I'm in a bit of a situation and I'm sure a few others are in the same boat.

That is, we have rookies sitting on our bench who have very minimal chance of playing another game.

I know one of the golden rules is not to sideways trade but with the amount of injuries occurring do people think it's worth it?

I'm talking about guys like Suckling, Dick, W.Thompson, Thorp etc. Would it be worth upgrading to players who are likely to string a number of games together like Cockie/Broughton/De Boer/Sidebottom/Davenport?

Replacing Suckling, Dick with Cockie, Sidebottom would be the ultimate sideways trades in my book.

I dont think there is really any right or wrong answer to that one. All depends on how many trades you have left, how many premium upgrades you need to do, and how many rookies you have that are underperforming or not even getting a game

I would do it only as a last resort.
Do you have zeros on the field?
How many cash cow positions are already working well?

Sometimes golden rules are made to be broken...

Yeah, I absolutely agree. But if you do a sideways trade such as this one you need to be careful about who you choose.

Cockie: didn't look too impressive in his first 2 games. Injury concern picked up during the game on the weekend. Swift knocking on the door.

Broughton: Great first game. Cheap. Should get a few games. Might even be picked this week.

De Boer: Very quiet first game.

Sidebottom: The entire Collingwood forward line is injured. They will return soon and someone will have to make way.

Davenport: Warming the spot for S Burgoyne/Hartlett to return. Injury to Kornes and Salopek may only be one week off.

If you will make such a sideways trade then you have to be really confident that it will net you a player likely to string together 6+ games. Out of this lot the only one I would be relatively confident(ish) in is Broughton.

The 94K talent coming through this year is pretty unreliable. All the injuries make it even more painful this year.

Now bloody Higgins has OP.........:(.

I'll be playing with one or possibly 2 zeros this week. I've got 14 trades left and just feel that it's pointless to have Suckling, Thorp and W.Thompson on my bench knowing they won't play another game this season. I've also got Anthony but he's likely to play in the 2nd half of the season.

Yeah, it made sense to sideways trade cheap players that weren't playing to the likes of Rich, Otten, Ziebell etc before the price change. Now it will be tricky.

Cheers for the advice guys.

Yeah it's gonna be a tough decision. I didn't get to see the Collingwood game to see how Sidebottom went. On stats alone he looks solid but you're right in that he could be just warming the spot for the bigger names to get back.

Yeah, i was looking at Petrenko > Grimes. Only makes me 20k, but fills the Rance, Hurley hole. Grimes started with a 90 odd last week and looks likely to get a run for the rest of the year. (I know blokes got burnt by Cheney after one game too but...)
The only problem with Grimes, Yarran, Hurley are they're a bit dearer but look more likely to get extented runs.. aren't they?

Would you be keeping Grimes in for the rest of the year? Personally, I wouldn't bring him in if you were only going to upgrade him later on.

i guess it all depends whether you would rather be Suckling Dick or have a Cockie in your Sidebottom.

Neither sound like good options to me ;)

Yeah, but if he covers a 0 for a couple of weeks and in the process rises in price say $150k surely thats better than having Petrenko doing jack sh*t on the pine. At least he looks like the Dees will play him all year, at least more chance than the many other rookie duds out there.

Yeah....I am definitely jumping on Grimes. Need to decide whether to boot Rance or Petrenko. Petrenko likely to be dropped and Rance out for only 2 to 3 weeks.

Grimes will play every game for the Dees barring injury. Looks like a ball magnet. Second year player so mature body. His back injury is the only worry.

Cheney had one good game.....the others were pretty average. He had absolutely no defensive side to his game and I remember the Dees coach mumbling something about sending him back to the reserves to work on that.

If Petrenko is only to be a bench player does it matter if he sucks for the few times that you might need to use him.

Have I missed something here? Is Thompson injured or has Williams been quoted saying he won't play him?
