he was doing it on Collingwod's behalf.

He went on to say Eade had already gone for this job a few years back (with Parkin chiming in to say he actually had it, but for whatever reason it didn't go ahead).

In the same show Pickers said in the "Give Me Something" segment, that MM is expected to take up a lucrative media role next season. No surprise I guess, and doesn't necessarily preclude MM from the DOC role.

Just a rumour, but apparently Rodney Eade is not the sole person Collingwood may have sounded out about replacing Mick in the DOC role if Mick does indeed take 12 months off.

The other ex coach is Paul Roos.:)

I would be extremely happy to take Roo's if MM was to leave. Either him or Matthews are the only two

If Malthouse does leave, either bloke would be brilliant in my opinion. To be honest, I think I'd prefer Eade or Roos over Malthouse and I reckon Buckley would too.

Don't see what the fuss is all about. I have no issue with Tony calling Rocket for a chat as long as he isn't doing it through some misbegotten sense of involvement with the club, which by the sounds of things he didn't do.

Also Rodney Eade when questioned by the Ox and Francis Leach on Thursday last week categorically denied having been spoken to by Collingwood.

Things may have changed in the past week, however I doubt they have considering we are in the middle of a finals campaign. One would assume that all energies for the time being would be put toward winning the 2011 premiership.

Agreed!

Nathan Buckley is senior coach in 2012, so that being the case, I don't think Mick should be at the club in any capacity after this season. He is too petulant and it would just cause friction.

Give me a Leigh Matthews or Paul Roos ANY day, that would be fantastic.

His place is as one of only 4 living Collingwood premiership captains. I suspect his role in the media is why he called Eade rather than any assumed place at Collingwood.

I'm all for him having a job in the media but he should've remained neutral with all things Collingwood, the only time he ever gets a story published is when he's bagging us, he's sold us out on many, many occassions, and, he is without doubt the worst/dumbest football comments man i have ever seen, cringe worthy.

I'd rather Terry Wallace to be honest.

Incredibly underrated football person.

The whole position is a load of shit IMO, Bucks will surround himself with the finest possible assistants, WTF is a director of coaching going to do?, this is just an out for Edd IMO, as in if Micks walks Edd won't look like such douche.
